Doug Coby (No. 2 Mayhew Tools/Dunleavy's/AJ Romano Construction Chevrolet),the four-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour series champion, leads the championship standings by 10 points entering Thompson (CT) Speedway Motorsports Park, as he looks to capture a fourth straight championship.

In 15 starts this season, Coby has one win, nine top fives and 10 top 10 finishes. In 53 Thompson starts, Coby has five wins, 18 top fives and 31 top 10s, along with 854 laps led.

Brad Keselowski winning streak is over but the Penske driver was still able to hold on to a top-10 finish at Richmond Raceway. Keselowski led the 3rd most laps of the race but not when it counted at the end of a stage or under the checkered flag.

Keselowski lost the points lead this week to the race winner Kyle Busch but he heads into Roval week with one thing the majority of the drivers don't have, their ticket punched to the Round of 12. Keselowski will be under less pressure and can play it safe while others might make dangerous moves to either keep or gain their spot.

Jimmie Johnson finished eighth at Richmond Raceway in the Federated 400.

This is meaningful because it is one of the first times that he ran among the top 10 all day. He is 14th in the standings and this strong run might have come too late to advance him through the playoffs. If he continues to improve and misses Round 2, he might become the go-to driver among non-playoff drivers.

Kyle Larson finished seventh in both Richmond Raceway events this year.

Larson had a good finish and ran among the top 10 most of the evening, but he lacked domination. Seven is the operative number; he is seventh in the points as well. Larson needs more momentum than this to contend for the championship.
Sep 22 - 11:33 PM

Clint Bowyer improved 14 positions from his starting position of 24th to nab the final position in the top 10 in the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond Raceway. While Bowyer finished ahead of six of his fellow playoff contenders he currently finds himself four points below the Round of 12 cutoff line due to his 23rd place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Bowyer's position on the outside of the bubble going in to the final race of the Round of 16 is precarious as all will be decided at the wild card Roval track. Bowyer will need to avoid becoming a casualty to gain entrance into the next round.

On the heels of a sixth-place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Aric Almirola finished fifth at Richmond Raceway in the Federated 400.

Almirola was not expected to advance out of Round 1 of the playoffs. He benefitted from attrition last week, but this finish came out of flat out of speed. Almirola can be inconsistent and we suggested caution after practice. If he survives the Roval, he could be a great dark horse going forward.

While Justin Bonsignore and Ryan Preece made contact and crashed racing for the lead in turn three on the final lap of the inaugural Musket 250 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Chase Dowling slid by both of them to score his first career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour win.

In July, it was Dowling who came off turn four in position to win at the ‘Magic Mile,’ but lost the dash to the checkered by just .014 seconds to Bobby Santos III. This time, Dowling edged Patrick Emerling by 0.056 seconds, moments before the yellow flew for the rest of the field.

Kevin Harvick finished second at Richmond Raceway in the Federated 400 after starting the race on the pole.

"I'm terrified of next week," Harvick said. He enters the Charlotte Roval with a 57-point margin over the cutline. He is not officially locked in to Round 2, but it would take weird math to drop him out of the playoffs. Harvick was much happier this week than last. Still, next week's race is a complete Pick 'Em.

Martin Truex Jr. swept the stages at Richmond Raceway in the Federated 400.

Truex has been the dominator so far. He could be on his way to earning his first ever short track win.
Sep 22 - 9:05 PM

Martin Truex Jr. won Stage 1 of the Federated 400 at Richmond Raceway.

This is Truex's ninth stage win of the year. It adds an additional playoff point to his bonus and that will transfer into Rounds 2 and 3 of the playoffs.
Sep 22 - 8:21 PM

Denny Hamlin was run into from behind by Ricky Stenhouse Jr. on Lap 52 and almost spun.

Stenhouse has just pitted for tires and misjudged the closing rate. Hamlin started on the front row and was running in the top 10. He was forced to pit a few laps later and lost a lap, but should be able to get back on the lead lap before the stage ends.
Sep 22 - 8:04 PM

Martin Truex Jr. took the lead of the Federated 400 at Richmond Raceway on Lap 40.

Truex ran well last week and this team is still among the leaders. For the moment, they are still part of the Big 3.
