Cole Custer (No. 00 Chevrolet SS) wins the Keystone Light 21 Means 21 Pole Award for the Inaugural Drivin' for Linemen 200 with a lap of 32.985 seconds, 136.426 mph.

Custer sets a new Gateway Motorsports Park track qualifying record, besting Ted Musgrave's lap of 135.159 mph set on April 30, 2005. This is his first pole in three NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) races. He sets a new NASCAR national series record for youngest pole winner at 16 years, 4 months, 22 days. The previous national series record holder was Casey Atwood (NASCAR Nationwide Series - 17 years, 6 months, 18 days at Nashville Speedway on March 15, 1998). The previous NCWTS record holder was Chase Elliott (17 years, 8 months, 24 days at Bristol on August 21, 2013).

David Ragan advanced to the top 12 in time trials for the first time in three weeks. He qualified 11th for the Food City 500 Supporting Steve Byrnes and Stand Up to Cancer at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The significance of this is that his last two finishing results ended in the top 15 even with modest qualification efforts. Those have been his best races of the season for Joe Gibbs Racing. His turnaround may actually have come at Auto Club Speedway, however, where he qualified third and was racing with the leaders before getting spun early.

Greg Biffle spun after his first lap of qualification for the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. NASCAR allowed him to put on a fresh pair of scuffed tires, but he could not overcome the mistake and will start Sunday’s race 33rd.

Bad luck and trouble continues for Roush-Fenway Racing. Until they reverse their fortune, fantasy players should avoid Biffle until his salary cap drops to a bargain level.

Fully recovered from ligaments injuries sustained in a qualifying crash in the NASCAR XFINITY Series season opener at Daytona in February, Carlos Contreras returns to action this weekend in time to make his Bristol debut in Saturday afternoon’s Drive To Stop Diabetes 300.

Following Bristol, the Mexico, City, Mexico driver is slated to compete in the next two NASCAR XFINITY Series races at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway and Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway respectively.
Apr 17 - 8:34 PM

Matt Kenseth posted a lap of 128.632 mph and won the pole for the Food City 500 Supporting Steve Byrnes and Stand Up to Cancer.

This is his second career pole at Bristol. His first came in 2005 and he won the Sharpie 500 after earning it. He also has victories in the fall 2006 and 2013 races that came after he qualified inside the top five. Kenseth could be one of those overlooked drivers who could help differentiate a fantasy roster.
Apr 17 - 5:46 PM

Sprint Cup regular Kevin Harvick has the best 10-lap consecutive average speed in the XFINITY Series final practice for the Drive To Stop Diabetes 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The average speed of 121.468 mph in the No. 88 Chevrolet Camaro was best of the 26 cars that ran 10 consecutive laps on the track for this final practice session. No. 54 Denny Hamlin, No. 60 Chris Buescher, No. 2 Brian Scott and No. 20 Erik Jones are the rest of the top five on this list.
Apr 17 - 5:05 PM

Sprint Cup regular Austin Dillon tops the speed chart in the Final Practice session for the XFINITY Series Drive To Stop Diabetes 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The No. 33 Ruud Chevrolet Camaro driver ran a fast lap of 124.412 mph. No. 54 Denny Hamlin, No. 18 Daniel Suarez, No. 60 Chris Buescher and No. 2 Brian Scott round out the top-five of the 39 cars out on the track. The No. 74 Dodge driven by Mike Harmon was the slowest in the final practice session.
Apr 17 - 5:02 PM

Brendan Gaughan has the best 10-lap consecutive average speed in the first practice for the XFINITY Series Drive To Stop Diabetes 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The average speed of 120.094 mph in the No. 62 Chevrolet Camaro was best of the 12 cars that ran 10 consecutive laps on the track for this session. No. 9 Chase Elliott, No. 7 Regan Smith, No. 20 Erik Jones and No. 60 Chris Buescher are the rest of the top five on this list.
Apr 17 - 4:56 PM

Kyle Larson posted the second-quickest 10-lap average in Bristol’s first practice session for the Food City 500 Supporting Steve Byrnes and Stand Up to Cancer on Friday. His top speed was 123.243 mph from laps 22 through 31.

That put him within a few hundredths of the leader Brad Keselowski. In most games he is less expensive and popular than the driver of the No. 2 and that could make him a good differentiator for one’s roster.
Apr 17 - 4:07 PM

Brad Keselowski had the quickest 10-lap average in the first practice session at Bristol with a speed of 123.670 from laps 23 through 32.

Seventeen drivers ran at least 10 laps in this session, so Keselowski’s average speed has some weight to it. Both Penske pilots have been strong all season and Keselowski should be able to keep his current six-race top-10 streak alive.
Apr 17 - 3:49 PM

Sprint Cup Series regular Denny Hamlin leads the first practice session for the XFINITY Series Drive To Stop Diabetes 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The lap of 122.100 mph in the No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota was best of the 39 cars out on the track for this session. No. 2 Brian Scott, No. 22 Joey Logano, No. 20 Erik Jones and No. 33 Austin Dillon are the rest of the top five on the speed chart. Mike Harmon in the No. 74 Dodge was the slowest.
Apr 17 - 2:59 PM

Ross Kenseth will make his XFINITY Series debut with the same team, car number and sponsor his famous father has in the Sprint Cup Series.

It will be a family affair in the June 20 race at Chicagoland Speedway, where Ross Kenseth will drive the Dollar General-sponsored No. 20 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing in his first NASCAR national series start. With the Cup circuit off that weekend, Matt Kenseth will be on hand for the race after helping broker the deal to put his son in the No. 20, which is shared by JGR drivers and carried Erik Jones to victory last Friday at Texas Motor Speedway.
