Paul Pierce scored 26 points on 10-of-20 shooting (including three treys) with seven rebounds and eight assists in the Celtics' overtime win over the Jazz on Monday.

Pierce has hit 45.8 percent of his shots over the past five games and it looks like he and his teammates have started to gel after the Rajon Rondo injury. Kevin Garnett added 13 points, 10 boards, a steal and a block in the win.

Brook Lopez (back) returned to practice on Monday.

This is significant with Lopez not having practiced since early December. It's not clear what Lopez's timetable to return to action might be, but a full contact practice is a great first step. Mason Plumlee has been thriving of late without Lopez, but Bro-Lo will send Plums back to the bench when he returns.

James Harden (hamstring) and Dwight Howard (shoulder) are both probable to play on Monday against the Blazers.

Although both are dealing with a nagging concern, the two stars will be out there in a big game against Portland. Harden said he planned to play, so the probable designation is just a formality. Harden and Howard's owners can feel good about putting them in the lineup.
Dec 22 - 12:23 PM

Derrick Rose (illness) is expected to play on Monday against the Raptors.

Rose went through all of shootaround, so unless something unforeseen happens before tipoff (which is always a possibility with Rose), he should be back out there in his usual starting role. Kirk Hinrich will shift back to the bench so long as Rose plays as expected.
Dec 22 - 12:16 PM

Ty Lawson (back) is a game-time decision for Monday's game against the Hornets.

Lawson appearing as a game-time call is certainly a surprise, and Nate Robinson would draw the start at point guard if Lawson is unable to suit up. Owners will need to check back for an update prior to tipoff as it sounds like the call will be made shortly before tipoff.

Pistons waive F Josh Smith.

It's a stunning move from the Pistons, and an admission that the free-agent signing never made sense to begin with when the move was made. Still owed $27 million after this season, Detroit will use the stretch provision to remove Smith from the roster. When Stan Van Gundy said the Pistons were going to prioritize the future, he wasn't kidding. Greg Monroe should become the starting power forward in Detroit for now, but it doesn't seem like the Pistons are done making moves. The Kings, Clippers, Rockets and Mavericks are expected to have interest when Smith clears waivers.
Dec 22 - 11:55 AM

Al Jefferson (groin) is listed as probable for Monday against the Nuggets.

Big Al tweaked his groin in Saturday's win over the Jazz, but he finished with a double-double, and the fact that he's being called probable with so much time before tipoff is a great sign that it's nothing serious.
Dec 22 - 11:24 AM

DeMar DeRozan (groin) is not expected to return during the Raptors upcoming six-game road trip.

Ouch. The Raptors start their road trip on Monday in Chicago, and it doesn't conclude until January 4 in Phoenix. DeRozan last played on November 26, so this absence would push his total time missed to over a month. Kyle Lowry will continue to shoulder the heaviest load for the Raptors, with guys like Terrence Ross, Greivis Vasquez, Patrick Patterson and James Johnson also stepping up while DeRozan remains sidelined.
Dec 22 - 9:43 AM

Stan Van Gundy said he's going to prioritize the Pistons' future going forward.

Andre Drummond, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and rookie Spencer Dinwiddie are expected to be focal points as the team evaluates its players. The Pistons are expected to feed Drummond more on the offensive end to see what he can do. "I wouldn't say that's right now our best choice coming down the floor in a game," Van Gundy said. "Well, I think we've got to shift back to giving him that stuff so that he develops, so we don't have him next year at the same place he is now." Drummond has had his best month of the season in December with averages of 15.0 points, 13.7 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 2.0 blocks on 52.6 percent shooting.

Kobe Bryant admitted after Sunday's game that he's fatigued and may soon miss a game to rest, saying, "I don't have much of a choice if [my] body is feeling the way it's feeling right now."

The Lakers can't feasibly contend for a playoff spot out West, and Kobe is owed a guaranteed $25 million next year, so a few precautionary DNPs seem inevitable as the season progresses. He shot 8-of-30 from the field and committed nine turnovers in a seven-point loss on Sunday and Lakers coach Byron Scott agreed that L.A.'s resident superstar might need some rest. We'll keep a close eye on Kobe's status for games on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday this week.
Dec 22 - 2:12 AM

Mo Williams torched the Pacers for 24 points and 10 assists in Sunday's road loss, making 10-of-16 shots with two 3-pointers, two rebounds and three turnovers.

He did his damage in 32 minutes off the bench and should have a clear path to fantasy value until Ricky Rubio returns from his severely sprained ankle. With Rubio unable to practice and no clear return date in sight, owners should roll with Williams into the New Year.
Dec 21 - 10:35 PM

Zach LaVine's downward trajectory continued on Sunday with nine points, one rebound, two assists and one steal in 16 minutes vs. the Pacers.

He started the game but quickly ceded the court to Mo Williams, who finished with a team-high 24 points off the bench. A healthy Williams is enough reason to avoid LaVine, whose outlook should get even bleaker with Ricky Rubio (ankle) targeting a January return.
