Byron Mullens was benched against the Warriors on Friday after going hitless on six shot attempts in 22 minutes.

Mullens has been a roller coaster ride all season and we wouldn't blame owners if they got off the ride this time and threw up. Hakim Warrick was brought off the bench in his place to provide energy and got positive marks after the game from Mike Dunlap, finishing with nine points on 3-of-8 shooting, six rebounds, two assists, and a steal. This is a probably case of Mullens playing his way out of the game tonight rather than known-quantity Warrick exerting his will. A bounce-back outing isn't out of the question and simply benching him is probably the best bet.

Carmelo Anthony does not intend to opt out of his current contract with the Thunder, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

He has a $28 million player option, and the market for Melo has shrunk significantly over the last 12 months. After losing minutes to guys like Jerami Grant, it's fair to say the Thunder probably would like for him to opt out to allow them to go after another player. This would also impact the likelihood Paul George can return. Anthony has until Saturday night to decide, so we'll find out this weekend.

Coach Igor Kokoskov said Elie Okobo can be an "elite point guard" in the NBA.

Okobo was a little sloppy with the ball in France and some thought he might be better on the wing, but the Suns sound fully committed he'll be at the one. General manager Ryan McDonough said the Suns had Elie Okobo "a lot higher than 31." Kokoskov said Okobo's speed jumped out when they were scouting him, which also ties into how the Suns want to push the pace next season. The team also said he vastly improved over the last six months, so Okobo is a name to remember this summer.

Coach Igor Kokoskov said he thinks Deandre Ayton can be an "elite defender" in the NBA.

Ayton was also asked about Joel Embiid's tweet saying the rookie doesn't play defense, but Ayton said he didn't think about responding to it. Kokoskov talked about energy a bunch and said Ayton is a talent that he hasn't seen in decades. The coach said he wants him to be a rim protector and that he has versatility in space. Ayton himself said the Suns can "run all day" with Devin Booker and the pace, so maybe the Suns can improve on their 30th ranked offense. He's in a fantastic system for his skillset, so Ayton comes in with sky-high upside.

Coach Brett Brown said the 76ers are taking an "elementary" approach to reclaim Markelle Fultz's shot.

"When you look what's most important, [and] what thing needs the most work, it's [his shot]," Brown said. The coach hinted that Fultz may not play in summer league because the team really wants to get his shot back. Fultz's rookie season was a complete disaster, but Brown still believes in his No. 1 pick and has already went to Los Angeles to check on him.

Coach Rick Carlisle suggested he is open to playing Luka Doncic at the four in some matchups.

"Him playing four is gonna be a problem for teams to match up with," Carlisle said. Oh boy. Doncic absolutely has the height to guard small-ball fours at 6'8", and the main concern with him is weight gain at 230 pounds. If Doncic plays the four, that means he has four possible avenues for minutes on a team without much depth on the wing, so his floor and ceiling get a noteworthy bump with this quote. He's unlike any prospect we've ever seen and he justifiably will cost a pretty penny in draft season.

Coach David Fizdale said he could see Kevin Knox as a starter for the Knicks.

"Yeah, I’m looking at our roster right now, absolutely," Fizdale said about Knox starting. The coach did mention that Knox could be an option at the three because the Knicks don't have enough size at that position. Plus, they're also going to be really thin at the four, so Knox finds himself in an excellent spot to see minutes from day one. He's on the radar as a late-round pick in fantasy.

Coach David Fizdale indicated that Courtney Lee and Tim Hardaway Jr. are too small to start as the shooting guard and small forward combo.

"They’ve both 6-6, 6-5, and he’s going to have to guard LeBron [James]," Fizdale said. Everyone knows Fizdale loves his defense, and he said he doesn't know who he is going to start at the three yet. Hardaway Jr. shouldn't really be affected by this quote because of all the money the Knicks dumped on him, but Lee may see a drop in playing time.

Luka Doncic is unlikely to play in the Las Vegas summer league.

As disappointing as this news is for the summer-league lifers, it's kind of expected. The Mavs don't want to overwork Doncic after his lengthy run in EuroLeague and the ACB. The Mavs obviously believe in Doncic after they threw in a top-five protected pick to move up two spots and he's not your typical rookie, so he should have ample opportunity on his new team. Doncic is worth a pick near 50 in redrafts and maybe the top 30 in dynasty.

The Hawks selected Kevin Huerter with the 19th pick on Thursday.

He underwent surgery to repair torn ligaments in his right hand last week, and is expected to make a full recovery before camp. It’s all about shooting for the 6’7" shooting guard with his 41.7 3P% to help him get to a pristine 64.0 TS%. Huerter averaged 14.8 points, 5.0 boards, 3.4 assists, 0.7 blocks and 0.6 treys as he enters the NBA at almost the perfect time. The Maryland product also posted a 38-inch max vert at the combine with some of the best numbers overall in the strength and agility drills, and was one of the best shooters at the combine, as well. He is perhaps in the best position to get minutes among non-lottery players with the Hawks set for a rebuild, especially if Kent Bazemore is traded.

The Bucks have selected Donte DiVincenzo with the 17th overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft.

As 2018 started, there was almost no chance that DiVincenzo was going to leave Villanova early. However, he tore it up in the tournament to earn Most Outstanding Player honors on his title-winning squad. The 6’5" guard projects as a bench scorer, and he showed off at the combine with the top-ranked max vert at 42 inches (tied Josh Okogie). It’s a little risky to go after a guy that went off late in the year with guys like Malachi Richardson flopping after a tourney run, but DiVincenzo was efficient all season at 60.8 TS% and doesn’t look like a flash in the pan.

The Denver Nuggets have selected Michael Porter Jr. with the 14th overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft.

Porter Jr.'s long wait finally ends as the Nuggets scoop him up with the final pick in the lottery. A disappointing turn of events for Porter, as some mocks had projected him as high as No. 2. Injuries are the name of the game with MPJ, and some NBA people believe he could need a redshirt year, according to Jonathan Givony of ESPN.com. Porter Jr. needed back surgery before last season to keep him to just 53 total minutes at Missouri, and he had a recent hip flare up this month to cause him to delay some pre-draft evaluations. Of course, he did say the injury news was "exaggerated a lot" earlier this week. Injury issues aside, Porter changed his diet to vegan and is one of the biggest lottery wings in the past decade at 6’10" with a seven-foot wingspan. MPJ has compared himself to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant, so he has set some awfully high expectations for himself.
