Timmy Hill will make his second 2018 attempt on a similarly configured 1.5-mile speedway in this week’s Coca-Cola 600.

Hill’s one previous start on this track type this year came last week at Kansas Speedway. He finished 32nd in that race, which was comparable to this other starts in 2017. His best finish last year on the "cookie-cutter" tracks was a 28th at Kansas, but he also had a 29th in the Coke 600.

Ryan Blaney had an eight-race, top-10 streak on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks end at Kansas Speedway when he pushed up into Kyle Larson and crashed out of the KC Masterpiece 400.

In the eight races before then, Blaney’s worst finish on this track type was a 12th at Atlanta Motor Speedway this spring and his average was 7.5. There is no reason he should not be able to reload and score another top-15 in the Coke 600.

Jamie McMurray has scored six top-15s in his last eight attempts at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

McMurray’s worst finish in the last five years has been three 19th-place finishes, offset by three top-fives. His average finish of 12.3 makes him a good value on paper, but the No. 1 team has been less than stellar on unrestricted, intermediate speedways in 2018. Keep him in mind during pre-race sessions, but do not activate unless McMurray is extremely impressive in practice.

Parker Kligerman will attempt to qualify for the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway to mark his first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race since 2014.

Kligerman made eight starts for Brandon Davis in 2014 and two starts in 2013. His career-best to date was an 18th at Texas Motor Speedway in fall 2013 and he has one other top-25 later that year at Homestead-Miami Speedway. First, however, he must qualify the No. 96 Gaunt Brother Toyota with 41 cars entered for the Coke 600.

Charlotte Motor Speedway has been less than kind to Clint Bowyer in recent years with no top-10s there in the past four seasons.

Bowyer came close to earning a top-10 in fall 2015. He finished 11th in the Bank of America 500, but even that result has not been enough to raise his average to better than 18.6.
