Jazz recalled G Kevin Murphy from the D-League.

After six weeks in the minors, Murphy is back. He'll provide some depth with Mo Williams (thumb) out a couple months and Marvin Williams (knee) out at least three games.

Blake Griffin (back) said he has been working on corner 3-pointers this summer.

Surprisingly, Blake was very good at corner treys last season, making 8-of-18 (44.4 percent). Griffin's offensive game really came on last season and he was still able to take 48 percent of his shots at the rim, which explains his 52.8 percent from the field. On top of that, he shot 74 percent from the line after the break. He is over his back injury and is worth a look at the end of the first round.

JaVale McGee (leg) and J.J. Hickson (knee) are expected to participate in some of practice on Wednesday.

Coach Brian Shaw said his center spot is a competition with Timofey Mozgov. Shaw said Mozgov has the edge on offense and McGee has the edge on defense. McGee didn't get much run in his brief action in 2013-14, but his upside in blocks makes him someone to watch at camp.

Solomon Hill joined George Hill, Rodney Stuckey, David West and Roy Hibbert in part of Tuesday's practice.

C.J. Miles (calf) missed part of practice today, so this isn't a concrete report. However, Hill seems to be the favorite for minutes at small forward this season. He has a decent 3-point shot and made 39 percent from beyond the arc in each of his last two seasons at Arizona. If he can capitalize on his opportunity, Hill is a dark horse for production in his sophomore season and is a possible sleeper in standard formats.

Chris Copeland has been moved to small forward full time.

It's a move based on the fallout of Paul George's (leg) injury. Copeland played an overwhelming amount of his playing time at power forward with the Pacers, but he has some range and his game can translate to the three. If Solomon Hill flops, Copeland could emerge as an asset in standard leagues.

DeMarcus Cousins' goal this season is to have no more than five technical fouls, according to a picture posted by teammate Reggie Evans.

DMC tied for the league lead with 16 techs last season, and during the 2013-14 season he had a league-high 17 technicals, four ejections and three flagrant fouls. He was focused and effective with Team USA this summer and may finally be turning the corner, maturity-wise, which makes him an even more appealing fantasy option in the latter half of the first round.

Rockets coach Kevin McHale said that the PF position is "open for competition," citing the need for more rebounding and physical defense.

"We had two of the top rebounders in the league last year with Omer [Asik] and Dwight [Howard] and we were still like 20th in rebounding. What does that say about the other guys? Not much," McHale said. Jones will need to fend off Donatas Motiejunas during training camp, but he started 71 games last year and is the favorite to do so again this season. In other news, the Rockets intend to pick up Jones' $2.5 million fourth-year contract option, which is an easy decision, but they won't do so until the Oct. 31 deadline.

Kobe Bryant "looked good and said he felt great" during Tuesday's practice, according to coach Byron Scott.

Kobe is ready to go for the Lakers' season opener, and Scott said recently that he optimistically expects Bryant to play in all 82 games while averaging 23-24 points. The 18-year veteran is an obvious injury risk after playing in just six games last season, but his elite upside has him going in the third round of most fantasy drafts.
Sep 30 - 5:31 PM

Jeff Green and Gerald Wallace may earn minutes at PF early in the season, according to Celtics coach Brad Stevens.

Green reportedly got stronger this season and aims to be a leader for Boston, but fantasy owners would settle for an improvement on last year's lousy 41.2 percent shooting. The possibility that he and Wallace might play some PF spells trouble for Brandon Bass, especially if Jared Sullinger is starting at PF on opening night.
Sep 30 - 5:13 PM

Jameer Nelson wore a white jersey during the Mavericks' first practice on Tuesday, suggesting that he'll start at PG ahead of Raymond Felton and Devin Harris.

Felton will open the season with a four-game suspension and Harris is better suited as a backup combo guard, which basically hands the job to Nelson by default. "He’s just got a grit and toughness about him that we really need on this team this year," said Carlisle, who described Nelson as a "natural leader." As a starting PG he'd be a decent source of assists and 3-pointers, making him worth a look in the final rounds.

James Harden told reporters on Tuesday, "I know at times my defense is pretty bad."

Admitting you have a problem is the first step, and Harden vowed to improve on the defensive end of the court. We'll believe it when we see it, as we're too used to seeing Harden drift fecklessly around on defense. The good news is that his shortcomings don't prevent him from being a solid top-6 fantasy pick in nearly all formats.

Lakers rookie Julius Randle said on Monday that he's prepared to come off the bench behind Carlos Boozer on opening night.

"[Boozer] deserves what he gets because he's put in the time and he's been successful," Randle said. "We're both going to be on the floor, whoever starts or not; that's not really my focus or worry." Randle is 19 years old and he's sure to have some growing pains in the NBA, making him a more appealing fantasy target after the All-Star break.
