Wesley Matthews missed practice Friday after returning from a hip injury Thursday night.

Matthews was impressive Thursday with 20 points, three rebounds, four assists, one steal, one block and four 3-pointers. This could be just a maintenance day or the Blazers giving him a day off so as not to over-tax Matthews' hip. We'll leave him as active for now, but check back to see if his status for Saturday changes. Nolan Smith (illness), who would get a few extra minutes if Matthews sat, also missed practice Friday.

Duke SF Rodney Hood has declared for the NBA draft.

Hood joins fellow Blue Devil Jabari Parker in fleeing Coach K's program. But unlike Parker, Hood is merely a borderline lottery pick at best. In his first season at Duke after transferring from Mississippi State, Hood averaged 16.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists while showing excellent range (2.0 3-pointers per game on 42.0 percent shooting). He needs to prove he can guard NBA wings in order to raise his draft stock.

Thaddeus Young said it's "a possibility" that he'll ask management to trade him this summer.

Young has repeatedly said all he wants to do is win, and the Sixers are at least two years away from doing that. The 25-year-old is under contract for $9.1 million next season and then has a player option for $9.7 million in 2015-16. Given those reasonable cap hits and Young's unique ability to score without plays called for him, he'd attract plenty of attention on the trade market. Thadd averaged career-highs in points (17.9), assists (2.3), steals (2.1) and 3-pointers (1.1) this season.

Kentucky G/F James Young has declared for the NBA draft.

Young averaged 14.3 points and 4.3 rebounds as a freshman, shooting just 40.7 percent from the field. But he oozes athletic upside as an extremely long wing player that has extended range (34.9 percent 3-point shooting). At 6'7/202, Young is a candidate to go in the back part of the lottery.

The Bulls, Rockets, Lakers and Clippers are among the teams expected to pursue unrestricted free agent Carmelo Anthony.

The Knicks can offer Anthony a five-year, $129 contract. The max he can get from other teams is four years and $95 million. But the Knicks have almost no room to reshape their roster, so re-signing there would not give Anthony his best shot at his stated goal of winning. If he's serious about competing for a title, Melo will take a massive pay cut and sign with Chicago, which could field a starting five of Derrick Rose, Jimmy Butler, Anthony, Taj Gibson and Joakim Noah.

Al Horford (pectoral) is out for the entire preseason.

Fans were holding out hope that Horford could make a return if the Hawks upset the Pacers and advance to Round 2. It's not happening. Horford has torn each of his pectorals in the last three years and this tear is considered more severe. He's concentrating on getting healthy for 2014-15, where he'll be a risk/reward kind of fantasy play. Horford was averaging 18.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks on 56.7 percent shooting in the 29 games before his December injury.
Apr 18 - 9:32 AM

Andrew Bynum (knee) will not play against the Hawks in the first round of the playoffs.

This isn't a surprise and he hasn't seen game action since Mar. 15. Bynum played in just two games since the Pacers brought him on board and they've obviously swung and missed here. The team hasn't been getting much out of their center spot, so Ian Mahinmi could be an X-factor for their success in the postseason.

Duke F Jabari Parker has declared for the NBA Draft.

He did it in impressive fashion, too, posting a column and video through Sports Illustrated with the news. He's got the potential to be the No. 1 pick in the draft and is one of just a few college players these days who is already a household name. And all that talk about him returning to school next year? Much ado about nothing.

Jordan Crawford scored a career-high 41 points along with five rebounds, two assists and a steal in Wednesday's win over the Nuggets.

You could see him having a big game with the Warriors resting the regulars, but this was better than any of us could have imagined. Harrison Barnes chipped in with 30, while Randy Foye scored 32 and had 11 assists for the Nuggets in the loss. The Warriors are healthy, with the exception of Andrew Bogut, and ready to take on the Clippers in Round 1 of the playoffs. And that, our friends, is a wrap on the 2013-14 regular season.
Apr 17 - 1:37 AM

Archie Goodwin busted out for a career-high 29 points vs. the Kings on Wednesday, adding four boards, one assist, two steals and one 3-pointer on 11-of-13 from the field in 31 minutes.

He made a huge splash in Las Vegas Summer League, but he was extremely quiet until tonight. If not for Gerald Green making a strong case for Most Improved Player, we might have seen more of Goodwin. He's a plus defender and showed tonight that he can really get to the rim. His jumper needs work and he's unlikely to be a target in fantasy drafts next season.
Apr 17 - 1:23 AM

Ben McLemore ended his season with a bang on Wednesday during a 104-99 loss to the Suns, scoring a career-high 31 points with five boards, five assists, one steal and three 3-pointers in 42 minutes.

He scored 19 points on Sunday and figured out how to get his own shot to close the season. McLemore's off-the-ball game needed some work throughout the year and his isolation game was non-existent for much of the season, but he showed some promise. Still, the sample size is too small to make him a target in drafts next season.
Apr 17 - 1:16 AM

Amir Johnson looked to suffer an ankle injury against the Knicks on Wednesday.

There has been no word from the team just yet, but he did play only 15 minutes after he seemed a bit hobbled. Johnson scored just two points with four boards, one assist and two turnovers in a loss. He'll need the two days off as the Raptors head into the playoffs. They'll face the Nets this weekend and if he's out, Patrick Patterson will take over at PF.
