The Hawks waived James Johnson on Monday.

Johnson's defensive abilities haven't been enough for him to earn a guaranteed contract, but we expect to hear his name again at some point this season.

Brandon Ingram started at SG on Friday vs. the Raptors and scored a career-high 17 points on 8-of-16 shooting.

Here he comes. The Lakers are ready to set him loose and he played 35 minutes even though the game was a blowout -- no other starter played more than 24 minutes. Ingram added six rebounds, two assists and one trey, and his path to minutes has widened with his ability to play three different positions. With Nick Young (calf) out 2-4 weeks and D'Angelo Russell (knee) still out, Ingram is looking at minutes in the 30s for the foreseeable future. He's a nice pickup in most formats and he should be even better after the All-Star break.
Dec 2 - 10:40 PM

Aaron Gordon busted out against the 76ers during a 105-88 win on Friday, scoring a season-high 20 points with two rebounds, one block and two 3-pointers in 25 minutes.

It was just two points off his career high and Gordon did most of his damage in the first half with 15 points. He's been horrendous for his previous 10 games with only a 37.1 field goal percentage for 8.0 points and 1.2 dimes on the offensive side. Maybe this game can get him going, but it was a dream matchup for him. He's only a borderline hold right now and gets a tougher matchup against the Pistons on Sunday.
Dec 2 - 10:32 PM

Larry Nance has been diagnosed with a right knee contusion and is questionable for Saturday's game vs. Memphis.

He bumped knees on Friday vs. Toronto and will likely be re-evaluated on Saturday morning. Nance finished with six points and six rebounds in 23 minutes. If he sits out, Julius Randle will have a heavy workload and Thomas Robinson should be in the rotation.
Dec 2 - 10:26 PM

Rodney Hood (hamstring) is questionable for Saturday's game vs. Denver.

He was also questionable on Thursday vs. the Heat, but he was ruled out about an hour before tip-off. Joe Johnson started in Hood's place and scored 18 points in 33 minutes, so he will be a nice low-end option if Hood misses his second straight game.
Dec 2 - 9:56 PM

Joel Embiid played 27 minutes during a 105-88 loss to the Magic on Friday, scoring 25 points with 10 rebounds, four assists and three 3-pointers.

He had a 28-minute limit for this game and even played in some of garbage time to help him get close to it. Embiid did play 13 minutes next to Jahlil Okafor tonight against the bigger lineup of the Magic, so that's something to watch. Obviously it's not going to affect his minutes, usage or rebounding rate. Plus, coach Brett Brown really likes him around the rim, so his blocks should be fine, too. Embiid is very likely to rest on Saturday.
Dec 2 - 9:56 PM

Emmanuel Mudiay, Will Barton, Danilo Gallinari, Kenneth Faried and Jusuf Nurkic will start against the Rockets on Friday.

We'll see how many minutes Barton gets in his return. He's worth a pickup in standard leagues while he will take minutes away from all the other forwards and wings.
Dec 2 - 9:53 PM

George Hill (left big toe) is doubtful for Saturday's game vs. the Nuggets.

The doubtful tag this early is always a concern, so Hill's owners may have to prepare for another lengthy absence. He's been having a career year, so his owners just need to hold onto him. Dante Exum started on Thursday, but Shelvin Mack outplayed him off the bench and is the better short-term option in deeper leagues.
Dec 2 - 9:52 PM

The Hawks benched their entire starting five at halftime of Friday's game vs. the Pistons.

The Hawks were down by 19 points at half, so Malcolm Delaney, Tim Hardaway Jr., Taurean Prince, Mike Muscala and Kris Humphries started the third quarter. We'll definitely be on the lookout for some quotes from coach Mike Budenholzer after the game.
Dec 2 - 9:17 PM

Robert Covington suffered a left knee sprain and will not return on Friday night.

He and T.J. McConnell dove for a ball near the stands and McConnell's shoulder caught the side of Covington's knee. Covington was in some pain and the 76ers ruled him out about five minutes later in real time -- it is a blowout. He finished with nine points, six rebounds, one assist, two steals and three 3-pointers in 23 minutes. If he's out, there will be more minutes going to Hollis Thompson and Nik Stauskas. Both are speculative adds with a slight edge to Stauskas.
Dec 2 - 9:09 PM

Anthony Davis (right shoulder) has returned to Friday's game vs. the Clippers.

He played the whole first quarter before heading to the locker room, but returned with three minutes left before halftime. The replay showed Davis colliding with Marreese Speights, but it looked very minor. It looks like Davis is in the clear, but this is why it's important to handcuff him with Terrence Jones on your fantasy team. We'll have an update after the game.
Dec 2 - 9:04 PM

Nene (rest) will not play again on Friday night against the Nuggets.

Wow, he's getting back-to-back nights off. This likely has a lot to do with Montrezl Harrell playing very well on Thursday, so maybe it's possible rotation change, too. Nene can be dropped in most leagues while Harrell could have another nice game. Harrell would only be worth a look in deep leagues.
