Pistons exercised contract options on Greg Monroe and Brandon Knight.

The two players are expected to lead the turnaround in the Motor City, and we especially like Monroe this year as a full-fledged breakout candidate for fantasy owners.

Caris LeVert said growing with D'Angelo Russell will be important for the them, the team and the organization.

Sadly, the two will have to grow together more than anticipated because of the sad news on Jeremy Lin. In the last five minutes on Wednesday, coach Kenny Atkinson only used one lineup: Russell, Caris LeVert, Allen Crabbe, DeMarre Carroll and Trevor Booker. While it's unclear who will get the starting job, both LeVert and Crabbe are expected to get more minutes and should be owned in standard leagues.

Coach Stan Van Gundy said he didn't go into Wednesday's game with a plan on using Eric Moreland over Boban Marjanovic.

In case you missed it, Boban was a DNP-CD against the Hornets while Moreland logged 12 minutes. Maybe it was because Dwight Howard played well against Boban in the preseason or maybe it's because SVG was scared to use him in pick-and-roll sets. For what it's worth, Kemba Walker leads all NBA players in pick-and-roll possessions including passes (Synergy), so clearly the Hornets were leaning on that play. Whatever the case, this is a big blow to Boban supporters and he'll be dropped all over the place with another DNP-CD on Friday. It's against the Knicks, so that would be even worse.

Jarell Martin is likely going to start for JaMychal Green (ankle).

It makes sense after Martin started the second half for the injured Martin. While starting should help Martin get minutes, perhaps the more interesting stat output should come from Brandan Wright. On top of the backup center minutes, Wright played 8.1 minutes next to Marc Gasol on Wednesday. If you're looking to make an add, Wright's per-minute output makes him a better add than Martin.

If Draymond Green (knee) can't play against the Pelicans on Friday, Jordan Bell is likely going to start.

What a difference 20 days makes. Back on Sept. 29, coach Steve Kerr said Bell would not be in the rotation to start the year. However, he was the first big off the bench on Tuesday, so now Kerr's "modern-day five" is likely to start across from Anthony Davis. Bell said he'll be looking to pass more as a four man, and he's also previously mentioned his motto is "WWDD" for "What would Draymond do?" Bell is only a speculative pickup for now, but seeing how he performs against AD and Boogie Cousins will be must-see TV for rookie-obbessed fans.
Oct 19 - 3:02 PM

Draymond Green (knee) is doubtful to play against the Pelicans on Friday.

The good news here is Green's MRI came back clean. Although, he is possibly going to miss multiple games due to this knee strain, but he did travel on the three-game road trip to New Orleans, Memphis and Dallas. If Green can't go, the Warriors are expected to start Jordan Bell, who was surprisingly the first big off the bench on Tuesday. Expect to see more minutes go to Nick Young, Pat McCaw and maybe Andre Iguodala.
Oct 19 - 2:57 PM

Myles Turner (sore neck) is questionable to play against the Blazers on Friday.

He looked fine in the game and after the game he talked a lot about leadership -- with a lot of neck movement -- so perhaps he just woke up with stiffness. For now, it does appear to be minor and we'd be surprised to see him not suit up. The Pacers were ridiculously fast with their incredible 130 offensive possessions on Wednesday, which helps explain why Turner busted out for 21 points, 14 boards and four blocks. He has a legit shot to be a first-round player this year.
Oct 19 - 2:50 PM

Kyle Kuzma will play minutes at small forward and power forward to start the season.

This is an expected move for the Lakers and he could even be the first man off the bench. If Luke Walton does keep a short bench, Kuzma could get minutes in the upper 20s out of the gate. He's worth owning in standard leagues and could be a nice DFS play today.
Oct 19 - 2:31 PM

Josh Hart (Achilles) will not play against the Clippers on Thursday.

This has been expected all week since Hart needed an MRI on his Achilles. He has bursitis, so this is more of a day-to-day thing than something that will require a lot of time off. That said, the Lakers won't be rushing him back. With him and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope out, Expect to see plenty of minutes going to Jordan Clarkson.
Oct 19 - 2:28 PM

Jason Smith (sprained right shoulder) is a game-time call on Friday vs. Detroit.

An MRI revealed no structural damage and he's day-to-day. He's not on your fantasy roster for a reason and the eventual return of Markieff Morris (hernia) limits Smith's fantasy appeal. If he misses Friday's contest, Kelly Oubre will likely be the big winner.
Oct 19 - 1:51 PM

Markieff Morris (hernia) participated in Thursday's non-contact practice.

Coach Scott Brooks said Morris is close to returning to full-contact practice and it sounds like he has a real shot to beat his original timetable that had him returning in mid-November. Once Morris is cleared to play, that would likely dampen the fantasy appeal of Kelly Oubre. Jason Smith (shoulder) would also lose minutes.
Oct 19 - 1:50 PM

Cavs Coach Tyronn Lue said he has to "do a better job" of getting Kevin Love involved in the offense a little more.

"When we're playing slow and we're not moving the basketball and we're not moving bodies, he really doesn't benefit," Lue said. "We've got to do a better job getting Kevin more involved." LeBron James made similar comments about Love, and the team seems committed on getting him going early and often. He's still adjusting to his new role at center and he had a quiet opening night with 15 points, 11 rebounds and one 3-pointer in 28 minutes, but the big lines are coming.
