The Bobcats have hired Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing as their associate head coach.

Ewing was an assistant coach along with new Bobcats head coach Steve Clifford in both Houston and Orlando. He also has a relationship with owner Michael Jordan from their battles in the Knicks vs. Bulls rivalry of the 90s. Ewing will try to help develop a Bobcats' undermanned front line that includes Bismack Biyombo, Josh McRoberts and Byron Mullens. Maybe one day he'll land a head coaching job of his own.

Elfrid Payton struggled with his shot during a 75-74 overtime win over the Clippers on Saturday, making 3-of-10 from the field for seven points with two rebounds, nine assists, one steal, one 3-pointer and five turnovers.

He's been working on his jumper a lot and it was looking good in practice, but it didn't translate today. Payton did have some confidence and he was on balance more often in this game. He's still a mid-round player to think about in standard leagues.

Aaron Gordon started his summer league with a bang against the Clippers on Saturday, scoring 22 points with 18 rebounds, one assist, two blocks and two 3-pointers.

The bad news here is he only made 4-of-10 from the line, so that continues to be a big problem for him. He had a lot of confidence in his mid-range jumper, which was a big question for him coming into this offseason. Gordon is an athletic freak and has length to defend, so an improved jumper would go a long way. That said, he's really in a tough spot for playing time with Tobias Harris coming back.
Jul 4 - 3:05 PM

Mario Hezonja hit a game-winning 3-pointer during overtime in his summer league debut, finishing with 12 points, two rebounds, two steals and two 3-pointers.

His 3-pointer was from two feet behind the line and it was nothing but net. Hezonja plays with a lot of swagger and his first step was on full display. He also had a wrap-around pass and a no-look dish in transition. The rookie wasn't very active off the ball, but it'll come. He might be your favorite rookie in no time.

Rodney Hood was held out of practice on Saturday due to a sore left shoulder.

Hood has battled several injuries in his brief NBA career, and he only managed to make 50 appearances during his rookie season. Hood has plenty of talent and is a legitimate threat from 3-point range, but he will need to stay healthy in order to fight for minutes with Alec Burks. It's probably a minor issue and the Jazz have every right to be cautious, but we will update Hood's status when we know more.

Moments after agreeing to terms with LaMarcus Aldridge, the Spurs are aggressively pursuing David West with a veteran minimum offer.

Wow. It's safe to say that the Spurs are the clear winners of the free agency period so far, and they would deserve some serious credit if they are able to land West on a minimum deal. West turned down a hefty player option with the Pacers so he could play for a contender, so it will be interesting to see if he will accept a serious discount to play for the Spurs. The Cavaliers are still considered the frontrunners for West and the Wizards are also in play, so this story is far from over.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, LaMarcus Aldridge will sign a four-year, $80 million deal with the San Antonio Spurs.

First things first, the Spurs are going to be scary next season. Tim Duncan will likely slide over to center to allow Aldridge to play at the four, and this could also mean that Duncan will be more willing to re-sign for a couple more years. The Spurs tend to monitor their starter's minutes down the stretch, so it's not unreasonable to think that Aldridge could see a slight dip in production next season. Regardless, Aldridge will be an elite asset in fantasy leagues.

Myles Turner dropped 20 points with eight boards, three blocks and one 3-pointer in 29 minutes in his Orlando Summer League debut on Saturday.

Turner was phenomenal today and he showed off a smooth shooting stroke by going 8-of-11 from the field and connecting on his only 3-point attempt. Turner's stock slipped in the draft because there was some concern about his knees due to an awkward gait, and while it is way too early to say for sure, it looks like the Pacers may have snagged one of the steals of the draft. With the Roy Hibbert trade rumors swirling around, it would be wise to monitor Turner's progress closely.

C.J. Watson has agreed to a three-year, $15 million deal with the Orlando Magic.

The Magic got rid of Luke Ridnour and Ben Gordon this summer, so they finally were able to add some additional depth to their backcourt on Saturday. Watson is a solid combo guard who averaged 10.0 points, 3.6 assists, 2.9 boards, 1.0 steals and 1.2 3-pointers for the Pacers last season, and he could be one of the first players off the bench for the Magic next season. In terms of fantasy, Watson is only on the radar in deeper leagues.

The Knicks have reportedly come to an agreement with Derrick Williams on a two-year, $10 million deal.

The Knicks are grasping at straws hoping that Williams can contribute meaningfully at the NBA level. Outside of dunks and the occasional 3-pointer, Williams struggles across the board at every other aspect of the game. Even if he was granted significant minutes in New York, he should not be on the radar in standard leagues.
Jul 3 - 10:48 PM

Restricted free agent Tobias Harris has come to terms on a four-year, $64 million deal to stay with the Magic.

Harris had quite a bit of interest around the league and it genuinely seemed like he might not be back in Orlando next season. But after swinging and missing on Paul Millsap, it seems the Magic got back on the Harris bandwagon and he'll be in a nice position to improve after last season.

Rajon Rondo and the Kings agreed on a one-year deal for $10 million.

So who bid against the Kings here? Rondo was benched at the end of the playoffs last season and the Mavs offense slipped since they picked him up. They were first in the NBA for offensive rating before Rondo, but fell all the way to 13th in offensive rating while he was on the Mavs. Darren Collison was much better than Rondo was last year and he's a better fit on the Kings right now, too. Rondo is a high-risk player to think about late in drafts.
