On Sunday, Brian Vickers will make his first Indy start since finishing 15th in the 2011 Brickyard 400.

He also missed the 2010 edition of this race, but finished fifth in 2009. Those two top-15 finishes are countered somewhat by his 2014 flat track record with only one top-15 finish in five starts. He finished 19th at Pocono, which is the track most comparable to Indy. Fantasy owners should expect another result in that same general range.

Danica Patrick hopes that her second Brickyard 400 start goes better than her first. She qualified 33rd in this race last year, lost two laps, and finished 30th.

Increased competition in this marquee race limits her usefulness to fantasy players. She should be watched for signs of strength and if they are present owners might consider starting her at Pocono or New Hampshire later in the year.

Rain will delay or cancel final practice on Saturday. If rain continues throughout the day and qualification is canceled, Juan Pablo Montoya, Trevor Bayne, and Matt Crafton would be the drivers who fail to make the show.

Bobby Labonte in a third Tommy Baldwin Racing car would make the show based on owner points, which would elevate him to the most favored dark horse status.

Justin Allison finishes 13th in Friday night's ARCA Racing Series race at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Indiana.

He started the No. 88 HaVaCoSales.com Ford 5th on the grid for the SCOTT Get Geared Up 200 presented by Federated Car Care.

Justin Allgaier showed rapid improvement in the unrestricted oval races from June’s FedEx 400 at Dover through the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona. In five races he finished with a best of 16th at Michigan and a worst of only 27th at Pocono.

A late-race accident derailed his New Hampshire Motor Speedway effort and sent him home 37th, but he was running respectably before that. Another solid finish in the 20s in one of NASCAR’s biggest races of the year will go a long way to restoring his confidence before the taxing 17-race grind to the end of the season.

Thomas Praytor finishes 16th in Friday night's ARCA Racing Series race at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Indiana.

He started the No. 2 DK LOK Ford 19th on the grid for the SCOTT Get Geared Up 200 presented by Federated Car Care.

Cole Whitt has shown promise on NASCAR’s flat tracks. He finished in the top 30 in four of five races, with a best of 27th being earned at Phoenix. His other efforts netted a 29th at Martinsville, 30th at Pocono, and 28th at New Hampshire, which leaves a 41st at Richmond as the only poor effort.

At Richmond, Whitt had tire issues that sent him behind the wall for an extended stay. He was not the only driver to experience trouble that evening as veteran Clint Bowyer also had to make extensive repairs after a tire failure. Whitt’s consistency otherwise makes him an interesting dark horse choice for a top-25.

Bobby Gerhart finishes 18th in Friday night's ARCA Racing Series race at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Indiana.

He started the No. 5 Lucas Oil-MAVTV Chevrolet 22nd on the grid for the SCOTT Get Geared Up 200.

Juan Pablo Montoya may not have made many starts this season, but he will race a battle-tested chassis at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. His primary car was last raced by teammate Brad Keselowski in the All-star race.

Keselowski finished 10th in this chassis in May, but did not make a lot of noise during the evening. Still, Montoya needs to finish only among the teens to make him one of this week’s better values at his cap level or in Yahoo!’s Group C.

Mason Mitchell (No. 98 Ford) entered the SCOTT Get Geared Up 200 with the ARCA Racing series point lead and a 20-race streak of finishing in the top 10.

He grabbed the lead from the polesitter Brandon Jones and stayed out front for the first 52 laps of the race and regained the lead briefly later. He led a race-high 63 laps but will leave the Indianapolis area trailing Grant Enfinger by 40 points in the standings. Mitchell exited the race with a gear problem and was credited with a 20th place DNF.

Ryan Truex has reliably finished in the 30s in five flat track races this year. His best result was a 30th at Martinsville and his worst was a 36th last week at New Hampshire.

The most comparable track to Indy that he faced is Pocono, where Truex finished 32nd. This consistency gives the team a great set of notes from which to work, but it will limit his fantasy appeal until he can begin logging results in the 20s.
