Free agent J.R. Smith confirmed that he's nearing a deal with the Knicks, according to Hoopsworld's Alex Kennedy.

The New York Daily News is also reporting that a deal for the $2.5 million exception is essentially done. We'd expect official word by Friday. Smith will certainly be a fantasy asset as a sixth man in New York thanks to his explosive 3-point ability. The 12.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.6 3-pointers and 1.2 steals in 24.9 minutes he averaged for the Nuggets last year is a reasonable expectation.

With NBA commissioner David Stern in attendance on Tuesday morning, the Warriors formally announced their intention to move the franchise to a San Francisco waterfront arena after their lease at Oracle Arena expires in 2017.

Owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber, San Francisco mayor Ed Lee, Warriors legends Nate Thurmond and Al Attles, team executive Jerry West, head coach Mark Jackson and center David Lee were also in attendance for the press conference which was hosted by Ahmad Rashad. The move is scheduled to take place in 2017, with San Francisco providing the land and the Warriors paying to repair the crumbling piers, and privately financing the arena project. The cost of repairs is estimated at $75 to $100 million.

Deron Williams said he hasn't made a decision regarding his free agency yet.

D-Will said that he's no closer to making a decision than he was at the end of the season. Despite some taking his presence at Nets' free agent minicamp as a sign he wants to remain in Brooklyn, he sat down with the media to clear up any potential speculation. For what it's worth, Williams said he'll be visiting Dallas later this week and said nobody should read into that, either. Whether he likes it or not, speculation on Williams' decision will exist until he ultimately signs.

Erik Spoelstra said he expects the same starting lineup used in Game 4 for Tuesday's Game 5 against the Pacers.

Given that's the case, James will be joined by Dwyane Wade, Mario Chalmers, Shane Battier and Ronny Turiaf. We'd expect to see a healthy dose of Udonis Haslem despite his coming off the bench once again after Turiaf played a shade under 14 minutes in Game 4 and had nothing to show for it except a single rebound and four personal fouls.

Andrew Bynum said "I'm not sure" when asked about his future with the Lakers.

The Lakers have a team option on Bynum for just over $16 million next season, but Los Angeles has already said they'll look into extending his contract. After averaging 18.7 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks during a breakout season, it's not going to be easy to come together on a new deal. Bynum also said that he would "definitely want to be a Laker," but acknowledged that it's up to the team and that he'll "play anywhere." The Lakers have until June 30 to exercise the option on Bynum's current contract.

The Knicks are expected to announce Mike Woodson's new contract with the team sometime "this week," a source tells the New York Post.

This was essentially a formality after the New York Daily News had previously reported the two sides were working on a new deal. James Dolan had reportedly asked Woodson to switch agencies to CAA (a firm with power inside the organization), and now the final details of Woodson's new deal are being hammered out. CAA represents Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith, team personnel director Mark Warkentien and assistant GM Allan Houston. To nobody's surprise, the candidate Melo endorsed as head coach will remain with the team.

Dwight Howard still wants to leave the Magic, a source close to Howard tells SheridanHoops.com

Take this with a grain of salt. We're skeptical on "sources" close to any player revealing the full truth, but it's not exactly groundbreaking news that Howard may still want to leave Orlando. Sheridan lists the Nets, Mavericks, Knicks, Clippers and Lakers as teams that "would appeal" to Howard, but that's essentially rehashing old information that we already knew. Sheridan cites the source as saying Howard wants out now "more than ever" in order to start a new chapter in his career, and all we're assured of at this point is another offseason of uncertainty with Howard.

Russell Westbrook put on another virtuoso performance in the Thunder's 106-90 series-ending win over the Lakers on Monday, scoring 28 points on 12-of-25 shooting with three rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Kevin Durant had 25 points on 9-of-21 shooting with 10 boards, four assists, and two steals of his own, but the first two series for the Thunder have seen Westbrook carry MVP honors for the team. James Harden was his normal efficient self with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting with eight rebounds and four assists, and the Thunder now look to the Spurs in what qualifies as the real NBA finals with the Heat struggling against a sneaky Pacers squad.
May 22 - 12:47 AM

Kobe Bryant scored 42 points on 18-of-33 shooting (1-of-6 from deep, 5-of-7 from the line) with five rebounds, zero assists, and two steals in the Lakers' season-ending loss to the Thunder on Monday.

Say what you want about Mike Brown's rudderless offense and Kobe's high-volume approach -- he was the only Laker that didn't totally shrink during the playoff series and even he had his ugly moments. Ramon Sessions (eight points, three assists) was a total liability on the court and should have been penetrating against Derek Fisher on the second unit, Andrew Bynum (10 points, four boards) was flat out lazy at times, and Pau Gasol (14 points, 16 boards) played a somewhat tougher game but still refused to go to the block. All that's left now is to see if Jim Buss blows up the team.
May 22 - 12:29 AM

Brandon Bass tied a career-high with 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting (9-of-10 from the foul line), six rebounds, two steals, and two blocks in the Celtics' 101-85 Game 5 win over the Sixers on Monday.

With just 10 turnovers and advantages across the stat sheet, the Celtics controlled the game and control the series heading into Wednesday's Game 6. Rajon Rondo went for 13 and 14, Ray Allen continued to be quiet with five points on 2-of-7 shooting, KG scored 20 points with six boards and two steals, Paul Pierce scored 16 points, and Greg Stiemsma showed up with 10 points and three blocks.
May 21 - 10:18 PM

Andre Iguodala scored eight points on 3-of-10 shooting (1-of-4 from deep, 1-of-4 from the line) with six rebounds, three assists, and three steals in the Sixers' Game 5 loss to the Celtics on Monday.

Normally Iguodala's low scoring totals come with the territory, but when Lavoy Allen is the Sixers' second leading scorer with 12 points the star needs to score more points. Evan Turner scored 11 points on 5-of-13 shooting with 10 boards and three assists, Spencer Hawes had 10 points, five boards, and three assists, Elton Brand scored 19 points with just three boards, two steals, and a block, Lou Williams had just nine points on 3-of-10 shooting, and Thad Young went 3-of-8 for six points with four boards.
May 21 - 10:04 PM

Updating a previous item, Avery Bradley (shoulder) has been ruled out for Monday night's Game 5 against the Sixers.

Ray Allen will start and what is also interesting is that head coach Doc Rivers said Bradley hurt his other shoulder as well and may be in and out of the lineup going forward.
