Christian Eckes, already a two-time ARCA Series winner, thrilled onlookers back in April at Salem Speedway with a late race, side-by-side battle with teammate Chandler Smith before capturing the checkered flag for his first series victory.

Saturday night’s race will mark Eckes’ fourth career start on the high banks of Salem. During his first track appearance back in the Spring of ’17 he led 91-laps before settling for an 8th place finish. He led another 72-laps earlier this year on his way to victory lane.

After missing the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour opener at South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach Speedway, Tommy Catalano made his debut at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park in April, finishing 15th. At the time, his plan was to run select races in preparation for the 2019 season.

After 15 starts across seven months, Catalano is celebrating his decision. The Ontario, New York, driver clinched the Sunoco Rookie of the Year award on the Whelen Modified Tour, defeating Blake Barney by 26 points.

A rookie season that ended with four checkered flags, and a NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship, puts Tyler Ankrum in an elite list of drivers.

Ankrum becomes just the sixth driver in K&N Pro Series East history to win both the Sunoco Rookie of the Year and the championship in the same season. He joins William Byron (2015), Ben Rhodes (2014), Kyle Larson (2012), Ryan Truex (2009) and Joey Logano (2007) in the list of drivers who have accomplished the feat.

On the heels of back-to-back top-10 finishes in his most recent ARCA Racing Series races at Chicagoland Speedway and Pocono Raceway, Codie Rohrbaugh and his No. 7 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet team head to Kansas Speedway hoping to close out their ARCA season with a top-five finish in Friday night’s Kansas ARCA 150.

In seven ARCA starts this season, Rohrbaugh has maneuvered four top-10 finishes in the last five starts including a season-high and career-best seventh-place result in the rain-shortened ModSpace 150 at Pocono. Now, the 24-year-old returns to the 1.5-mile speedway of Kansas Speedway hoping to improve on his eighth-place result in last year’s season finale.-GCMulch.com

DGR-Crosley announced that newly crowned NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Champion Tyler Ankrum will drive for the team in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Texas Roadhouse 200 at Martinsville Speedway.

Ankrum will pilot the No. 54 May's Hawaii Toyota Tundra in his NCWTS debut. He will be making his NCWTS debut just three weeks after being crowned the 2018 K&N East Champion. In his rookie season, the 17-year-old scored four wins, nine top-five's and finished outside of the top-10 in only two races. Ankrum and his No. 17 Modern Meat Co. team led nearly 300 laps during the 2018 season and had an average finish of 4.8. - DGR Crosley

NASCAR handed down a penalty to Kyle Larson's No. 42 team for "Damaged Vehicle Repair" after last weekend’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) event at Talladega Superspeedway.

Infraction: Section 10.9.9.d Damaged vehicle repair, regardless of how the damage occurred, is permitted to have original body parts removed or reattached in their original location with fasteners and/or tape only. Crew chief (Chad Johnston) has been fined $25,000. Car chief (David Bryant) has been suspended from the next MENCS championship points event. Ryan Reed (No. 16 Drive Down A1C Lilly Diabetes Ford Mustang) will make his fifth NASCAR Xfinity Series start at Kansas Speedway this weekend.

In his four previous starts at the 1.5-mile track, his best finish of 10th came in 2017. He has an average finish of 13.8 at Kansas Speedway. In two ARCA Racing Series starts at Kansas Speedway, Reed earned two top-10 finishes, crossing the finish line 10th in 2012 and fourth in 2015. Daniel Hemric (No. 21 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet Camaro) will be making his second NASCAR Xfinity Series start at Kansas Speedway during this weekend's 300-lap event.

In his first start at the 1.5-mile speedway, Hemric started 10th and was inside the top 10 for much of the afternoon. A late-race pit road penalty resulted in an 18th-place finish.-Richard Childress Racing
