Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) left the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and flew directly to the road course in Watkins Glen, New York for a two-day test session for Marcos Ambrose and Aric Almirola beginning today, July 28th.

The goal of the test will be to collect information to help give Ambrose and Almirola the best setup possible before returning in two weeks for the race. If Ambrose can win the event, it will help secure him and Almirola into the championship run at the end of the season. RPM heads to this test this week with Almirola nearly locked into The Chase and giving Ambrose its full efforts to secure his spot too.-Breaking Limits

He qualified 29th for the Coke 600 and has finished better than that in his last eight races on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks.

Jamie McMurray posted the quickest average speed in final practice for the Coke 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway with a 180.914 during his lap 22-31 run.

Speed over the long haul is important for a 600-mile race and that bodes well for his handicap. Last fall’s 10th-place finish was his first top-10 in four races, but he swept the top five at Charlotte in 2014 and enters this week with a perfect record of top-10s in four similarly-configured, 1.5-mile track races. He should be able to crack the top 10 Sunday night.
