Carmelo Anthony will soon accept a five-year contract from the Knicks, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Frank Isola reported that Melo would stay in New York earlier in the week, and once Pau Gasol signed with Chicago it was a near certainty. Melo and the Knicks may struggle during the 2014-15 season but they're poised to be major players in free agency next summer. From a fantasy perspective, Anthony is in a perfect situation as the lead gunner on a team in need of reliable scoring, and he should benefit from the Knicks' acquisition of Jose Calderon for Raymond Felton.

Amir Johnson will start for Joel Embiid (rest) on Monday vs. the Bulls.

Dec 18 - 11:51 AM

Dennis Smith Jr. (hip) was able to go through Monday's morning shootaround.

DSJ has been sidelined for a week and was listed as questionable on the latest injury report, but it seems likely that he will play Monday night vs. the Suns. Phoenix has allowed the second most fantasy points to point guards this season, so Smith Jr. will be a strong option if he's cleared and if he doesn't have restrictions. If he continues to sit, both J.J. Barea and Yogi Ferrell will be quality low-end streaming options.
Dec 18 - 11:43 AM

Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek said Kristaps Porzingis (knee) will be a game-time call vs. the Hornets on Monday.

Porzingis will test his knee out during the morning shootaround, but he isn't expected to make a final decision on his status until after warmups this evening. Hornacek did say over the weekend that Porzingis was doing better, but the Knicks are usually very careful with their franchise player. If he can't go, Michael Beasley will be a popular streaming option after lighting up the Thunder for 30 points.
Dec 18 - 10:48 AM

Markieff Morris had X-rays on his neck during halftime on Sunday, but they were negative and he returned to finish with 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting, seven rebounds, one steal and one 3-pointer in 27 minutes.

Kieff didn't start the second half, with Mike Scott taking his spot at PF, and this explains the switch. We'll leave him on the injury report as a precaution, but he should be ready to go for Tuesday's game vs. the Pelicans. The good news is that tonight's temporary exit had nothing to do with his recent groin injury.
Dec 17 - 10:16 PM

LeBron James piled up 20 points, 15 assists and 12 rebounds on Sunday, adding a pair of 3-pointers and one block in 41 minutes during a road win vs. the Wizards.

That's three consecutive triple-doubles for LeBron, tying the longest such streak of his esteemed career. LeBron also passed Hakeem Olajuwon for the ninth-most most field goals made in NBA history, and he's making a strong case for MVP honors at age 32. The only downside for fantasy owners is that he shot 8-of-23 from the field tonight, with six turnovers, but who's holding that against him?

Isaiah Thomas (hip) is reportedly targeting a return during the first week of January.

The Cavs open the month at home vs. the Blazers on Jan. 2, followed by a road game in Boston -- it's possible IT is angling for a revenge game. If he does return vs. Portland he'd miss just five more games in December, so he obviously shouldn't be on the waiver wire anywhere. The Cavs should be cautious with his minutes initially, and he might have restrictions in back-to-back sets, but he has early-round upside and we're not even halfway through the season.
Dec 17 - 8:30 PM

Derrick Favors (eye) is questionable to play vs. the Rockets on Monday.

Favors is recovering from a left eye laceration but he's listed as day-to-day, so hopefully we'll get good news after Utah's shootaround. Rudy Gobert (knee) is already out, so if Favors can't suit up the Jazz will lean heavily on Ekpe Udoh and a lot of small-ball lineups.
Dec 17 - 7:28 PM

Reggie Bullock finished Sunday's home victory with a career-high 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting, hitting four 3-pointers with five rebounds, one steal and zero turnovers in 31 minutes.

Bullock has overtaken Stanley Johnson for the starting SF job, and coach Stan Van Gundy recently explained his reasoning. "He’s the most conscientious guy of doing all the things we want to do -- run, move without the ball, move the basketball, be in the right spots defensively and pressure the ball." Bullock has been scoring with efficiency, hitting 3-pointers and racking up steals, so feel free to grab him if you're in need of a swingman.
Dec 17 - 7:19 PM

Nikola Vucevic racked up 24 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists, two blocks and one steal in 36 minutes vs. Detroit on Sunday.

The result was another loss for Orlando, but Vuc's owners aren't complaining. He made 10-of-20 shots tonight, including four 3-pointers, and he's quietly established top-10 value in 9-cat leagues this season. He's averaging career-highs in 3-pointers (1.5), blocks (1.2) and steals (1.1), he's among the league-leaders in double-doubles, and he's yet to miss a game. The dream season continues unabated.
Dec 17 - 7:11 PM

Mario Hezonja scored a career-high 28 points in 31 minutes on Sunday, making 10-of-18 shots with eight 3-pointers, six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Hezonja has made a compelling case for playing time during Aaron Gordon's (strained right calf) absence -- over the past four games, he's averaged 14.0 points, 2.5 triples, 5.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks. Feel free to add him if there's someone you're itching to cut, but it's hard to envision Hezonja holding 12-team value once Gordon, Evan Fournier (ankle) and Arron Afflalo (back spasms) are all healthy.
Dec 17 - 7:10 PM

Jonas Valanciunas posted a 13-point, 16-board double-double during Sunday's win over the Kings, adding two assists, three blocks and one turnover in 27 minutes.

Valanciunas was able to earn minutes in the high-20s going up against Sacramento's more traditional frontcourt, and with Serge Ibaka (knee) unavailable, but consistent minutes is not a trend we'd expect to develop for any of the bigs playing under Dwane Casey in Toronto. JV is a talented player, but as long as he's playing for Casey in the Raptors' iso-heavy attack, he won't be much more than a late-round guy.
