Erik Jones leads the first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series practice session at Eldora Speedway.

He ran a quick lap of 90.749 mph in the No. 51 Toyota Tundra. No. 35 Mason Mingus, No. 88 Matt Crafton, No. 19 Tyler Reddick and No. 32 Kyle Larson rounded out the top five of the 32 trucks practicing for the 1-800 Car Cash Mudsummer Classic. Jennifer Jo Cobb, in the No. 10 truck, was the slowest. Jones also had the fastest 10-lap average speed (77.068 mph) among the 25 trucks that ran 10 consecutive laps on the track for this session.

Slugger Labbe, crew chief for the No. 33 Joe Falk team, has been suspended for three weeks for rules violations stemming from Auto Club Speedway. The team had an "unapproved truck trailer arm installation" according to a NASCAR press release.

The No. 33 finished 27th in the Auto Club 400 with Brian Scott behind the wheel, but they ran much better than that for most of the afternoon. Labbe’s loss will impact the team and negatively affect their fantasy handicap

Sam Hornish Jr. has made eight previous starts at Martinsville, but his most recent effort came in fall 2012. He finished 13th in a third Penske Racing entry.

Hornish also missed the entire 2011 season and the spring 2012 event which means fantasy players have to go back to 2010 for a complete picture of his results. He finished 13th that spring, but sustained damage and finished 25th in the fall—four laps off the pace.

Chase Elliott will make his Cup debut this week, but that does not mean he is lacking in short track experience. His last three starts in the XFINITY series at Richmond and Bristol combined resulted in a sweep of the top five in qualification and finishing results.

Elliott will be in equipment that rivals teammates Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson—both of whom have eight Martinsville victories. What he does with that equipment remains to be seen, but a top-20 is not out of the question.
Mar 26 - 10:44 AM

Alex Kennedy will make his second start of the season in the No. 33 Joel Falk / Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet. His first attempt came two weeks ago at Phoenix where he finished 38th after taking a provisional to get into the show.

Flat tracks are supposed to be kind to road racers, and while that is not uniformly true, Kennedy scored a 28th at Pocono last year. He deserves attention this week and a possible start if he practices well.
Mar 25 - 6:14 PM

Cole Whitt has progressively improved in three Martinsville starts in the Cup series. He finished 35th in his fall 2013 debut, was 29th in this race last year, and 18th in the fall. Whitt finished on the lead lap in the Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500.

Fantasy owners should not expect another top-20 out of Whitt, but neither should they be surprised if he finishes that well. A solid result in the top-30 would be enough to recommend starting him in games where he is appropriately priced.

This week JJ Yeley will make his first spring Martinsville attempt since 2013. He finished 27th in that event driving a Tommy Baldwin Racing car.

Yeley has made two fall starts since then, but last year he managed to finish only 39th in the BK Racing No. 83. He should fare better this week, but it is unlikely to be enough to make him a great value in most fantasy games.
Mar 25 - 5:31 PM

Josh Wise failed to qualify at Martinsville in his first attempt in 2009 driving for a relatively unknown team owned by Barry Haefele. His next two starts ended before the 100-lap mark, but he has been running at the end of his last four attempts and expects to do so again this week.

Racing for Front Row Motorsports in 2013 he finished in the mid-30s twice. Last year he was 35th in the STP 500, but improved considerably and finished 25th in the fall. Wise was only one lap off the pace at the time.
Mar 25 - 5:16 PM

Chris Buescher will be back behind the wheel of the No. 34 this week after running so strong at Auto Club Speedway. His 20th-place finish there obviously turned some heads.

Buescher should be watched closely, but only intrepid fantasy owners will want to give him an allocation. This will be his first start in any series on this track and Martinsville can be tricky to learn.
Mar 25 - 11:47 AM

If Mike Bliss qualifies for the STP 500 this week he will have to count that as a minor success after failing to make his last three attempts at Martinsville.

Racing the lightly-funded No. 19 in 2012 and 2013, Bliss missed three consecutive shows and has not been back. The No. 32 is higher in owner points than that team was at the time, however. Bliss’ last Martinsville start came in 2010 with Tommy Baldwin Racing. He sustained crash damage, finished three laps off the pace, but still managed to score a top-25.
Mar 25 - 11:36 AM

Matt DiBenedetto will attempt to make his first Cup start at Martinsville this week, but he does have some experience there. In three starts in the Bailey’s / MDCU 300, he swept the top 10.

His best finish came in 2004 when he crossed under the checkers fourth of 42 starters. Simply making the show that year was a huge accomplishment with a car count in excess of 100.
Mar 25 - 11:19 AM

Gray Gaulding announced he will reunite with Toyota Racing in partnership with Red Horse Racing in the NASCAR Camping Word Truck Series (NCWTS) and Precision Performance Motorsports for the remaining NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) schedule.

Gaulding, a second year member of the NASCAR Next class, announced that he will compete for Red Horse Racing in the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway and is working on adding additional races in the No. 7 Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Toyota Tundra. Butch Hylton will serve as crew chief of the No. 7 Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Toyota Tundra, Hylton has multiple wins in the NCWTS including sweeping both races in 2010 at Martinsville Speedway.
