J.R. Smith was arrested on Thursday night on a bench warrant for driving without a valid license.

Not a good way for J.R. to start his offseason. After being stopped by police, a routine search revealed the bench warrant. Smith was booked into jail just before midnight and bonded out early Friday morning.

Jusuf Nurkic (sprained right ankle) has been upgraded to questionable for Friday's game vs. Orlando.

The Blazers had been ruling Nurk out a day in advance for the past few games, so this is a very promising step. Meyers Leonard (illness) isn't even on the injury report, so he'll be available, which will cut into the playing time of Zach Collins and Ed Davis regardless of Nurk's status. Check back after Friday's shootaround for another update.
Dec 14 - 3:37 PM

Markieff Morris (sore right hip) is listed as probable for Friday's game vs. the Clippers.

This comes from the game notes, however, which are rarely reliable. Wizards coach Scott Brooks said that Kieff was dealing with "discomfort in his ankle and groin," despite being listed out Wednesday with a hip injury, so there's a lot going on here. It doesn't sound too serious, given the 'probable' tag, but we'll know more after Friday's shootaround.
Dec 14 - 3:03 PM

Luc Mbah a Moute's MRI revealed no significant damage in his shoulder, and the Rockets are optimistic that he'll return in 2-3 weeks.

He was diagnosed with a dislocation, which has since been re-set, and he will be re-evaluated in one week. This is great news for the Rockets, since Mbah a Moute's defense is part of the reason they rank No. 6 in defensive efficiency. P.J. Tucker and Ryan Anderson stand to gain the most in his absence, but there are no clear-cut fantasy winners here. It shouldn't take long for Houston to establish an official timetable for Mbah a Moute's return.
Dec 14 - 2:57 PM

Hassan Whiteside (left knee bone bruise) won't travel with the Heat for Friday's game in Charlotte.

The good news is that Whiteside went through some on-court work on Thursday, and he's now two weeks into his initial 1-2 week timetable. Kelly Olynyk and Bam Adebayo will continue to split the center minutes on Friday, but we'll consider Whiteside questionable to return for Saturday's home game vs. the Clippers.
Dec 14 - 2:43 PM

Joe Johnson (wrist) has been cleared to play vs. Boston on Friday.

Rodney Hood (ankle) returned to action on Wednesday and Alec Burks has been playing well lately, so Johnson's minutes are likely to come at the expense of Jonas Jerebko. Johnson hasn't played since Oct. 30, of course, so we're not expecting him to log heavy playing time in his first game back.
Dec 14 - 2:15 PM

Aaron Gordon (concussion) returned to practice on Thursday.

This is a big step in Gordon's return from the concussion he suffered on Dec. 8, and it suggests he could return vs. the Blazers on Friday. He said that he felt good and had "no symptoms" on Monday, so the odds are good that he'll be cleared to play, but owners should double-check his status after Friday's shootaround.
Dec 14 - 2:12 PM

Robert Covington (lower back contusion) will play vs. the Thunder on Friday.

Richaun Holmes started in place of Covington on Tuesday, as the Sixers went big, but he'll return to a backup role vs. OKC. There's no suggestion of restrictions for Covington going forward, so make sure he's back in your active lineups.
Dec 14 - 2:07 PM

Draymond Green (shoulder) will not play on Thursday vs. the Mavericks.

Green wasn't spotted at the morning shootaround and was originally considered doubtful. The Warriors will have the next three days off before Monday's game vs. the Lakers, so hopefully the soreness in his shoulder subsides. Jordan Bell is a candidate for another start and is a strong streaming option vs. the Mavs. David West and Kevon Looney could be more involved as well.
Dec 14 - 1:51 PM

Jonathan Isaac (ankle) returned to practice on Thursday.

He's been out since Nov. 11, but the promising rookie should be back any day now. His status for Friday's game vs. the Blazers is still up in the air, but he does have a lot of stash appeal with the Magic banged up. He also has considerable upside, as he averaged 1.3 blocks in just 19.9 minutes per game.
Dec 14 - 1:44 PM

Lauri Markkanen (back) is questionable for Friday's game vs. the Bucks.

Coach Fred Hoiberg did say that the rookie is feeling better, so hopefully he's ready to return after a two-game absence. He's not going to take contact at Thursday's practice, so we'll have to see how he feels after the morning shootaround. With Nikola Mirotic playing really well, Markkanen's minutes could be in danger.
Dec 14 - 1:15 PM

Danilo Gallinari (left glute contusion) has been ruled out for Friday's game vs. the Wizards.

He's getting ruled out a full day before tip-off, but this isn't a surprise considering coach Doc Rivers was expecting him to miss additional time. Jamil Wilson could make another start in Gallinari's absence, but he's a poor fantasy option. Sam Dekker had 12 points, four rebounds, one assist and two triples in 26 minutes on Wednesday, so he's on the radar as a low-end streaming option.
