The Nets are in the "final stages" of contract talks with coach Lionel Hollins, with the multi-year deal believed to be worth more than $4 million annually.

Hollins quickly emerged as Brooklyn's preferred candidate once Jason Kidd left for Milwaukee. He'd give the Nets a veteran coach with 22 years' experience, who led his team to three straight playoff appearances before departing Memphis in 2013, and it's a solid hiring for a franchise in need of some stability.

Cole Aldrich snared a career-high 19 rebounds as the Knicks' starting center on Sunday, while adding 12 points (6-of-16 shooting), two assists, four steals, one block and one turnover in 34 minutes vs. the Blazers.

Aldrich is averaging 12.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.5 blocks over the past four games, and he's well worth a speculative add if you're searching for a big man with rest-of-season upside. There are a few caveats, however, including the fact that New York was without Amare Stoudemire (knee) and Samuel Dalembert (ankle), and Portland was also playing without their starting center and power forward.
Dec 28 - 11:26 PM

Monta Ellis missed the end of Sunday's game after tweaking his left ankle, but he intends to play vs. the Wizards on Tuesday.

"I'm not missing [any] games," Ellis said after the game. "I'll go home and take care of what I need to take care of." The injury didn't look serious and Monta is one of the toughest players in the NBA, so there's every reason to think he'll be in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game. We'll include him on the injury report as a precaution, however, and owners should double-check his status in the coming days.
Dec 28 - 10:52 PM

Serge Ibaka scored a season-high 26 points vs. the undersized Mavericks on Sunday, making 11-of-14 field goals with three 3-pointers in OKC's 107-112 road defeat.

Serge didn't block any shots but he added 10 rebounds and his fantasy owners won't complain about this offensive eruption. His scoring is down from last season despite an increase in shot attempts with Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant both missing significant time, so hopefully this will carry over into Wednesday's matchup with the up-tempo Suns.
Dec 28 - 10:31 PM

Dirk Nowitzki shifted to center on Sunday in Tyson Chandler's absence, racking up 30 points on 8-of-13 FGs and 12-of-12 FTs with two 3-pointers, five rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks.

The Mavs' elder statesman racked up those impressive stats in just 29 minutes, helping his team improve to 22-10 with a win vs. the visiting Thunder. Tyson Chandler (back spasms) is questionable to play vs. the Wizards on Tuesday, but even if he sits out it seems unlikely that Dirk would start in the middle vs. Marcin Gortat.
Dec 28 - 10:30 PM

Carmelo Anthony (sore knee) will not return to Sunday's game against Portland, finishing with 13 points and five boards in 19 minutes.

Anthony was clearly in pain and actually asked to come out of the game before half. His knee has been an issue for weeks now and there is no reason for the Knicks to risk his health in a lost season. We will pass along further updates as soon as we know more but it looks like he could see some time on the sidelines. The possibility of the Knicks shutting him down later in the season will likely increase with this news, and Travis Wear, Quincy Acy, and Tim Hardaway Jr. will all see additional minutes should Melo miss more time.
Dec 28 - 10:15 PM

Corey Brewer scored a season-high 25 points (8-of-11 FGs) off the Rockets bench in Sunday's road loss, while tying his career-high with six 3-pointers in a mere 24 minutes of action.

Brewer is now averaging 16.7 points on 58.1 percent shooting, 3.7 triples, 2.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.7 blocks in three games with Houston. He's averaging 23 minutes off the bench and his current numbers appear unsustainable (he had eight 3s all season with the Wolves), but he's worth a speculative pickup if you're in need of scoring, 3-pointers and steals.
Dec 28 - 10:10 PM

Josh Smith was in foul trouble throughout his first start with the Rockets on Sunday, scoring five points with eight rebounds, one assist and three steals in 26 minutes.

Smith made 2-of-7 FGs and 1-of-2 FTs with four turnovers and five personal fouls. The Spurs sagged way off him on the perimeter, daring him to beat them with long jumpers, and he finished with a +/- rating of -11. His inevitable ascension to the starting lineup bumped Donatas Motiejunas to the bench, where he had 11 points and five boards, while Kostas Papanikolaou picked up another DNP-CD. Smith was a fantasy liability in 8-cat and 9-cat leagues while in Detroit, and owners shouldn't expect any miracles in Houston.
Dec 28 - 10:04 PM

Manu Ginobili helped the Spurs avoid their third straight loss on Sunday, coming off the bench for 15 points, two 3-pointers, five rebounds, four assists and two steals in just 24 minutes.

He's been hot since sitting out on Dec. 20, averaging 14.3 points, 1.8 threes, 4.3 rebounds and 8.0 assists over the past four games, while shooting a combined 21-of-33 from the field. He's bound to play a bigger role for however long Tony Parker (hamstring) is sidelined, though fantasy owners should be wary of a potential DNPs during San Antonio's back-to-back set on Dec. 30 and 31.
Dec 28 - 10:03 PM

Zach Randolph (knee) does not have a timetable to return to action.

"I don't have a target date yet. I'm just trying to get it right and get the swelling out," Randolph said. "I want to get comfortable playing on it. We'll see how it is in a couple of days. I'll probably get it checked out again." It sounds like we can definitely rule him out for Tuesday's game, but it looks like Z-Bo will be looking at some additional time on the sidelines. Owners will have no choice but to be patient for now, and we expect Jon Leuer and Kosta Koufos to continue to fill the void for Memphis.
Dec 28 - 9:41 PM

Carmelo Anthony (knee) will start on Sunday vs. Portland.

There was some fear that he would be rested considering he said that his knee was sore after logging 46 minutes in Saturday's loss to the Kings, but the Knicks are going to roll him on out there. Fantasy owners will be wise to get Melo in all active lineups, but should really think about trading him due to the looming possibility of the Knicks shutting him down for the season.

Dec 28 - 7:48 PM

Amare Stoudemire (knee, rest) will not play in Sunday's road game vs. the Blazers.

The only good news for New York is that Carmelo Anthony (knee) will suit up despite playing 46 minutes on Saturday. Cole Aldrich and Jason Smith will start in the Knicks' backcourt with help from backups Quincy Acy and Travis Wear, but coach Derek Fisher has no choice but to play more small lineups than usual. Stoudemire is day-to-day, leaving him questionable for Wednesday's road game in L.A.
