Harrison Burton (No. 12 DEX Imaging Toyota) scored a 3rd place finish in Sunday night's NASCAR K&N Pro Series-East (KNPSE) season-opening New Smyrna 175 at New Smyrna (FL) Speedway.

He started on the pole, led 79 laps and completed all laps of the 175-lap event. Burton opens the season 3rd in the 2018 KNPSE driver point standings after this event.

Kyle Busch brought out an early caution when he crashed on Lap 2 of the Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway. He battled back onto the lead lap and ran as high as second before sustaining damage a final time on lap 481. He last three laps with that incident and finished 20th.

Both incidents were unforced errors. Busch also pushed up into Martin Truex Jr. late in the race. Could this be the first sign of weakness from one of the Big 3? Only time will tell.

Kevin Harvick was forced to make an unscheduled pit stop on lap 185 of the Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway while battling for a top five position. He lost two laps, but recovered to finish 10th.

As disappointing as that was for his fantasy owners, he was the only member of the top Big 3 to score a top-10. Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. both sustained crash damage and finished 20th and 30th respectively.
Aug 19 - 12:03 AM

Jimmie Johnson finished 9th in the Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway after being handicapped sixth in the pre-race cheat sheets.

Johnson had a car capable of challenging for a top-five, but contact with Kyle Busch and Chris Buescher in the closing laps caused him to make an extra pit stop. He battled back to finish well on a track that has traditionally been very kind.
Aug 18 - 11:59 PM

Alex Bowman finished eighth in the Night Race of Bristol Motor Speedway to earn his third top-10 in four short track races this season.

Hendrick Motorsports is finally turning their season around on tracks that are not aero-sensitive. Bowman should be watched closely two weeks from now when the series rolls into Darlington Raceway.
Aug 18 - 11:55 PM

Ryan Blaney finished seventh in the Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway after leading three times for 121 laps.

This is Blaney's second top-10 at Bristol and both of them have come under the lights. It was not a win, but leading more than 120 laps was a bit of a redemption after dominating in the spring until he was caught up in someone else's accident.
Aug 18 - 11:52 PM

Clint Bowyer got passed by teammate Kurt Busch on a lap-476 restart and gave up the lead. Without the preferred position, he eventually dropped back to sixth at the checkers.

Bowyer was disappointed, but that was his first top-10 in the last seven races. More importantly, he had a car capable of challenging for the victory and that is going to give the team some momentum heading into the last two races of the regular season.
Aug 18 - 11:46 PM

Erik Jones finished fifth in the Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway after starting 14th.

That makes seven top-10 finishes for Jones in his last nine races. This is Jones' second top-five at Bristol and both of them have come under the lights. Make a note of that for 2019, because he may be a driver to avoid in the spring.
Aug 18 - 11:40 PM

Joey Logano finished fourth in the Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway after starting the race in 19th.

This was Logano's seventh top-10 in the last nine races at Bristol. In practice on Friday, he struggled on long runs, but he found that little something extra in race trim. This will give the Team Penske driver some momentum heading into the final two races of the regular season.
Aug 18 - 11:13 PM

Chase Elliott finished third in the Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway to earn his fifth consecutive top 10 this season.

This was only Elliott's second top-five at Bristol. His first top-five came in his inaugural attempt in 2016. This made him one of the top points' earners, but Elliott believed he had a car capable of winning. We agree.
Aug 18 - 11:03 PM

For the second time in 2018, Kyle Larson finished second to a Busch brother. In the Night Race at Bristol, he finished in the runner-up position to Kurt Busch; this spring, he was second to Kyle Busch.

Larson had fresher tires than Kurt Busch at the end of the race, but his handling went away in the middle stages of the race. He was disappointed to lose, but likely earned a better position than he would have without late-race cautions.
Aug 18 - 10:58 PM

Michael Annett (No. 5 Chevrolet) finished seventh in Friday night's NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) Food City 300 at Bristol (TN) Motor Speedway.

He started 22nd in the lineup and completed 309 laps of the 310 laps run. Annett entered all 22 NXS races run so far this season and is ranked 13th in the 2018 driver point standings after this event.
