Tony Stewart finished seventh in Sunday’s Camping World RV Sales 301, but still finds himself outside of Chase contention. He currently sits 19th in the points’ standings, 22 markers behind the current cutoff.

Stewart has built a reputation for surging during the summer, but he admitted to reporters this week that he is not 100% after last year’s injury. The next three weeks will showcase races on the flat tracks of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Pocono Raceway, and the road course of Watkins Glen International. He has been strong on these tracks, so his fans should not worry yet. Fantasy players will want to take a more cautious approach to starting him, however.

Jeff Gordon missed the pole by 8/1,000ths of a second and will lineup second for Saturday night’s Irwin Tools Night Race.

Gordon started on the front row last week and won the Pure Michigan 400. Starting up front is going to be one of his keys to success this week and Gordon should be considered a favorite to finish in the top five.

Kevin Harvick set the 18th new track record of the season in 24 races and shattered the old Bristol track record of 129.991 mph. His top speed was 131.362 mph and set in the final qualification session.

Harvick’s previous best start was a third in his first-ever attempt in 2001; he finished 24th that afternoon. He has failed to qualify among the top 10 in his last 11 attempts on this track and has only one top-10 finish in that span.

Casey Mears became the third driver to slap the wall in the first session of qualification. Like Almirola’s No. 43, his No. 13 may require a backup.

Mears was not particularly fast in practice and was looking for more speed in time trials. It is difficult to imagine him as one of the Irwin Tools Night Race’s dark horses.
Aug 22 - 5:55 PM

Aric Almirola followed Kyle Larson into the wall in the first session of qualification. His car appears to have more damage than the No. 42 and may require a backup.

Almirola had the sixth-fastest speed in the first practice session was fourth-fastest in final practice, which makes two favorites to finish in the top 10 longshots before Saturday night’s race..

Kyle Larson crashed on his first lap of qualification for the Irwin Tools Night Race. He damaged both the right rear and left front of his No. 42 Chevrolet.

The damage is not extensive and probably will not require a backup car, but Larson could manage only the 40th-fastest speed and will have to roll off the grid from the back. This is most disappointing because he had the fastest speed in practice on Friday.
Aug 22 - 5:46 PM

Kevin Harvick posted the quickest 10-lap average in final practice for the Irwin Tools Night Race. His speed of 126.518 mph was recorded early in his run, from laps four through 13.

Harvick was also eighth-fastest in that session, which gives him a good balance of short and long-term speed. His odds of finishing in the top 10 have increased with this solid practice.
Aug 22 - 3:50 PM

A rookie took top honors in the first session, so it was only fitting that a sophomore should win final practice. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. posted the single fastest lap of 131.048 mph during that session.

Stenhouse showed consistency at Bristol last year, but he was still a bit of a surprise this spring when he finished second behind teammate Carl Edwards in the Food City 500. He served notice on Friday that he will not sneak up on anyone this weekend.
Aug 22 - 2:28 PM

Kyle Busch recorded the quickest average speed in the first practice session for the Irwin Tools Night Race. He went 127.186 mph in a 10-lap session from his lap 57 through 66.

Busch is tantalizing this week like he is every time the series rolls into Bristol. His biggest obstacle on Saturday night will be staying out of trouble, however, and that is not predictable.
Aug 22 - 2:27 PM

Kyle Larson posted the fastest single lap in the first practice session for the Irwin Tools Night Race. His top speed of 131.083 mph easily eclipsed the old track record of 129.991 mph set this spring by Denny Hamlin.

As drivers get accustomed to this new body style, the speeds are increasing. Larson posted a top-10 in the Food City 500 this spring and is picking up where he left off. He should be considered one of this week’s top dark horses.
Aug 22 - 1:03 PM

David Stremme slapped the wall during the first practice session at Bristol after a throttle hung. He damaged his car badly enough that the team will probably need to roll out a backup.

With only 43 cars in attendance, Stremme will still make the show. He started both Bristol races in 2013 for Swan Racing and swept the top 20.

Sprint Cup regular Brad Keselowski wins the UNOH 200 presented by ZLOOP, his first victory in 62 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races.

Keselowski becomes the 25th driver to win a race in all three of NASCAR's national series. His first Sprint Cup win came at Talladega on April 26, 2009. His first Nationwide Series win came at Nashville Superspeedway on June 7, 2008. Brad and his father Bob Keselowski become the first father/son duo to win races in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Keselowski also has two NASCAR Sprint Cup wins (Aug. 2011, March 2012) and one NASCAR Nationwide Series win (Aug. 2008) at Bristol Motor Speedway.
