Isaiah Thomas (quad) will not play against the Knicks on Wednesday night.

He missed shootaround today and he's going to miss his first action of the season. Ray McCallum figures to get the start and will get an advantageous matchup against Ray Felton. The Kings are really going to miss Thomas on both ends and he's surprisingly played well on defense this year, leading all players with at least 35.0 minutes per game in shots allowed at the rim per game with just 0.6.

Ben Simmons (foot) will undergo surgery next week according to Marc Stein of ESPN.

Stein added that Philly doctors believe it was an "acute injury," meaning they don't think it was related to his increased weight. At this point, all we know for sure is that Simmons suffered a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot, but the 76ers may not have a timetable for his return until after the procedure. In the meantime, Dario Saric is a must-own player in standard leagues and Robert Covington should benefit as well.

Kemba Walker (knee surgery) was cleared for full contact on Saturday and participated in his first practice.

This is excellent news and it also means that we might see Walker play some minutes in the preseason. His recovery from knee surgery took a lot longer than expected and he might be eased back into action early on, so drafting Walker is a little riskier than usual. If healthy, he will have an excellent chance to build off his breakout 2015-16 season in which he averaged 20.9 points, 5.2 assists, 1.6 steals and 2.2 triples per game on 42.6 percent shooting.
Oct 1 - 1:16 PM

Bradley Beal (concussion) went through a full practice on Saturday and even played in the 5-on-5 scrimmage.

To make things even better, Beal reportedly "shot the leather off the ball." It sounds the concussion is behind him and Beal should be able to participate in the preseason games. The durability concerns are real, but he's still going to cost a mid-round pick based on his upside. Beal averaged 17.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.9 triples and 1.0 steals on 44.9 percent shooting last season.
Oct 1 - 1:07 PM

Goran Dragic said he sat out of Saturday's practice because he has jumper's knee.

It's a common basketball injury, but the Heat are probably just being cautious with the veteran PG. There's no reason to be concerned unless this injury lingers throughout the preseason. Dragic is a strong bounce-back candidate that should see a nice bump in the scoring column with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh (blood clots) no longer around.
Oct 1 - 12:37 PM

Dirk Nowitzki, Andrew Bogut, Deron Williams, Wesley Matthews and Devin Harris will not play in Saturday's preseason opener.

They aren't even traveling with the team, but there are no injuries to report. Coach Rick Carlisle is simply giving them a recovery day, so the younger guys should get plenty of minutes on Saturday.

Joel Embiid is expected to start the preseason opener on Tuesday vs. the Celtics.

Coach Brett Brown was planning on starting Jerryd Bayless, Gerald Henderson, Robert Covington, Ben Simmons (foot) and Embiid, but it's likely that Dario Saric replaces the injured Simmons. It's unclear how many minutes Embiid will see on Tuesday, but his fantasy arrow is clearly pointing up with this report. The outlooks of Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel aren't looking so great at the moment.
Oct 1 - 9:21 AM

Ben Simmons has suffered a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot.

Oh no. The details are still coming, but the bad news just won't stop for the 76ers. It was believed Simmons just had an ankle sprain, but obviously the news is much worse. For now, Simmons should be considered doubtful for the regular season opener. Dario Saric just became a player worth drafting in all standard leagues while Jerryd Bayless, Robert Covington and basically the entire rotation gains value. We'll pass along any information as it becomes available.
Sep 30 - 6:23 PM

Coach Stan Van Gundy said Boban Marjanovic is "unstoppable down low."

Sounds about right. Van Gundy added Marjanovic has to work on his defense, but he's really impressed at his skill level. Boban's per-minute numbers jump off the page with his 22.1 total rebound rate, a 22.9 usage rate and a 66.2 true shooting percentage. He's also a much better shooter than Andre Drummond, making 76.3 percent from the line in San Antonio last year. As much as we all love Boban, he's still not a fantasy target in most leagues.
Sep 30 - 4:53 PM

Elfrid Payton (hip flexor) did not practice on Friday.

He's been out of practice since his strained hip flexor injury on Wednesday. The Magic do not sound alarmed on this injury and there has been no talk of him missing preseason action just yet. While the Magic have said they're expecting improvements from Payton, it's still tough to trust him as a fantasy asset in standard leagues.
Sep 30 - 3:25 PM

Jusuf Nurkic said he will play "full minutes" this season.

He is highly motivated and came into camp in fantastic shape. Even coach Mike Malone said Nurkic has been "amazing" this summer and said he's mentally in "a great place." The Nuggets are talking about playing Nurkic next to Nikola Jokic at times, so Nurkic could find himself getting minutes in the low 20s right away. Based on his per-minute output and how he should improve on close-range shots, that's enough to grab him near 100 in standard drafts.

Sep 30 - 2:56 PM

Ben Simmons (right ankle) is unlikely to play on Tuesday against the Celtics.

He rolled his ankle in practice on Friday and the team is awaiting results on X-rays. The 76ers will obviously be very cautious with their franchise player and he could miss more time than just Tuesday's preseason opener. The results of his X-ray should be coming at some point today. Until then, expect to see more of Dario Saric at U Mass.
