Landon Cassill has finished 21st and 20th in his last two starts with StarCom Racing.

At the end of 2017, Cassill gave Front Row Motorsports 10 consecutive finishes in the 20s. That suggests his pair of 20-something results with StarCom means that he is getting all there is out of the car. Bear in mind, however, that both Texas Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway featured heavy attrition.

In five starts at Richmond Raceway, Chase Elliott has never failed to complete the full race distance.

Completing 2,011 laps of competition in five races, Elliott has managed to stay in contention despite suffering crash damage in fall 2016. Until last fall, however, he failed to score a single top-10 and had only one other top-15.

Paul Menard has earned one top-10 at Richmond Raceway, but it was a good one; he finished fifth in the 2013 Federated Auto Parts 400.

This is Menard's worst track in regard to career-average finishes with a 24.6 in 22 starts. With his new Wood Brothers ride, he should easily be able to beat that average, but fantasy owners probably want to wait and see how he performs before making a commitment.

Reed Sorenson finished 33rd and 30th in Richmond Raceway’s two races last year.

Sorenson’s two best finished with Premium Motorsports was a 26th in fall 2016 and a 30th last fall. He has not been quite as strong in the spring, so fantasy owners can expect a result in the low- to mid-30s this week.

Harrison Rhodes will make his fifth start in the Cup series this week in the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway.

Rhodes will make his first start at Richmond, but be now has two starts on short tracks. Neither of them were particularly productive with a 35th at Martinsville Speedway and a 37th at Bristol Motor Speedway, so this will be a week to evaluate his potential – but do not start him.

In terms of career average finishes, Richmond Raceway ranks as Ryan Blaney’s worst track with a 30.3 in four starts.

Blaney’s career is still in its infancy, so there is still plenty of time for these numbers to change and Richmond may not always be his worst track. The fact remains that he has not yet cracked the top 15 there, however, and three of his four results landed outside the top 25.
Apr 19 - 5:40 PM

Trevor Bayne has three mid-teens finishes in his last four Richmond Raceway starts.

Bayne earned a career-best last spring in the Toyota Owners 400 when he finished 13th; his other two mid-teens finishes in the past four races came in 2016. That streak was broken last fall when he fell two laps off the pace to finish 25th. He is a bit of a coin toss this week, but should be activated if he practices well.

Darrell Wallace Jr. will make his first appearance at Richmond Raceway in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. He finished 34th at Martinsville and 16th at Bristol in his first two short track runs of the season.

Wallace replaced Aric Almirola in four races during the 2017 season but did not compete at a short track, so his 2018 Martinsville and Bristol performances are the best gauges fantasy owners have going into the weekend. Last week, Wallace preformed aggressively to get the No. 43 car to the front and lead his first laps of the season, Wallace would ultimately fall back to 16th as he lost speed with old tires while teams waited on NASCAR to release the final set during Monday’s race finale. As Wallace becomes more comfortable week to week at the Cup level the driver will make more aggressive moves to get Richard Petty Motorsport back up to the front.

As Erik Jones’ continues to hunt his first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series win, the circuits three short tracks gives the young driver the opportunity to earn it.

Jones finished sixth in last year’s fall race at Richmond Raceway improving on his 38th-place finish in his debut when he cut a tire and was out of the race on lap six. Before last year’s early exit, Jones topped second practice and qualified 20th. By the time the fall race at Richmond and the regular season finale came around Jones was the talk of the town as fans and fantasy owners anxiously awaited his first win. A month earlier Jones dominated at the Bristol Motor Speedway night race before being out raced by Kyle Busch with 55 laps to go.

Kevin Harvick’s last win at Richmond Raceway came during the 2013 spring race and the driver has stayed consistently successful at NASCAR’s third short-track of the season.

The last time Kevin Harvick won at Richmond was in the spring of 2013 when a late-race caution caused a green-white-checkered finish. The restart greatly benefited the then Richard Childress driver who was running in the back half of the top 10 before the yellow. Since the win, Harvick has recorded five top-fives at the track in nine races. Last year in this race Harvick finished fifth for the third time in row at Richmond, he broke his streak when he finished 15th in the 2017 regular season finale. His past success at Richmond is coupled with his stellar start of 2018 in which he’s ended the race in Victory Lane. While a poor finish at Auto Club thawed the driver from pulling off a four race winning, Harvick proved that he could quickly bounce back with a runner-up finish at Texas and a top-10 at Bristol.
