Kosta Koufos scored six points on 3-of-8 shooting with seven rebounds and no steals or blocks in 28 minutes on Friday, and he could be looking at serious minutes due to Marc Gasol's knee injury.

We'd like to see the Grizzlies issue a statement and see more reporting on Gasol's situation in general, and the most recent item we have is a tweet: "Rumors are swirling that (he) has a Grade 2 MCL tear and will be out 10 weeks" according to team blog 3 Shades of Blue. Along with Z-Bo telling Tim Duncan on the court that Gasol might've tore his MCL, that's all the reporting we've seen but we think it's safe to assume that Gasol's injury is serious enough to add Koufos in all formats. Koufos had late-round value in just 22 mpg last season, and he'll easily exceed that amount of run for however long Gasol is out.

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 37 points during a 108-100 win in Boston on Wednesday, adding 13 rebounds, three assists, three steals and five turnovers in 37 minutes.

He's one of a kind and it turns out that his increased usage rate in the preseason may have been a big hint that this offense is coming -- he had a 39.6 usage rate tonight and it was 34.2 in the preseason. Coach Jason Kidd has said all along it'll be Giannis stepping it up even more, and he didn't change his tune tonight. "We always hold the bar high for Giannis, but for his opening day performance he set the bar high now and we’re going to hold him to that," Kidd said. The Greek Freak sure looks like fantasy's No. 1 player.

Hassan Whiteside piled up 26 points and 22 rebounds vs. Orlando on Wednesday, making 11-of-18 FGs and 3-of-3 FTs with one 3-pointer, one assist and one block.

Quite a way to kick things off. Whiteside became the first player since Kevin Garnett in 2007 to have a 20/20 game on opening night, and the preseason buzz about him was accurate. He looks more comfortable as a go-to offensive option this year, and could even flirt with first-round value in most formats.
Oct 19 - 12:01 AM

Dion Waiters tweaked his left ankle three times on Wednesday, but he played through them to finish with 15 points on 7-of-17 shooting, four assists, two steals, one block and one 3-pointer.

Waiters said after the game that he won't have X-rays, but this is the same ankle that bothered him last year -- he declined to have surgery then, but the ankle was still aching as recently as late September. Miami is off until Saturday, which gives him some time to recover, but we'll add him to the injury report due to the long-term nature of his ankle injury.
Oct 19 - 12:00 AM

Myles Turner posted 21 points, 14 rebounds, four blocks and two assists in 34 minutes of work vs. Brooklyn on Wednesday.

Turner has a complete game with the ability to shoot from range (one 3-pointer tonight) or attack in the paint, and he finished 8-of-13 from the field and 4-of-4 from the line. The Pacers' offense was humming all night long (due at least somewhat to the quality of the Nets' defense) and all signs point to Turner returning elite value this season.
Oct 18 - 11:15 PM

D'Angelo Russell went off for 30 points in his Nets debut on Wednesday, making 12-of-22 shots with four 3-pointers, five assists, three rebounds, two steals and two turnovers in 30 minutes.

Russell is locked into a huge role for the team with the league's fastest pace last season, a situation that couldn't be much better for fantasy upside -- his 30-point outburst tied Nate 'Tiny' Archibald for the most ever in a Nets' debut. His role will get even bigger if Jeremy Lin's knee injury costs him any time. Buckle up.
Oct 18 - 11:09 PM

Stanley Johnson (back) started Wednesday's opener, but he shot 0-of-13 from the field to finish with two points, four rebounds, four steals and one assist.

Johnson logged a game-high 40 minutes and his strong preseason appears to have convinced Stan Van Gundy that he can handle the starting role. The dreadful shooting highlights our concerns about his fantasy appeal, however, as he's a career 36.7 percent shooter (30.1 from deep) in his brief pro career. He's still worth a speculative hold due to the huge minutes and the fact that he had a green light from downtown, where he finished 0-of-6 tonight.
Oct 18 - 10:42 PM

Tobias Harris lit up for a game-high 27 points on 11-of-18 shooting on Wednesday, adding four 3-pointers, 10 rebounds and three assists in 34 minutes.

Harris is almost the forgotten man in Detroit, but he deserves more attention for fantasy purposes. He's still just 25 years old, he's a lock for top-60 value in most formats, and he's overcome questions about his durability with six DNPs over the past two seasons. If you own him, you most likely got a bargain on draft day.
Oct 18 - 10:40 PM

Robert Covington scored 29 points during Wednesday's 120-115 loss, making 9-of-15 shots with seven 3-pointers, seven rebounds, two blocks, one steal and one assist.

Covington fell one point shy of his career-high tonight, despite playing a modest 29 minutes. He's going to get a ton of open looks with teams distracted by Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, and this certainly helps answer lingering questions about his role this season.
Oct 18 - 10:18 PM

Joel Embiid finished Wednesday's season opener with 18 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and one block in 27 minutes of action.

He made 7-of-15 FGs and 4-of-4 FTs tonight, and even attempted four 3-pointers. Embiid's minutes were supposed to be limited to the teens as a precaution, but coach Brett Brown said afterward that it's "more of a plan ... than a [medical] restriction]." Even if his minutes stick in the 26-30 range, that would be more than enough for Embiid to mine fantasy gold. The next hurdle comes this weekend, when the Sixers play back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday.
Oct 18 - 10:17 PM

Ben Simmons looked great in his NBA debut on Wednesday, making 7-of-15 FGs and 4-of-6 FTs for 18 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block.

Simmons is a force to be reckoned with and the Sixers are going to be a blast to watch all season. The biggest takeaway for fantasy owners is that Simmons played under control as a true point guard and he committed just one turnover in 35 minutes. The playing time and across-the-board production are ideal, and he's already looking like a potential draft-day bargain in re-draft leagues.
Oct 18 - 10:14 PM

Marcin Gortat posted 16 points, 17 rebounds and three blocks during Wednesday's home-opening victory, making 7-of-12 FGs and 2-of-3 FTs in 34 minutes.

Gortat was a rebounding machine tonight, and this is a terrific sight for owners who took a chance on him in the later rounds -- his ADP plummeted due to a brutal finish to the 2016-17 season. The 11-year veteran has returned at least top-100 value (per-game) in six straight seasons, and he couldn't have gotten off to a better start this year.
