Updating a previous item, Steve Nash (leg) still can't run without pain and will be sidelined until "at least next week."

Nash did agility work on Monday and tried to do some jogging, but he was unable to complete it without experiencing pain. Nash will "probably" have an MRI exam on Friday for another update, and the Lakers will continue to wait for his return.

Rick Carlisle said that Dallas fans "should be excited" to see new addition Dennis Smith Jr. in action and that he intends to start the rookie this season.

Carlisle also said that he wants the Mavs to play at a faster pace this season, which is always a good thing in fantasy hoops and shouldn't be too tough to accomplish considering the Mavs were second to last in pace last season. Additionally, Carlisle said that he thinks Smith Jr. and Yogi Ferrell can play alongside each other, so it doesn't sound like Ferrell's playing time will negatively affect DFS's minutes. Smith Jr. is in a great spot for fantasy value and is worth gambling on towards the middle rounds on draft day.

Rick Carlisle said that "there's a good chance" Nerlens Noel will begin the season coming off the bench.

Carlisle added that he's already had this conversation with Noel and that Noel is willing to accept the bench role. Carlisle believes that the Mavs best chance of having a winning season would be to start Dirk Nowitzki at the five with Noel acting as his primary backup, which isn't the best news for Noel's fantasy outlook. However, if the Mavs aren't able to cobble together a winning season, it would make sense for them to bring Noel into the starting five to accelerate his development.

Suns GM Ryan McDonough said Tyler Ulis (ankle) is "completely healthy."

He had minor ankle surgery back in May, but he's been playing full-contact 5-on-5 for the past few weeks. The Suns weren't able to find a new home for Eric Bledsoe this summer, so Ulis will open the season as the backup PG which limits his upside. He should get more opportunities as the season progresses and there's still a good chance that Bledsoe is moved before the deadline.

Omer Asik (illness) still has no timetable for a return.

He's been battling a gastrointestinal infection since February and won't be with the Pelicans during training camp. With Cheick Diallo impressing during the offseason, he's likely earned some backup minutes behind DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis. As for Asik, he couldn't be any further off the fantasy radar.
Sep 25 - 1:46 PM

Nuggets coach Michael Malone said the point guard position is the only one up for grabs entering training camp.

"We're gonna let our point guards earn that job," Malone said. The coach also added that he's planning to use a nine-man rotation, so that likely means only two PGs will be in the rotation. Jamal Murray should be the favorite to start after his strong finish to the 2016-17 season and Jameer Nelson likely has the edge over Emmanuel Mudiay for the backup role for now. We'll be watching this position battle closely in camp this week.
Sep 25 - 1:35 PM

Suns GM Ryan McDonough said Alan Williams (knee) could miss "half the season or more."

He's undergoing surgery on his torn meniscus on Monday morning, so we should have a better idea of his timetable in a few days. The Suns re-signed Alex Len this week, so he will open the season as Tyson Chandler's backup. In addition to Len getting a bump with this report, McDonough said Marquese Chriss and Dragan Bender could be in the mix for some center minutes as well.

Bucks GM Jon Horst said there's no concern about Giannis Antetokounmpo's knee.

He admitted that there was an issue earlier in the offseason (the reason he didn't play for Greece), but added that he's fine now. Coach Jason Kidd also said that Antetokounmpo will be a full go in training camp. Still only 22, Giannis is a candidate to go No. 1 in a lot of fantasy drafts with the knee concerns behind him and should make a serious push for the MVP Award this season.
Sep 25 - 12:47 PM

Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue confirmed that Derrick Rose will open the season as the starting point guard.

The Cavaliers are expecting Isaiah Thomas (hip) back by January, so Rose could have a significant workload for the first half of the season. Rose is healthy after undergoing a left knee arthroscopy back in April and isn't expected to have any restrictions early on. He should have some low-end value for owners targeting points and assists, but he's not worth grabbing before the later rounds due to a lack of upside in steals and 3-pointers. He's not exactly durable either.
Sep 25 - 12:42 PM

Chandler Parsons (knee) will be a full participant in training camp.

Additionally, Parsons has been playing full-contact 5-on-5 and isn't expected to have any restrictions. His left knee limited him to 34 games last season and when he did play he looked like a shell of himself. If you're looking to take a flier on Parsons, you won't have to make your move until the later rounds.
Sep 25 - 12:19 PM

Isaiah Thomas (hip) is expected to make his Cavaliers debut by January.

Thomas and the Cavs have been dodging questions about his hip for weeks, but the PG has started on-court activities and we finally have an idea of his timetable. There are 36 games before the end of the calendar year, so Thomas could miss nearly half the season if this timetable holds up. His ADP should plummet following this report, while Derrick Rose should open the season as the starting PG.
Sep 25 - 12:09 PM

Joel Embiid (knee) said he doesn't think he will play in all 82 games this season.

Not that this is a surprise, but at least he's honest and realistic after saying he will play in all 82 earlier in the offseason. As for his knee, Embiid said he's had several scans and that everything looks "perfect." He's still not cleared for 5-on-5, but he chalked it up to the 76ers being cautious and said he could if needed. The good news is that he confirmed he's expecting to be ready for opening night.
