JaVale McGee (stress fracture in tibia) has begun doing limited work on an elliptical machine.

McGee can't run on a treadmill or even ride a bike yet, and he emphasized that this is an "early step" in his rehab process, even though he's already been out since early November. "[The elliptical machine] doesn't put any pain on my shin because my foot is never leaving the platform," McGee said. "That’s the only thing I can do." This isn't a very encouraging update for his rest-of-season outlook, but it's nice to at least have some information about his rehab.

Dwight Howard piled up 26 points, 18 rebounds and three blocks in a losing effort vs. his former team on Wednesday, as the Hornets fell to the red-hot Rockets in Houston.

The loss dropped Charlotte to 2-11 on the road this season, and their 10-17 record leaves them 13th in the East, behind teams like Orlando, Brooklyn, Miami and New York. The good news is that six of their next seven games come at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte. As for Dwight, he's simply rolling at age 32, and he even made 8-of-11 free throws tonight (13-of-18 in his past two games combined).
Dec 14 - 1:29 AM

Chris Paul racked up a season-high 31 points on Wednesday, making 10-of-18 FGs and 6-of-6 FTs with 11 assists, seven rebounds, five 3-pointers and two steals in 35 minutes.

The Rockets have yet to lose with CP3 in the lineup, going a pristine 12-0 including 11 straight victories. They pulled away tonight with a 25-0 run in the first half, and cruised to an easy win despite a human performance from MVP candidate James Harden, who had 21 points on 8-of-22 shooting, eight assists, four rebounds, three 3-pointers, one steal and one block. Friday night's showdown between the Spurs and Rockets should be required viewing for NBA fans.
Dec 14 - 1:27 AM

DeMar DeRozan matched his season-high 37 points during a 115-109 win over the Suns on Wednesday, adding seven rebounds, four assists and one turnover in 37 minutes.

The Raptors are playing some good ball these days with seven wins in their last eight, and it's all about their offense. In their last eight games, their starters have played the second most minutes together among all NBA combos (Wolves starters) and their 123.2 offensive rating in those 133 minutes ranks first in the NBA among the 26 combos with at least 48 minutes. As for DeRozan, he's been awesome in the pick-and-roll this year and he's on pace for his best field goal percentage since 2009-10.
Dec 14 - 1:23 AM

Serge Ibaka scored 21 points with 13 rebounds, one assist, one block and three 3-pointers in 34 minutes against the Suns on Wednesday.

His minutes are soaring these days with 31.2 per game over his last five, and his coach likes what he sees. "He had a pep in his step," head coach Dwane Casey. "I know we look at his points, but my thing was his rebounding. He was quick to the ball. He had three offensive rebounds, kept it alive." Ibaka was absolutely rolling even before this gem this month, averaging 18.4 points, 5.2 boards, 2.0 blocks and 3.0 treys on 55.4 percent from the field. He probably won't be this good, but Ibaka's high-floor game could make him flirt with early-round value the rest of the way.

Troy Daniels scored a career-high 32 points with three rebounds, one block and seven 3-pointers during a 115-109 loss to the Raptors on Wednesday.

The Suns played yet another close game as their bench closed the gap, but the Suns are tied with the Hawks with their 21 losses -- the Suns have played an NBA-high 30 games along with the Celtics. As for Daniels, he tied his season high with seven treys to join Wesley Person as the only Suns players with multiple seven-plus trey games off the bench in a season. Daniels may be earning more late minutes while the Suns are trailing because Josh Jackson has some serious work to do. If you're hunting treys, Daniels may help you there, but he won't do much else.
Dec 14 - 12:55 AM

Nikola Mirotic made another fill-in start during Wednesday's win vs. the Jazz, erupting for a team-high 29 points on 11-of-18 shooting with nine boards, three 3-pointers and two steals.

The Bulls are 4-0 since Mirotic returned on Dec. 8 and they no longer have the worst record in the NBA (that would be the Hawks). He logged 35 minutes tonight, the result of another late scratch for Lauri Markkanen (back). The Bulls' prized rookie was a game-time decision tonight, so this could be his final DNP, but owners should keep an eye on him heading into Friday's game in Milwaukee. If he sits out again, Mirotic should be poised for another big game.
Dec 14 - 12:46 AM

Wayne Ellington drained 7-of-10 shots from downtown to finish Wednesday's home loss with 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting, four rebounds, two steals and one block in 32 minutes.

Ellington was 5-of-5 from deep in the first quarter alone, as he continues to shine as a 3-point specialist. The 24 points were the most he's scored since joining the Heat, and his shooting display was even more impressive against a Blazers team that's limiting opponents to 35.0% shooting from downtown (sixth-lowest in the league). He won't stay this hot forever, but is worth deploying until he cools off.
Dec 14 - 12:32 AM

The Blazers snapped a five-game losing streak in Miami on Wednesday, led by C.J. McCollum's 28 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.

C.J. sank 9-of-16 shots and 7-of-7 free throws in 41 minutes of action, and he's scorching the nets over Portland's past three games with combined 28-of-51 shooting (54.9 percent). He's dipped from last season in scoring (21.0 points), FG percentage (45.1%, down from 48.0%) and assists (2.7, down from 3.6), but that hasn't stopped him from returning top-40 value.
Dec 14 - 12:30 AM

Giannis Antetokounmpo filled it up as per usual during a 115-108 loss to the Pelicans on Wednesday, scoring 32 points with nine rebounds, four assists, one block, one 3-pointer and five steals in 42 minutes.

The steals move him up to No. 10 for total steals on the year and he holds his No. 10 spot for blocks, so he's obviously the only player in the top 10 for both. Antetokounmpo is fourth in total points thanks to his 33.3 usage rate, which hasn't dropped too much since Eric Bledsoe arrived. The Greek Freak shows no signs of slowing down and the Bucks being in the thick of the playoff race probably helps how many games he plays in April.
Dec 13 - 11:52 PM

John Wall (left knee) returned to action on Wednesday with 13 points, four assists, two steals, one rebound, one block and one 3-pointer in 28 minutes of action.

Wall is 2 1/2 weeks removed from platelet-rich plasma and viscosupplementation injections in his left knee, which were intended to reduce inflammation. He was limited to minutes in the "mid 20s" tonight, which we expect will steadily increase over the Wizards' next few games. Tim Frazier and Tomas Satoransky barely held value in deep leagues while Wall was out, and neither guy belongs on fantasy rosters now that he's back.
Dec 13 - 11:50 PM

Gary Harris scored a career-high 36 points during a 124-118 loss to the Celtics on Wednesday, adding three rebounds, six assists, two steals and three 3-pointers in 38 minutes.

This was a highlight fest and it was not your 2016-17 version of Harris as most of his buckets were without much help from his teammates. Harris has really blossomed as a scorer with at least 21 points in four of his last six games. Harris' usage rate has increased to 19.9 this season while it hasn't hurt his efficiency too much. He is posting third-round value in standard leagues and there's little reason to think he'll be dropping off from that output as long as he's healthy.
