Dwight Howard said he has had no setbacks as he recovers from offseason back surgery.

Kobe Bryant spoke for Howard, saying ""it’s been frustrating for him because of the nature of the injury and trying to come back and meet the expectations we all have for him. It's tough to deal with that when you're not physically the same player that you were." Originally, Howard wasn't even expected to play until January, so hopefully for both fantasy owners and the Lakers, the big man will soon begin to resemble the player he was in Orlando.

Jaylen Brown put on a show with a career-high 25 points in Tuesday's loss to Cleveland.

Brown started at shooting guard, but shifted to small forward when Gordon Hayward left the game with a gruesome leg injury. He not only played great defense on LeBron, but he was attacking the rim relentlessly and his athleticism helped him get a lot of easy looks in transition including some monster dunks. He finished 11-of-23 from the field and 1-of-2 from the line with six rebounds, three steals and two triples (on nine attempts) in 40 minutes. He's looking at heavy minutes this season and proved tonight that he was the worth the gamble in the later rounds. If he's on the wire, change that.
Oct 17 - 11:36 PM

Kyrie Irving scored 22 points in his return to Cleveland on Tuesday, adding 10 assists, four rebounds, three steals and four 3-pointers in 39 minutes.

Irving hit 8-of-17 shots and 2-of-2 from the line, but posted a usage rate of just 21.5. That's likely to go way up with Gordon Hayward (ankle, leg) potentially out for the season, so that's not a concern moving forward. As long as Irving can stay healthy, expect him to flirt with first-round numbers in 9-category leagues .
Oct 17 - 11:28 PM

Marcus Smart started the second half of Tuesday's 102-99 loss to Cleveland and stuffed the boxscore with 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, two blocks and two turnovers.

He missed all four of his 3-pointers and was 0-of-9 from the field in the first half, but he came to play in the second half. Smart also showed off an array of post moves and toasted Kyle Korver on a couple of possessions. His field goal percentage (5-of-16 tonight) has always been his biggest weakness, but he did show off an improved jumper in the preseason and he's way more explosive after losing about 20 pounds over the summer. With Gordon Hayward (ankle, leg) looking at a potentially season-ending injury, Smart is locked into big minutes and should be owned in most leagues.
Oct 17 - 11:22 PM

Dwyane Wade was held to eight points on 3-of-10 shooting in Tuesday's season-opening win over Boston.

He added three assists, one rebound, one block and four turnovers in 29 minutes. The numbers don't tell the whole story, as Wade still looked spry at the age of 35. The Cavaliers used him as the starting SG and the backup PG, so he should have some decent value. The only concern is that the Cavs may monitor his workload throughout the season and that includes maintenance days -- the eventual return of Isaiah Thomas (hip) will hurt him too.
Oct 17 - 11:02 PM

Derrick Rose shot just 5-of-14 from the field in his Cavaliers debut vs. Boston on Tuesday, finishing with 14 points, four rebounds, two assists, one triple and two turnovers in 30 minutes.

Coming off yet another knee surgery, Rose still showed some explosion, but his shot selection was poor and his defense wasn't great either. To be fair, he's still adjusting to his new teammates and did have some positive moments as well. Rose's upside obviously isn't great and he was used off the ball a lot, so treat him like a low-end guard in 9-category leagues until Isaiah Thomas (hip) returns around the new year.
Oct 17 - 10:49 PM

LeBron James (ankle) looked terrific in Tuesday's 102-99 win over Boston, scoring 29 points (12-of-19 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs) with 16 rebounds, nine assists, two blocks, one triple and four turnovers in 41 minutes.

All the concerns about his ankle went out the window in the opening minute when LeBron swatted Jayson Tatum's first shot attempt. He'll be 33 in December, but LeBron hasn't lost a step and carried his team down the stretch, scoring 13 of his 29 points in the final quarter. His fantasy owners may have to worry about some maintenance days later on, but he'll be a top-10 fantasy option every time he's active.
Oct 17 - 10:38 PM

Zach Randolph (oral surgery) is questionable to play on Wednesday vs. Houston.

The Kings don't have great depth at power forward, so if Z-Bo is unable to play we can expect to see a lot of second-year forward Skal Labissiere. Kosta Koufos could also slide over to the four which would open up more minutes for Wille Cauley-Stein. We should have another update after Wednesday's morning shootaround.
Oct 17 - 9:13 PM

Bogdan Bogdanovic (ankle) has been ruled out of Wednesday's game vs. Houston.

He's been dealing with a right ankle sprain for a few days, though he's listed as day-to-day moving forward. The Kings rotation still isn't set in stone, but we can expect to see more of Buddy Hield, Garrett Temple and maybe Justin Jackson until Bogdanovic is cleared to play.
Oct 17 - 9:10 PM

Andre Iguodala (back strain) is expected to play on Friday vs. the Grizzlies.

He has already been ruled out of Tuesday's season opener vs. Houston after tweaking his back in the weight room, but the injury is very minor and the Warriors are just being cautious. There are no good pickups in most fantasy leagues, but Patrick McCaw and Nick Young may get a short-term boost Tuesday.
Oct 17 - 9:04 PM

Gordon Hayward has a dislocated left ankle and a fractured tibia.

This is all we know at this point and he's still being evaluated, but he'll likely need surgery. We haven't heard anything in regards to a timetable, but there's a very good chance that his season is over. His fantasy owners should sit tight until we have more clarity. Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown are looking at heavy minutes on the wings moving forward, while Terry Rozier and rookie Semi Ojeleye should be more involved as well.
Oct 17 - 8:57 PM

Updating a previous report, Nikola Mirotic has two broken bones in his face and may need surgery.

He was also diagnosed with a concussion, but he has been released from the hospital. According to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, the early estimate for his timetable is a few weeks. With Bobby Portis likely to be suspended, rookie Lauri Markkanen could be looking at a significant workload and is worth picking up in standard leagues.
