Marc Gasol (rest, tanking) is back in the starting lineup on Monday vs. the Bucks.

The Grizzlies will go with Kobi Simmons, Dillon Brooks, Jarell Martin, JaMychal Green and Gasol in the first unit, so Ben McLemore will head back to the bench. Gasol is safe to deploy in fantasy leagues tonight, but expect more random DNPs going forward.

Luke Walton said he's not ready to commit to who will start at point guard.

Walton added that Rajon Rondo did great in his first practice as a Laker, and if the season started tomorrow he would start No. 9 due to Lonzo Ball (knee) being unavailable, but that's not saying much. That starting point guard position will be an open one at camp, but this does have the potential to devolve into a value-killing, timeshare situation between Rondo and Ball.

Lonzo Ball (knee) did not participate during the contact portions of Tuesday's practice.

Ball is still "a few" steps away from being cleared for 5-on-5 work following his July surgery, and while he'll go through the non-contact portions later on Tuesday, the Lakers don't want him participating in two-a-day activities at this point. It's a bit too early to be too worried about this knee issue, but if it lingers into the preseason, there will be cause for concern.

David Fizdale said every starting position will be an open competition at training camp.

We'd expect Tim Hardaway Jr., Mario Hezonja and Enes Kanter to start, but as of right now, it's a bit of a mystery as to who will start at the PG and PF positions. Who starts at point guard will likely come down to Trey Burke vs. Frank Ntilikina, and the PF position will be fought between Kevin Knox and Noah Vonleh (with Kristaps Porzingis still on the mend), and we'll be watching these battles closely over the course of camp and the preseason.

Pau Gasol said he's "down" with coming the bench in San Antonio this season.

Gasol wants to do whatever will help the team win, and it would make some sense to bring the 38-year-old off the bench in order to help keep his minutes in the lower-20s. If Gasol ends up running with the second unit, that would open the door for Jakob Poeltl to start, making him an even more intriguing late-round target on draft day. At this point in his career, Gasol isn't really worth drafting anywhere.
Sep 25 - 2:19 PM

Austin Rivers (neck spasms) sat out the contact portions of Tuesday's practice.

Rivers should be fine with a few days of rest, so we'd expect the Wizards to take it easy on him through the early days of camp. Rivers could step into a sort of sixth man role with the Wizards this season, but as long as John Wall and Bradley Beal are healthy, it'll be tough for him to see much more than 25 minutes a night. He's worth drafting in most settings.

Coach James Borrego said Willy Hernangomez's ceiling is "high and wide" and he's capable of averaging a double-double this year.

"It's up to him to put pressure on me and our staff to play him the minutes to go get those double-doubles," Borrego said. The coach really talked up Hernangomez on Monday, saying he had a great spirit, he "changed his body" and that he extended his range to 3-point territory. If he can win the starting job, Hernangomez could be a valuable piece in fantasy in what should be an improved offense. He's worth a late-round flier to see if he can come through.

Coach Dave Joerger said De'Aaron Fox is the Kings' "franchise guy."

"I think he is and I think everybody kind of agrees on that," Joerger said. "Yet we’re still waiting on other guys as they develop and rise up in their careers." Joerger also said that the Kings are changing their schemes to play younger guys and to play faster, which Fox addressed. "Push the ball," Fox said about what the coach told him. Fox also hit the weight room to get stronger, and it sounds like he'll be given every opportunity to shine this year. He's high-upside player to take in the second half of drafts.

Skal Labissiere said he’s added 20 pounds in the offseason.

He hired a chef to focus on healthy eating, and he traveled less while hitting the weight room instead. This year is a big season for Skal because the Kings now have Harry Giles and Marvin Bagley III in the mix. With the Kings playing their younger guys, Labissiere should be in the rotation, but he's not a strong fantasy target just yet.

Jrue Holiday has taken Frank Jackson under his wing this summer.

Jackson spent 3.5 weeks with Holiday and trainer Mike Guevara to help prepare for training camp. Jackson was also asked about getting over his ankle injury from Vegas. "I feel good and my body feels great. Nothing is bothering me," Jackson said. We have a very small sample on Jackson due to his injuries, but he sure showed upside in that one half. Apparently, Holiday is a believer as well, so keep an eye on Jackson in the preseason.

Coach Dave Joerger said he's going to commit to giving the younger guys more playing time.

"We're excited about the young guys we have and we're going to commit to playing more young guys than we have in the past," Joerger said. Could it be? Could the Kings finally have learned how to develop their guys? If so, this could be wonderful news for the fantasy values of guys like De'Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield, Marvin Bagley III and Harry Giles.

Dwight Howard (back) is expected to miss Washington’s first practice, and possibly more sessions, as he deals with soreness in his back.

Not an ideal way to being training camp. Howard says the back pain is partly the result of traveling to China. "Airplanes weren’t made for tall people. It kind of sucks flying 15 hours curled up in the fetal position. Just a minor setback, but should take that long for me to get back on the court. I’ve been feeling great all summer. Just something that we’ll have to deal with, but it shouldn’t keep me out too long." Howard is downplaying the problem, but he does have a history of back problems, having undergone surgery in 2012 to repair a herniated disc. We'll keep an eye on this situation over the next couple of weeks.
