Paul Menard has not scored a top-10 on a short track in his last 15 attempts.

Menard’s last short track top-10 came in spring 2016 while he was driving for Richard Childress Racing. Since then, he has come close only three times with top-15s—the most recent of which was a pair of 13ths this spring at Martinsville and Bristol.

Timmy Hill has made nine previous starts on short tracks in the Cup series and has finished better than he started on seven of those occasions (77.8 percent of the time).

Hill’s last Richmond attempt came in spring 2017. In that race, he started 37th and improved to finish 34th at the checkers. He was running at the end, but seven laps off the pace.

Erik Jones needs to rebound this week at Richmond Raceway after finishing last in the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

His odds of finishing in the top 10 this week are decent. In 10 previous starts on short tracks in the Cup series, he has three top-10s and has finished 17th or better seven times. His best result was a second at Bristol Motor Speedway last year. His best Richmond result was sixth in the 2017 Federated Auto Parts 400.

William Byron is still seeking his first top-10 on a short track in the Cup series in his fifth start.

Byron’s best short track finish to date came at Richmond Raceway this spring. He started the race ninth, completed all the laps, and finished 12th. That is the only time he has gone the full distance, however.

AJ Allmendinger posted the third fastest lap in the first practice session for the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond Raceway with a speed of 119.065 mph.

We don't have Allmendinger handicapped very high on the Richmond Cheat Sheets, but he could be a pleasant surprise for fantasy players who are not risk-averse. He will need to qualify in the front half of the pack, however, in order not to get mired in traffic where this quick elapsed time would be useless. In the morning session, he was fifth-fasted in terms of single lap speed.
