He ran a fast lap of 181.714 mph. No. 20 Christopher Bell, No. 21 Daniel Hemric, No. 18 Kyle Busch and No. 2 Matt Tifft round out the top-five of the 38 cars out on the track. The No. 79 Chevrolet, driven by Josh Reaume, was the slowest in the final practice session.

AJ Allmendinger, who delivered JTG Daugherty’s first team win in a Watkins Glen thriller back in 2014, will not return to the No. 47 Chevrolet next year, the team has announced.

Allmendinger has driven the No. 47 for the Tad Geschickter-owned team since late in the 2013 season. His masterful win at The Glen was the highlight, with the dramatic victory qualifying the team for the postseason.

"Due to unforeseen issues with additional sponsorship needed, Cody Coughlin will no longer drive the No. 2 Chevrolet for GMS Racing. We are grateful for the relationship we made with Cody and the Coughlin family. We wish them the best in their future endeavors."

"Spencer (Gallagher) will fulfill the No. 2 GMS entry at Talladega, and we will announce who will be driving the remainder of the year at a later date."- Mike Beam President of GMS Racing

BJ McLeod Motorsports (BJMM) announced today that Vinnie Miller has signed a multi-year agreement with the team to compete in the NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS).

Miller will be the organization’s first full-time driver. Founded in 2016, BJMM is a full-time NXS team owned by Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series driver, BJ McLeod and his wife Jessica. BJMM is preparing to move into a newly renovated state-of-the-art race shop located in Mooresville, N.C. The pairing will get a jump on the future through an agreement with JD Motorsports with Gary Keller (JDM) that will allow Miller to run the final six NXS races of 2018 with BJMM.

Justin Marks has decided that this weekend at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval will end his NASCAR career.

Marks has entered both the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series–Xfinity Series doubleheader at the new infield road-course event for Premium Motorsports and Chip Ganassi Racing, respectively. Marks is a noted entrepreneur, primarily known in motorsports as a road-course ringer. The 37-year-old is currently full time in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with Meyer Shank Racing.

Fury Race Cars returns to the site of its NASCAR Xfinity Series debut to take on a completely new challenge: the inaugural running of the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL.

The No. 61 Ford Mustang team, which has competed in 10 Xfinity Races since its first event on May 26, earned a 10th-place finish in its Charlotte Motor Speedway debut. This will be Kaz Grala’s fourth road-course race of 2018 and fifth ever in a top-three series. Grala’s best finish on a road course in 2018 is 11th, which he earned in the team’s last event at Road America, but he has run in the top-10 at one point in all three road course events.-Fury Race Cars

Jamie McMurray has several good finishes in the past three years on road courses, but he has been uneven and failed to produce two top-10s in the same season at any point of his career.

In the past three seasons, McMurray earned three top-10s. Two of these came at Watkins Glen and one was scored at Sonoma. There have been so many misfortunes for this driver in 2018 that is impossible to predict that he will finish in the single digits.

Clint Bowyer entered the Go Bowling at the Glen with three consecutive top-five finishes, but slipped to 11th in that race.

Bowyer is one of the most undervalued and appreciated drivers in the field on a road course. If he struggles this weekend, it will almost certainly be on account of an incident that was not of his making.
Sep 25 - 2:03 PM

Kyle Larson is gaining momentum at the right time. He has scored four top-10s in the last five races of the season.

Larson keeps coming close to winning. In the past five weeks he’s finished second twice and third once. In most of those races, he was challenging for the win late in the going. Once the series gets past the Charlotte Roval, Larson should be evaluated every week.

Brad Keselowski faded at the end of the Federated 400, but his ninth-place finish gives him a four-race, top-10 streak and ties him with Kyle Busch for the longest.

The standings have been jumbled in the past several weeks as top contenders have been involved in accidents. Keselowski’s three victories mostly came via strategy and last week was the first "honest" result – according to the driver. Expect him to continue to challenge for top-10s.
Sep 25 - 1:55 PM

Trevor Bayne will be behind the wheel of the No. 6 this week and a 20-something finish is his most likely result, based on his road course history.

Bayne has finished between 22nd and 27th in five of his previous seven road course attempts. He had one previous top-10 at Watkins Glen, but the Charlotte Roval is more likely to behave like the technical Sonoma Raceway where his best result is 23rd.
Sep 25 - 1:49 PM

Chase Elliott is one of six drivers this year who have placed inside the top 10 in both previous road course starts and now he’s aiming for a top-10 sweep.

It’s difficult to predict success or failure on the upcoming Charlotte Roval, but this is an encouraging statistic nevertheless. If Elliott can record a top-10 and earn some stage points, he will make it to Round 2.
