Chase Budinger (knee surgery) is expected to be reexamined in "about a month."

Budinger's surgeon has told him that he'll be back by March, which would mark four months after surgery. His initial timetable was three to four months, so that outlook sounds about right. There is no reason to stash him.

Marcus Smart played well in his return to the lineup on Friday, scoring eight points with one rebound, four assists, one steal and two 3-pointers in 27 minutes.

It's not a huge line, but this is encouraging line. The triples and assists are two things his fantasy owners should be most concerned with because the steals are in the bag. As long as he can shoot the ball reasonably well, Smart could emerge as a must-start fantasy point guard. He should be owned in all leagues to see what happens.
Dec 19 - 11:15 PM

Derrick Favors went for 23 and 10 in Friday's road win over the Magic, hitting 9-of-14 shots with three assists and two blocks.

Favors put up a pedestrian line in his return from an ankle injury on Wednesday and he looked great tonight. He has been a top 40-50 value when on the floor this season.
Dec 19 - 11:14 PM

Shabazz Muhammad was excellent in his first start at shooting guard on Friday, scoring 26 points with five boards, five assists and two 3-pointers on 11-of-15 from the field.

The triples were a very nice surprise and he also had a career high in dimes. Muhammad played 38 minutes tonight and he's going to play in the mid-30s most nights going forward. He's not going to be this good, but he should be owned in all standard leagues.
Dec 19 - 10:48 PM

Kemba Walker was outstanding against the 76ers during an easy 109-91 win on Friday, scoring 30 points with four rebounds, five assists, one steal and three 3-pointers.

He made 13-of-23 from the field and is really starting to heat up. Over his last five, Walker averaged 24.0 points, 3.2 boards, 5.6 assists, 1.0 steals and 2.6 triples on 49.5 percent from the field. The buy-low window is just about closed.
Dec 19 - 10:40 PM

Robert Covington kept it going against the Hornets on Friday with 19 points, two rebounds, one assist, two blocks and six 3-pointers.

He's for real. Covington is lapping the field for pickup of the year in deep leagues. He is a perfect fit for the 76ers and is going to keep this up all year. There's a decent chance he flirts with top-40 value. Over his last four, he's averaged 19.0 points, 5.8 boards, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals, 1.0 blocks and 4.3 treys.
Dec 19 - 10:02 PM

Landry Fields received stitches to his head on Friday and will not return.

He had a scary fall and might have suffered a concussion. Fields was in the starting lineup for the Raptors, so they might need to mix it up. James Johnson replaced Fields at the time of the injury and would make the most sense. He's worth a look in standard leagues.
Dec 19 - 9:26 PM

Deron Williams suffered a strained right calf on Friday and will not return.

Williams has a litany of leg injuries and he might be getting an MRI to check on the severity of the strain. He also has history of calf strains, so he's a good bet to miss at least a couple games. Jarrett Jack is worth a look for short-term value.
Dec 19 - 8:30 PM

Darrell Arthur (leg) will not play on Friday night against the Clippers.

He has a lower leg strain and the injuries just keep coming for Arthur. He's played well, but he's going to be tough to own in most leagues. Kenneth Faried and J.J. Hickson will pick up some playing time.
Dec 19 - 8:09 PM

Joel Freeland will start against the Spurs on Friday.

Coach Terry Stotts is going to mix it up in the starting lineup and Thomas Robinson will come off the bench. Robinson might not play much and Stotts has yo-yo'd him in the lineup several times. Freeland is only worth a look in deep leagues.
Dec 19 - 8:02 PM

Ricky Rubio (ankle) is hoping to take on contact in two weeks.

He was hoping to play around Christmas, but it doesn't sound like that's going to happen. Rubio will likely take at least a week to progress from practice to games. In other words, he's probably looking to return in January.
Dec 19 - 7:21 PM

Shawne Williams will start Friday vs. the Wizards, sending Justin Hamilton to the bench.

Williams has been struggling lately, but he's a more effective player than Justin Hamilton and it'll be interesting to see how he fares returning to the starting unit. Chris Bosh (calf) is without a timetable to return, and Josh McRoberts (knee) could be done for the season, so the opportunity is there for Williams. He's worth a speculative add, but he has a tough matchup tonight vs. Washington.
