Chandler Parsons scored a season-high 31 points against the Blazers on Monday in one of the best games of his career, while adding 10 boards, seven assists, two blocks and three 3-pointers.

He made 12-of-19 from the field, hit all four attempts from the line and only turned the ball over once in his 42 minutes of action. Parsons was stuck in one of the worst slumps of the season, making just 35.3 percent of his shots in his previous four games, so he broke out of it in emphatic fashion to help get the win. The Rockets ask him to play big minutes and he's improving from his breakout 2013 season. His fantasy owners are hoping his back and knee issues are behind him and he's as must-start as it gets.

Elfrid Payton (hip flexor) did not practice on Friday.

He's been out of practice since his strained hip flexor injury on Wednesday. The Magic do not sound alarmed on this injury and there has been no talk of him missing preseason action just yet. While the Magic have said they're expecting improvements from Payton, it's still tough to trust him as a fantasy asset in standard leagues.

Jusuf Nurkic said he will play "full minutes" this season.

He is highly motivated and came into camp in fantastic shape. Even coach Mike Malone said Nurkic has been "amazing" this summer and said he's mentally in "a great place." The Nuggets are talking about playing Nurkic next to Nikola Jokic at times, so Nurkic could find himself getting minutes in the low 20s right away. Based on his per-minute output and how he should improve on close-range shots, that's enough to grab him near 100 in standard drafts.

Ben Simmons (right ankle) is unlikely to play on Tuesday against the Celtics.

He rolled his ankle in practice on Friday and the team is awaiting results on X-rays. The 76ers will obviously be very cautious with their franchise player and he could miss more time than just Tuesday's preseason opener. The results of his X-ray should be coming at some point today. Until then, expect to see more of Dario Saric at U Mass.
Sep 30 - 2:11 PM

Hassan Whiteside (sore left knee) is expected to practice on Saturday.

As expected, the knee issue isn't serious. "It's just sore today," coach Erik Spoelstra said. "It's a sore left knee. It's more about being smart on the fourth day of camp. I anticipate he should be going [Saturday]." Whiteside was also optimistic, saying that he was just being "careful." This isn't the same knee that bothered him in the postseason. We'll have an update on Saturday afternoon.
Sep 30 - 1:49 PM

Anthony Davis will only see limited minutes during Saturday's preseason opener.

The Pelicans are going to monitor his minutes throughout the preseason, but his workload should gradually increase each game. Davis is on track to be ready for the season opener and all the reports about his surgically-repaired knee have been positive. If Davis can stay healthy for the entire 2016-17 season, he could reestablish himself as a top-3 fantasy weapon.

Joel Embiid will play in Tuesday's preseason opener vs. the Celtics according to coach Brett Brown.

So it begins. Embiid has really impressed the 76ers at camp so far, though they have been limiting his workload and held him out of Thursday's scrimmage. While this news is obviously exciting, we're not expecting Embiid to see a lot of minutes in the near future. With that said, his upside is scary.
Sep 30 - 12:52 PM

LaMarcus Aldridge said that he will take more 3-pointers this season.

After hitting 37-of-105 (35.2 percent) of his 3-point attempts for the Blazers in 2014-15, Aldridge missed all 16 of his treys for the Spurs last season. "[Gregg Popovich], after last season, told me to get back with it, so I’ll start taking that shot more this year," Aldridge said. The promise of some more treys is encouraging, but his upside in San Antonio is limited because Popovich likes to keep his minutes in check. He's more of a third-round target.

Blazers coach Terry Stotts is keeping an "open mind" about the starting small forward role, and he's considering Moe Harkless.

"Certainly Moe starting last year, that's the way we finished the last 11 games and throughout he playoffs, so certainly that's a part of it," Stotts said. "But I want to keep an open mind about it." Evan Turner was the favorite to start heading into camp and Allen Crabbe is in the mix as well, but Harkless' momentum from last season has carried over and he's reportedly been one of the most impressive players at camp. Harkless averaged 11.8 points, 6.5 boards, 1.2 assists, 1.0 blocks, 1.2 steals and 1.0 3-pointers in 28.7 minutes per game in April.

The Bucks announced that Khris Middleton underwent successful surgery on his left hamstring.

According to the Bucks, Middleton is expected to miss around six months. It's possible Middleton could be held out for the entire season, especially since this timetable has him returning around late march to early April. Rashad Vaughn is expected to start in his place, but Malcolm Brogdon is a huge threat to his workload and the Bucks could also bring in some additonal help on the wings. Expect Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jabari Parker to benefit the most.

Thon Maker was cleared of any serious injury to his right wrist.

He's sporting a right wrist brace, but he didn't sound concerned about the injury and said he expects to be back on the court in a "few" days. Coach Jason Kidd wasn't concerned either, saying that Maker could even return in a couple days if the swelling subsides. There's nothing to worry about here, especially this early in training camp.

Dennis Schroder (ankle) will be re-evaluated in a few days.

He tweaked his ankle on Thursday and the Hawks held him out of practice. Teams are usually overly cautious during the preseason, so there's no reason to be concerned just yet. Schroder is poised for a career year as the full-time starting PG in Atlanta.
