There's a "slight chance" that Kyrie Irving could play against the Hornets on Sunday, according to the News-Herald.

This is the second report in the past two days that states Kyrie is nearing a return. The Cleveland Plain Dealer said he will return "sooner rather than later" on Saturday and this is a great sign to see that he's on the comeback trail. If he doesn't play today, the Cavs play on Monday and he'll have a shot for that game, too. The reigning Rookie of the Year is a must-add player in leagues in which he's available.

Mario Chalmers (Achilles) has been cleared to return to the court.

This is a big step for the free agent as he continues to recover from his Achilles tear from March. Chalmers will generate some interest around the league, but he's unlikely to see enough minutes to make a difference in standard fantasy leagues.

Marc Gasol (foot) said all indications show that his foot is healing as expected.

While Gasol told a Spanish newspaper that he was a few weeks away from playing in the Olympics, it sounds like he could be ready for training camp. "I'm really well and looking forward to starting [the season]," Gasol said. "I miss the competition, playing and enjoying basketball. All indications are that the foot is fine. I've practiced with the [Girona basketball club] juniors all I could, especially half-court sets." We'll keep an eye on the big man's recovery as training camp nears, but Gasol will be a risky fantasy pick until we know more.

Stan Van Gundy said that Andre Drummond must "do what it takes on the mental level to get himself ready to play every night."

According to Van Gundy, consistent effort from Drummond "hasn’t quite happened yet ... He’s not quite there all the time to where he’s ready to go." SVG went on to praise Drummond's incredible potential and his dedication to offseason improvement, adding that he's "taken a different approach to his free-throw shooting [this summer]." He may simply be trying to light a fire under Drummond, but either way it's refreshing to hear more than the usual offseason pablum.

Festus Ezeli had his left knee injected with a bone marrow aspirate concentrate on Tuesday, and he will be sidelined for the next six weeks.

While Ezeli has plenty of time to get himself ready for the start of the 2016-17 season, this report is a bit concerning as Ezeli's knees have been a problem throughout his career, and this is the same knee that required arthroscopic surgery back in February. We currently have Ezeli penciled in as the third-string center in Portland, and it's going to be tough for him to change that, particularly if he's forced to spend the beginning of training camp on the sidelines. He's off the radar in most leagues.

Lakers sign F Brandon Ingram.

Ingram signed his rookie deal on Tuesday, making the No. 2 overall pick of the 2016 NBA Draft an official member of the Lakers. Ingram will likely open the season backing up Luol Deng, so we may not see much fantasy value out of him until later in the season. While he possesses tons of upside, Ingram is better left to the later rounds of fantasy drafts.

Kevin Durant was brilliant in Team USA’s 96-66 win over Serbia on Sunday, going 10-of-19 from the field and 5-of-6 from the stripe on his way to 30 points.

Durant helped spark the US offense, and was one of the primary reasons why the US closed out the first half of action on a 40-15 run, as he seemingly easily put in 24 points by halftime. Durant also chipped in three boards, five triples, four assists, two steals, one block and two turnovers through 30 minutes of action, and he’ll make for a fine top-3 selection on draft day. As a side note, this was KD's second straight gold medal performance with 30 points.

Pau Gasol scored 31 points to lead Spain past Australia for the Bronze medal on Sunday.

Gasol was excellent, hitting 12-of-15 shots from the field with 11 rebounds, two assists, one block and one 3-pointer in 33 minutes. He was also a bit fortunate because Andrew Bogut fouled out in the third, but it was still an epic performance. Gasol is uncertain about his future with international play, but keep in mind that he would be 40 years old in the next Olympic games.

According to Sixers coach Brett Brown, Joel Embiid (foot) is on track to play in preseason games.

"I just left my third consecutive day working out with Joel 45 minutes ago," Brown said. "Physically, mentally, recent medical scans, everything is pointing in the right direction. We’re just very excited." All signs are pointing toward Embiid finally getting onto the hardwood, but his exact role and any potential restrictions remain uncertain at this point.

Doc Rivers believes DeAndre Jordan is primed to have a breakout season.

Rivers used Jordan's age and maturity level as evidence for what will allow him to blossom to his fullest as the rationale for his stance. After averaging 12.7 points, 13.8 rebounds and 2.3 blocks on 70.3 percent shooting last season, Rivers is clearly looking for his big man to take an even bigger step forward in 2016-17. Those numbers may be difficult to replicate if Blake Griffin (quad) can remain healthy, but it's obvious that the Clippers have made it a point to emphasize DJ's role ever since he decided to spurn Dallas in order to re-sign with Los Angeles.
Aug 20 - 2:14 PM

Doc Rivers is confident that the Clippers will be able to retain both Chris Paul and Blake Griffin for the long haul.

Rivers specifically cited Steve Ballmer's presence as owner as a driving force behind his confidence, but he also noted that both CP3 and Blake have said that they want to remain in Los Angeles. Both superstars can hit free agency after the 2016-17 season, but as usual in the NBA, their futures will be impacted by LA's ability to win at the desired level.

John Wall (knee surgeries) is still hopeful that he will be ready for opening night.

He had procedures done on both knees back in May, but recently had a checkup and said that he's "right where I'm supposed to be." Wall said he's been working out two times a day and that he can shoot and jog, but added that he hasn't played 1-on-1 yet. Wall won't rush his return, but he still has plenty of time to ramp up his workload before training camp begins. The fact that he's coming off two knee surgeries means owners might be able to wait until the end of the second round to target him.
