Bradley Beal (left ankle) is doubtful to face the Lakers on Friday.

The Wizards listed Beal day-to-day the last time he turned his ankle and he missed six games. It looks like they'll be handling it in a similar fashion this time around and we're not expecting to see Beal for a handful of games. Trevor Ariza makes the strongest case as a pickup with Garrett Temple also deserving some looks in deeper leagues. If you are in the fantasy playoffs and keeping Beal on your roster is going to significantly hurt you, cutting him is definitely an option

Wesley Matthews hit seven 3-points in the Blazers' 114-93 win over the Sixers on Friday.

Matthews finished with 25 points on 9-of-18 shooting to go with a steal in an easy win. He's been a top-50 play this season and is hitting just under three treys per game. Damian Lillard also took advantage of the matchup with 28 points, three treys, five boards, nine assists and a 7-of-7 mark from the line, but Terry Stotts will probably grill him over the seven turnovers against a bad opponent.
Dec 27 - 4:52 AM

Tony Wroten scored 22 points off the bench on Friday, hitting 7-of-13 shots (1-of-4 3PTs, 7-of-9 FTs) with four rebounds, four assists and two steals in 27 minutes.

Wroten won't shoot it this well on most nights and he has had a hard time staying on the court. He could be worth a look in 8-cat leagues but the emergence of K.J. McDaniels and Robert Covington complicates what was once an open season for Wroten hucking up shots. Hollis Thompson was also out tonight, giving some minutes to the rest of the rotation.

Kenneth Faried exploded in the Nuggets' 106-102 win over the Wolves on Friday, scoring 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting with a career-high 25 rebounds and three assists.

It looks like the big talk with Brian Shaw is paying off and we're finally off the hook for telling you guys to hold on all that time (we think). A happy and engaged Faried is a completely different player than the one we've seen in the beginning of the past two seasons.
Dec 27 - 4:33 AM

Charlie Villanueva continued his improbable run as Mavs' backup big man on Friday, scoring 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting (including three treys) with three rebounds and four blocks.

Villanueva was fatigued by the minutes and he has three very solid games under his belt. We don't know if this can continue but he's the only real backup big that they have that can do anything offensively. He can't keep his current mid-round production from the last week up, but deep league owners can certainly speculate on his value and standard league owners (especially in 9-cat) may want to start giving him a look.
Dec 27 - 3:57 AM

James Harden just missed a massive triple-double in Friday's overtime win over the Grizzlies, scoring 32 points on 10-of-17 shooting (2-of-4 3PTs, 10-of-11 FTs) with eight rebounds, 10 assists and three blocks.

Harden pulls into a dead heat with Anthony Davis for the No. 1 rank in 8-cat leagues with the effort, though in 9-cat league that title is still held by Davis and it's not close.
Dec 27 - 2:26 AM

Josh Smith led the Rockets in field goal attempts with 21 in his Rockets debut on Friday, and he hit just nine of them to finish with 21 points, eight boards and three assists.

The jokes just write themselves and he was more or less a positive in this game, but as usual he missed both of his 3-point attempts and unlike normal he hit all three free throws without a steal or block in his 32 minutes. We learned tonight that Terrence Jones is going to be out at least a month, making this a two-man timeshare at the power forward position. Smith has been terrible in standard leagues because of his shooting and turnovers, but may be forced by new circumstances to reel himself in. He's well worth a speculative add if he has been dropped but there are no guarantees that he can change his stripes in his 11th season.
Dec 27 - 2:18 AM

Jared Dudley tied an NBA season best shooting performance (Jarrett Jack) with 10-of-10 makes from the field, finishing with a season-high 24 points, four threes, four boards, two assists and a season-high four steals to boot.

Dudley logged 24 minutes off the bench and this has fluke written all over it. The Bucks just had a players only meeting and perhaps that boosted the veterans tonight, but the best we can say about Dudley is that he's worth a look. Ersan Ilyasova's sudden concussion-related absence could boost his profile, but one look at Dudley's game log is proof why owners shouldn't cut anybody of value here.
Dec 27 - 1:34 AM

Coach Kevin McHale said Terrence Jones (leg) could be out for a month to six weeks.

Well, now it makes a little more sense why the Rockets picked up Josh Smith. Jones' nerve damage to his leg was much worse than the Rockets were letting on, so it'll likely be a two-way split at power forward for Smith and Donatas Motiejunas -- they'll also get some minutes at center. Jones can be cut in most leagues.
Dec 27 - 12:58 AM

Anthony Davis was his usual stat-stuffing self against the Spurs during a win on Friday, scoring 22 points with 12 rebounds, three assists, two steals and five blocks in 38 minutes.

That seven-point dud from Saturday is a distant memory. Davis did have a fall under the basket and said he missed up his right thumb, but it wasn't bleeding and he said he wasn't concerned about it on the post-game Pelicans broadcast. He'll get to play his first game in Chicago of his career, so expect him to try and put on a show in front of his home town.
Dec 27 - 12:23 AM

Cory Joseph made 8-of-9 from the field for 20 points against the Pelicans on Friday with three rebounds, five assists, one block and one 3-pointer in 38 minutes.

His only miss tonight was a block from Anthony Davis. The Spurs are going to give Tony Parker an extended break, so Joseph likely has a handful of starts coming his way. Patty Mills (shoulder) could also be back in the next few weeks, so his fantasy value certainly has an expiration date. However, he should be worth owning in standard leagues for the next 1-3 weeks.
Dec 26 - 11:56 PM

Greg Monroe dominated in his start against the Pacers on Friday with 19 points, 15 boards, one assist, three steals and one block in 31 minutes.

He established low position all night and David West just couldn't handle him. Monroe is certainly going to see his numbers rise, but they're not going to be this terrific. Andre Drummond was in a bit of foul trouble, which helps Monroe's usage rate and rebounding. That said, he's a must-start player right now.
