The Mavericks may nullify their recent contract agreement with Rashard Lewis after a physical revealed the need for knee surgery.

Lewis already signed his contract, according to Mavericks radio announcer Chuck Cooperstein, which seems odd if he didn't pass his team physical. It shouldn't take long for more details of the situation to emerge -- with luck the 34-year-old Lewis won't require major surgery, and will be ready to play for the Mavs (or another team) on opening night.

Dennis Smith Jr. (left knee effusion) will miss Friday's game vs. the Kings and Saturday's game vs. Houston.

He wasn't on the injury report, so this comes as a complete surprise -- he reportedly experienced the swelling after shootaround. Smith Jr. had a torn left ACL during his senior season in high school, so it's a little worrying that he has some swelling. There's no word on the severity, but hopefully we'll have some clarity after the game. Expect Yogi Ferrell and J.J. Barea to log heavy minutes Friday in a great matchup.
Oct 20 - 7:33 PM

Zach Randolph (oral surgery) will play on Friday vs. the Mavericks.

He's also expected to start next to Willie Cauley-Stein which will push Skal Labissiere to the bench. Z-Bo will be a nice source of points and rebounds, but his upside is limited in his age-36 season. Labissiere will likely be the PF to own in Sacramento this season, especially later on.
Oct 20 - 7:05 PM

Allen Crabbe will start against the Magic on Friday.

After getting some minute limits on Wednesday, he should be all set. Crabbe was in the lone lineup for the final five minutes after the Jeremy Lin (knee) injury, so he should be asked to play big minutes in the first unit. This offense is almost perfect for him, so he should be owned in standard leagues. He's a DFS play, too.
Oct 20 - 6:47 PM

Jonathan Isaac will start for Aaron Gordon (ankle) on Friday against the Nets.

This was a fairly obvious call based on how Isaac played all 14 of the backup power forward minutes on Wednesday, and he also logged 3.2 minutes next to Gordon, as well. He was terrific on the defensive end and he fits in for this up-tempo matchup, so he could be looking at over 30 minutes. Expect some small-ball lineups to fly as well.
Oct 20 - 6:47 PM

Aaron Gordon (ankle) will not play against the Nets on Friday.

He said he's still sore from any ankle issue on Wednesday. This is a brutal blow in a dream matchup against the Nets, and hopefully he can return for the next one. With him out, we should see Jonathan Isaac get some extra run along with Jonathon Simmons playing more, as well. There will be a lot of shots to go around in what should be a fast game, too.
Oct 20 - 6:40 PM

Kawhi Leonard (quad) has been ruled out of Saturday's game vs. the Bulls.

No surprise here, as Leonard did not play in any preseason games and was sidelined for San Antonio's season opener. The notoriously tight-lipped Spurs have not given any timetable for his return, opening up endless speculation. Some reporters have suggested Leonard could miss the first few weeks of the season. Rudy Gay and Kyle Anderson will continue to be the primary fantasy beneficiaries in Kawhi's absence.
Oct 20 - 6:38 PM

Eric Bledsoe (right ankle) is questionable to face the Lakers on Friday.

The Suns look like they're having a "hold my beer" moment about tanking after their 48-point loss on Wednesday. Bledsoe was fairly aggressive in his 29 minutes on Wednesday and it's unknown when he hurt himself. If he can't go, Tyler Ulis (quad) would likely start with Mike James backing him up. Troy Daniels would also get minutes while Devin Booker's usage figures to jump up, as well.
Oct 20 - 6:34 PM

Damian Lillard, C.J. McCollum, Moe Harkless, Al-Farouq Aminu and Jusuf Nurkic will start against the Pacers on Friday.

C.J. is back after his one-game suspension because he took eight steps on the court during an altercation during the preseason. The Blazers offense was hitting on all cylinders on Wednesday thanks to Pat Connaughton playing his best game and Damian Lillard smashing in PNR. Get McCollum locked and loaded in your lineup.
Oct 20 - 6:22 PM

Joel Embiid will play more than 20 minutes on Friday against the Celtics, but he will rest on Saturday.

This was a fully expected move for the 76ers. However, the schedule is really kind to the 76ers with no back-to-back games until Nov. 29. In other words, if Embiid can stay healthy, he could play in every game until Thanksgiving. Coach Brett Brown did say the 76ers played him more than they wanted to on Wednesday, but he'll be over 20 minutes tonight and maybe close to 27 again. He'll be going at Aron Baynes all night tonight.
Oct 20 - 6:19 PM

Coach Luke Walton said Julius Randle is "a little frustrated about the starting thing."

"I’ve explained it’s not about whoever being better or playing better," Walton said, "it’s about what units play well. And Julius was playing really with that second unit, Larry was playing well with the first unit." In other words, we can probably pencil in Larry Nance Jr. as the starter -- he should be owned in all leagues, by the way. As for Randle, he'll have to adapt to his new role, but his fantasy owners should hang in there for now.
Oct 20 - 6:14 PM

Boban Marjanovic is inactive for Friday against the Wizards.

Two weeks ago, it seemed coach Stan Van Gundy liked Boban more than Diet Pepsi, but his love for him fizzled out like, umm, you know. SVG is going to take a by committee approach behind Andre Drummond, so for now it looks like Eric Moreland is the No. 2 center with Jon Leuer mixed in there. While this could change, Boban is obviously a drop in most leagues now.
