Pau Gasol (concussion) has not yet been cleared to play by the NBA, but he will be re-examined on Friday.

Pau has shown "improvement" and there's still a chance he could be cleared to play the Thunder, but it's not looking promising -- the league has an appropriately stern protocol regarding concussions. Check back on Friday for an update. In the meantime, start thinking about your lineup alternatives.

Pau Gasol's contract with the Bulls is worth approximately $22 million over three years.

There's no word yet on whether the deal includes team or player options, but either way this is a solid value for Chicago. Gasol should start alongside Joakim Noah with Taj Gibson playing his typical sixth-man role, and it will be interesting to see whether coach Tom Thibodeau sticks with Gasol to close games or subs him out for his usual end-game frontcourt of Noah and Gibson.

Doug McDermott needed just 12 shots from the field to score 31 points vs. the Nuggets on Sunday, adding one rebound, one assist, one block and five 3-pointers.

He made all 12 shots from the line and made 7-of-12 from the field for a spectacular true shooting percentage of 89.7 percent. The Bulls have an absolutely loaded front line with the additions of Pau Gasol and Nikola Mirotic. McDermott is really going to have be able to play both forwards spots to get consistent minutes.

Updating a previous report, the Pistons and free agent Caron Butler have agreed to terms on a two-year deal worth about $9 million.

The second year is a team option. Detroit's new president/coach Stan Van Gundy isn't messing around in free agency, as all four of his signings have been for guards and swingmen who can stretch the court to the 3-point line. CB notched 10.5 points per game last year with 45.8 percent of his shot attempts coming from downtown, but the 12-year veteran is strictly a specialist in fantasy leagues. His signing also leaves the Pistons with a glut at SG/SF and it's increasingly clear that either Josh Smith or Greg Monroe will have to be jettisoned before long.
Jul 13 - 9:40 PM

Free agent D.J. Augustin will sign with the Pistons on a two-year deal worth $6 million, according to TNT's David Aldridge.

The free agent market for PGs is thinning out quickly, as guys like Kirk Hinrich, Mario Chalmers, Brian Roberts and Augustin all agreed to terms on Sunday. Detroit already has Will Bynum and Peyton Siva on their roster behind starter Brandon Jennings, and they're stocked with SGs, so it's hard to envision Augustin recapturing the career-high 14.9 points per game he averaged with Chicago last season. Stan Van Gundy came into free agency with a priority on shooting, particularly from the beyond the arc, and he's splurged on deals for Jodie Meeks, Cartier Martin and Augustin.

Dennis Schroder was on fire Sunday, scoring 30 points with four rebounds, four assists, six fouls, eight turnovers and three 3-pointers on 9-of-14 shooting.

We guess it was a good day for Germany today. Schroder didn't play well in the opener, scoring just eight points on 2-of-13 shooting, so the law of averages had a say in this one. He was phenomenal as one of the best players to watch in summer league last year and we'll see if he can parlay another big game to earn minutes next season.
Jul 13 - 9:21 PM

Updating a previous report, Chris Andersen and the Heat have reportedly agreed on a multi-year contract.

Pat Riley lost LeBron James in free agency but he's done an admirable job keeping the rest of his team's core intact, while adding Josh McRoberts and Luol Deng to fill out the roster. Birdman was also pursued by the Cavaliers but the 36-year-old opted to remain in South Beach as Miami tries to claw their way back to the NBA Finals.
Jul 13 - 8:20 PM

Noah Vonleh bounced back from his horrific debut with a 10-point, 18-board game on Sunday, adding four turnovers, eight fouls and one 3-pointer on 3-of-10 shooting.

He was excellent in the post and recognized the double-teams quickly. Vonleh also showed some touch and the Hornets clearly want him to be able to succeed away from the basket. Obviously, the rookie was phenomenal on the glass and pulled down a lot of hustle boards. This is the Vonleh we were expecting, so we'll see what he has in store vs. the Knicks on Monday.
Jul 13 - 8:03 PM

Julius Randle played 21 minutes in his professional debut on Sunday, scoring 10 points with two rebounds, three fouls and two turnovers on 4-of-9 from the field.

He signed his contract just before the game and wasn't even on the team bus. In his post-game interview, Randle said today was his first 5-on-5 since the NCAA National Championship Game and he played "decent." The rookie had some nice post moves and was even able to beat his man off the dribble. On the defensive side, he was doing a lot of switching and was very active. He's still probably not 100 percent, but there is a lot to like here. He's certainly worth drafting near the end of a standard-league draft.
Jul 13 - 6:45 PM

Nikola Mirotic will sign a three-year, $17 million deal with the Bulls now that he has secured a buyout from Real Madrid in Spain.

"I am very happy and excited to announce that next season I will be playing with the [Bulls]," he wrote on Sunday. "Today I fulfill a dream." The 23-year-old power forward has enormous potential, as his lucrative rookie contract will attest, but he faces a definite learning curve in the NBA. Tom Thibodeau will bring him along slowly in the Bulls frontcourt, which already features Joakim Noah, Pau Gasol and Taj Gibson, and fantasy owners should avoid him on draft day.
Jul 13 - 6:33 PM

Free agent PG Mario Chalmers will re-sign with the Heat on a two-year contract.

"Proud to say I'm back [with] the Heat," he wrote on Twitter. "Heat nation we still here." Details of his contract haven't been disclosed, but Chalmers slots in as Miami's default starting PG with Norris Cole and Shabazz Napier backing up the position.
Jul 13 - 6:21 PM

The Rockets have decided not to match the Mavericks' three-year, $46 million offer sheet for Chandler Parsons.

The two teams are discussing a potential sign-and-trade which would create a traded-player exception for Houston, but either way Parsons will start at SF for the Mavericks next season. He gives Dallas a very intriguing starting lineup of Raymond Felton, Monta Ellis, Parsons, Dirk Nowitzki and Tyson Chandler, and there's still a chance that Dallas will upgrade their PG situation before opening night. The Rockets' tempo was ideal for fantasy purposes, but Chandler has shown that he can score in transition or in the half-court, with or without the ball, and he should fare well as a top option alongside Dirk and Monta in Dallas.
