Deron Williams finally returned from an ankle injury and exploded for a season-high 25 points, three rebounds, seven assists and a 3-pointer on 10-of-16 shooting in a whopping 37 minutes on Tuesday.

He had missed nine straight games so don't beat yourself up if he was on your bench this week. Watch for updates throughout the week to make sure he doesn't aggravate the injury. This was the first time all season he broke the 20-point mark, and owners can only hope this is the start of a big run for the disappointing point guard.

Carmelo Anthony said that he was set up by an ESPN interview that quoted him as saying that he was the most underrated superstar in the NBA.

Anthony attempted to set the record straight on Thursday and said that he does not view himself as an underrated superstar and is only focused on winning. While "underrated-gate" has turned into a bad soap opera, fantasy owners can ignore the preseason posturing and feel safe in drafting Melo during the second half of the first round.

J.R. Smith has been playing the lead guard role in triangle offense drills at Knicks training camp on Thursday.

We'll take this news with a grain of salt since it's just one day of practice, but it's not like the Knicks have untouchable lead guard options in Jose Calderon and Shane Larkin either. While Smith brings the fantasy baggage of a poor field goal percentage, he averaged a career-high 2.6 three-pointers per game during the 2013-14 season and can still provide his owners with solid scoring and assist numbers.

Avery Bradley said his top individual goal this season is to make the NBA All-Defensive First Team.

Bradley struggled at the point guard position last season, but will exclusively play shooting guard this year, according to head coach Brad Stevens. Bradley averaged 22.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 3.6 three-pointers during five April games last season and while that's a small sample size, the 23-year-old could be a late-round fantasy steal if he's able to take another step in his fifth NBA season.

Bradley Beal continued his war of words with Cavaliers guard Dion Waiters.

After Beal and teammate John Wall proclaimed themselves the best backcourt in the league, Dion Waiters proclaimed, "That's nonsense." When asked about Waiters' comment, Beal replied, ""I’m just gonna say November 21, man." While this back-and-forth has all the makings of a WWE undercard, the third-year guard has a chance to emerge as a fantasy star in 2014-15 if he can stay healthy. Coming off a season in which he averaged 17.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.9 three-pointers, Beal enters 2014-15 as a mid-round fantasy selection who provides his owners with quite a bit of upside.

Hakeem Olajuwon thinks Dwight Howard could be a Most Valuable Player candidate this season.

Olajuwon has been impressed with Dwight Howard's maturation since joining the Rockets as a player development specialist. "The concept with Dwight is to start and pick up where he left off last year," The Dream said. "He played incredibly well in the playoffs and if he can carry that over to start the season, I think I will be voting for him for the MVP." As long as owners know what they're getting into with his poor free throw percentage, Howard is a valuable fantasy asset for his gaudy rebound and block numbers.

Carmelo Anthony told Chris Broussard of ESPN that he thinks he's the most underrated superstar in the NBA.

While Anthony may have a case, he doesn't sound too concerned with outside opinions. "I think I'm the most underrated superstar that's out there, but that doesn't matter to me," Anthony said. "These [analysts] are all people that maybe never accomplish anything. That just sit back and write articles all day long about what they see. They're kind of living through us out there on the basketball court." Regardless of how he is perceived, Anthony should thrive in the Knicks' new triangle offense and is still a lock for the first round of fantasy drafts.

Josh McRoberts (toe surgery) will miss most or all of the Heat's preseason, according to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer.

McRoberts is still planning on being ready for opening, but it sounds like he won't get much of a chance to shake the rust off before the regular season starts. McBob's 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 three-pointers with Charlotte last season don't scream fantasy value, but his ability to hit the three makes him worth a late selection in standard leagues.

LeBron James' bad back didn't hinder him from looking good in Wednesday's scrimmage.

"I think overall he’s fine," coach David Blatt said after the scrimmage. "He’s got a little bit of back soreness and we’ll monitor that carefully and we won’t overlook it." LeBron's back problems are a minor concern entering fantasy drafts, while the Cavs terrible fantasy playoff schedule is also a concern. These are both factors in why LeBron is going No. 3 in most drafts we've been a part of early this season, behind Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis.

Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash both started with the first unit in Wednesday's scrimmage, and looked great according to coach Byron Scott.

"I love what I saw with Kobe and Steve," said Scott after the practice. "Steve impressed me and Kobe impressed me." This is good news for both players, but we trust Kobe a lot more than Nash this season. Wes Johnson, Carlos Boozer and Jordan Hill filled out the first unit starters for the Lakers today.
Oct 1 - 10:14 PM

Cavs coach David Blatt said Wednesday night that he's not sure if Anderson Varejao or Tristan Thompson will start at center for the Cavs this season.

This appears to be shaping up as a true training camp battle, and bringing Varejao off the bench could help to keep him healthy this season. That's always a tough thing to accomplish, but keep an eye on this battle throughout training camp and the preseason. Obviously, if Thompson wins the starting center job, his value would see a spike, while Varejao's would take a hit.
Oct 1 - 10:06 PM

Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Wesley Johnson, Carlos Boozer and Jordan Hill were scrimmaging together in the first unit at practice on Wednesday.

This has been the expected lineup for a few weeks and Johnson's ability on defense will likely help him get run. However, he's not going to get the ball much and will likely just be taking 3-pointers. He's not quite worth drafting in most leagues.
