William Byron scores a second place finish in Saturday's NASCAR K&N Pro Series-East race at Bristol (TN) Motor Speedway.

He started the No. 9 Liberty University Chevrolet fourth in the lineup. Byron led 44 laps of the 125 lap PittLite 125. With his runner-up finish, he takes over the 2015 NKNPSE points lead by three points over Austin Hill (who finished seventh in the race).

Justin Allgaier spent approximately 75 of the 511 laps that made up the Food City 500 inside the top 10 and he was there when it mattered most. He earned his first career Cup top-10 with an eighth on the bullring.

His previous-best finish at NASCAR’s top level came earlier this year when he finished 12th in the Auto Club 400. This dark horse continues to impress.

Kyle Larson employed an alternate strategy that allowed him to lead 90 laps late in the Food City 500, but he eventually was forced to pit for gas and lost a lap in the process. He raced into the Free Pass position and got back on the lead lap, then surged late in the going with fresh tires to finish seventh.

That was Larson’s third top-12 finish in as many Bristol races. This is rapidly becoming one of Larson’s better tracks with an average finish of better than 10th in three attempts. Finishing seventh marks this as his best finish of 2015 to date.
Apr 20 - 12:20 AM

Tony Stewart earned his first top-10 of the season and only his second top-15 by surviving the Food City 500 and finishing sixth.

Stewart’s accomplishment did not come without a little drama. He got together with Kasey Kahne on lap 484 and triggered a five-car accident. He survived while the remaining drivers sustained heavy damage. Stewart gets to carry his momentum forward to Richmond—which is a track that has been kind to him in the past.

When Joey Logano crashed with his teammate Brad Keselowski on lap 20 of the Food City 500, he snapped two impressive streaks. It signaled the first time this season that he would fail to finish in the top 10 and it was the first time in 24 races that he would not finish on the lead lap.

Logano finished 40th but was still running at the end of the race—59 laps down to the leader. With a victory in the bank from the season-opening Daytona 500, he is still third in the Chase rankings.
Apr 20 - 12:09 AM

After two weeks with results outside the top 10, Ryan Newman climbed back into the top five. He finished third through fifth in three straight races from Las Vegas through Auto Club, but then struggled at Martinsville and Texas.

With 25 points restored to his total after partially winning last week’s appeal of penalties stemming from an infraction at Auto Club, Newman has now climbed back into the top 16 in the standings and is in Chase contention once more.
Apr 20 - 12:04 AM

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. survived several incidents early and kept his nose clean late to finish fourth in the Food City 500. It was his third straight top-10 finish after recording a second last spring and sixth last fall.

Stenhouse went unnoticed by most fantasy owners after he struggled a little in Bristol practice, but those who kept the faith were rewarded. He will be front of mind when this bullring rolls around again.
Apr 19 - 10:52 PM

For the second straight week, Jeff Gordon scored a season-best finish. He was seventh in the Duck Commander 500 last week and finished third in the Food City 500 to earn his first top-five of the season.

Gordon had to battle back from two laps down after he was forced to pit for a loose wheel. He got a Wave Around and a Free Pass and then made the most of his opportunity, which is how success is gauged at Bristol.
Apr 19 - 10:47 PM

Jimmie Johnson sustained major crash damage on a couple of occasions and incurred a penalty by NASCAR during the race, but he managed to get back on the lead lap and then surged to the top five. Johnson even had a shot to win in the final laps and finished second in the Food City 500 Supporting Steve Byrnes and Stand Up to Cancer.

Short track racing is a style that rewards perseverance. Johnson’s fight back from a lap down was impressive and underscores the strength of this team.
Apr 19 - 10:40 PM

It took all day and most of the night, but Matt Kenseth held off determined Hendrick Motorsports teammates Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon to win the "Food City 511." Kenseth won from the pole and snapped a 52-race winning streak. The race was slowed by red flags three times and extended 11 laps by one green-white-checkered attempt.

The last time Kenseth won at Bristol from the pole in 2005, he also snapped a 50+-race winless streak. He becomes the sixth different winner of the season and punched his ticket to the 2015 Chase.
Apr 19 - 10:34 PM

After a lengthy rain delay, Erik Jones will replace Denny Hamlin behind the wheel of the No. 11.

Points are awarded in fantasy games to the drivers who start, but this is still important for its implications. Hamlin had a neck spasm that would keep him from running to his potential and Jones may give him a better finish than he would have earned.
