Hornets coach Monty Williams said that Eric Gordon (knee) could assume a bench role to begin the season.

Williams doesn't want to push Gordon too hard too fast, and that's the right approach given his history of knee problems. "It might be beneficial to have him come off the bench," Williams said. This doesn't lock Gordon into a bench role for an extended period of time, but it's not exactly what owners wanted to hear. However, Williams did say that he was "hopeful" Gordon could play Wednesday, but his official status remains up in the air. Austin Rivers or Roger Mason could start at SG if Gordon is out or coming off the bench.

Jusuf Nurkic and Noah Vonleh will start vs. the Magic on Thursday.

Meyers Leonard and Ed Davis will shift to the bench and this is a fairly predictable move after Portland dealt Mason Plumlee to acquire Nurk before the All-Star break. He racked up 13 points, seven boards, three steals and one block in 21 minutes during his Blazers debut, and projects as a solid rest-of-season option in an expanded role for Portland.

Deron Williams plans to join the Cavs, according to the Associated Press.

He still has to clear waivers, but there are a ton of reports saying the Cavs will be signing the former All-Star. Williams played on Team USA with LeBron James, so those two are familiar playing next to each other despite not playing on the same NBA team. He will back up Kyrie Irving and could also see some minutes in two-PG lineups. Obviously his fantasy value takes a major hit.

Pelicans waive F Terrence Jones.

With the addition of DeMarcus Cousins, there just isn't going to be minutes for Jones in New Orleans. He should certainly receive some interest in the free agent market and some of the bad teams could claim him to give him minutes. Chances are his fantasy value drops on a new team, but he could still be worth stashing in deeper leagues to see where he winds up.
Feb 23 - 5:58 PM

Mavs waive G Deron Williams.

The Mavs do right by their point guard to allow him to join a contender. The Cavs look to be the heavy favorite to land the former All-Star guard and have him back up Kyrie Irving. When he was on the court, Williams was having a solid season, averaging 13.1 points, 6.9 assists and 1.6 treys in 29.3 minutes per game. His fantasy value will be dropping in a big way while Yogi Ferrell gets the keys to the offense going forward.
Feb 23 - 5:14 PM

Nets waive G Marcus Thornton.

The Nets picked him up on Wednesday night in the Bojan Bogdanovic, but the addition of K.J. McDaniels likely sealed Thornton may get some interest in the buyout market, but he's pretty low in the pecking order.

Jahlil Okafor wasn't traded on Thursday and he'll remain in Philly past the deadline.

Well, that's awkward. The Sixers dealt Nerlens Noel to Dallas but couldn't find a suitable offer for Okafor, who was one of the most glaring trade candidates this season -- Philly went so far as to sideline while conducting trade talks in recent weeks. Okafor has some fantasy appeal with Joel Embiid (knee) expected to miss at least four games, but Embiid's eventual return looms over Okafor's rest-of-season outlook.

Deron Williams is "possibly" receiving a buyout from the Mavs, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com.

According to The Vertical, the Cavs, Hawks and Jazz are expected to be interested -- David Aldridge adds that in the event of Williams being waived, "all signs point" to the Cavs acquiring him. Williams is not expected to ask for a buyout, but the team is expected to do it in order to get a look at rookie Yogi Ferrell. A lot of teams cleared out some salary to help them go after a guy like Deron, who almost certainly will be a backup wherever he goes. Ferrell should be owned in standard leagues.

The Suns are trading P.J. Tucker to the Raptors in exchange for Jared Sullinger and two second-round picks, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

The Raptors get their guy at the deadline buzzer and it didn't cost them any first-round picks, so this is a terrific pickup for general manager Masai Ujiri. There was some talk that the Raptors wanted Tucker to help guard LeBron James in the playoffs. He figures to take a few minutes away from Norman Powell and DeMarre Carroll on his new team. Also with Tucker gone, T.J. Warren should be looking at big minutes, assuming he can avoid too many defensive hiccups.

Atlanta has traded Mike Scott to the Suns for cash, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

The Hawks don't need Scott anymore with Ersan Ilysasova around. The Suns are under the salary cap, so it's basically just a salary dump here. He is not expected to take minutes away from a heating-up Marquese Chriss.
Feb 23 - 2:58 PM

Tyler Ennis has been traded to the Lakers for Marcelo Huertas, according to The Vertical.

The Rockets continue to shed some money to now get them under the cap. Ennis could get minutes once guys like Jose Calderon are bought out, but frankly he hasn't been very good.
Feb 23 - 2:54 PM

The Pacers have passed on trade offers for Paul George, and he will remain in Indiana after the trade deadline.
