Ryan Anderson (hip) and Brandan Wright (knee) have been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Clippers.

Mike D'Antoni did say that Anderson was close, and mentioned Saturday's game vs. New Orleans as a potential return date for the sharpshooter. Trevor Ariza, Luc Mbah a Moute and P.J. Tucker will continue to log extended minutes while Anderson and Wright are out, with Ariza offering the most upside. Wright belongs on the waiver wire in all leagues.

Coach Scott Brooks made it clear that he wants Otto Porter to take more 3-pointers this season.

The Wizard coaching staff wants to increase their 3-points attempts in 2017-18, and Porter is the team's best shooter. Brook's instructions to Porter: "Shoot the ball every time you get an open shot. Do not hesitate." Brooks added: "He's one of the best perimeter shooters in the league, and we need more threes. We've been trying to do that for two years, and we've got one of our best shooters passing up shots." An increase in 3-point attempts will lift Porter's fantasy stock.

Bogdan Bogdanovic is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after undergoing minor arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Monday.

The good news is that it won't be a long-term absence, but Bogdanovic is probably going to miss the first couple weeks of the season. He averaged 11.8 points, 1.7 triples, 2.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists last season and gives the Kings another ball-handler to take the pressure off De'Aaron Fox, so he's worth stashing if you have an IR spot. Buddy Hield has a clear path to 30+ minutes right out of the gate.

Moe Harkless (knee surgery) has still not been cleared for 5-on-5 work.

Harkless underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in late-March and missed about a month of action before returning for two playoff games, although he didn't look quite right and sat out Portland's Game 4 loss to New Orleans. It's not a great sign that he's still recovering from what is typically a relatively minor procedure, and there's a chance this could impact his status for the regular season. If he's forced to begin the year on the sidelines, that would translate to more run for Evan Turner and Al-Farouq Aminu.

Jimmy Butler took his physical in Minnesota on Monday and head coach Tom Thibodeau said he's "about a week away" from being game-ready from a conditioning standpoint.

Butler had a minor procedure performed on his right (shooting) hand back in July, but it sounds like he's fully recovered from that, and now just needs to get his conditioning right. Thibs made it clear that he's not only listening to offers from the three teams Butler listed in his initial trade request, and that he'll ultimately do what's best for the Timberwolves franchise. It's been reported that Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor would like to get a deal done before Tuesday, so things could move along very quickly here.

Fred Hoiberg said that the starting center position in Chicago will be an "open competition" at training camp.

Wendell Carter Jr. will be competing with Robin Lopez for the starting center position, but regardless of who comes out on top of this battle initially, WCJ is essentially guaranteed to close out the year as the starting five-man in Chicago. Lopez could be an attractive trade chip, as a capable center on an expiring deal, and it doesn't make a ton of sense for the 30-year-old to be a part of this rebuild. Carter Jr. could get off to a semi-slow start if he doesn't begin the year as a starter, but we expect him to finish strong.

Brandon Knight will miss both training camp and the preseason due to an "infection."

It sounds like Knight's left knee may have got infected after his latest procedure, which provides further evidence for why we wouldn't recommend drafting him anywhere. He's been unable to stay on the court throughout his career and his outlook this season isn't very promising as he won't be anything more than Chris Paul's backup.
Sep 24 - 2:50 PM

Coach Steve Kerr said he "for sure" he won't be starting Draymond Green at center to begin the year.

"I won't start small," Kerr added. That means it'll be Jordan Bell, Kevon Looney or Damian Jones as the starting five man. Green is obviously going to get most of his run at power forward and they'll be mix him in at the five in their Hamptons Five lineup. He may slide a little in drafts and could become a value in the early fourth.

Coach Dwane Casey said Andre Drummond will have the green light from beyond the arc.

"Two, three 3-pointers per game is not out of the question," Casey added. Drummond reportedly made 200 corner triples every day this summer, but we won't have to wait long to see if this 3-point shot is legit with preseason just around the corner. Drummond's excellent FG% is a big part of his fantasy value, so hopefully he doesn't get carried away.

Michael Porter Jr. (back surgery) still doesn't have a timetable.

He said he feels great, but the Nuggets aren't going to rush him back. It's been said many times, but it's important to reiterate that it's possible we don't see MPJ at all during his first season. There's no reason to burn a pick on him in re-draft leagues.

Reggie Jackson's ankle is "fully healed" according to Pistons senior adviser Ed Stefanski.

"We did an MRI a couple weeks ago. It was perfect," Stefanski added. "Now, it's just basketball shape...hoping to get him ready to go opening night." He had a "minor procedure" on his right ankle over the offseason and has had some tough luck with injuries over the last few years. If he's not ready in time for opening night, Ish Smith would be an interesting add for any owner in need of dimes.
Sep 24 - 1:13 PM

Coach Mike Malone suggested he's open to playing Trey Lyles at small forward.

So the Nuggets aren't exactly prioritizing defense. When asked about lineups, Malone said, "Who’s to say Trey Lyles can’t play small forward?" Malone also said that he thinks Lyles is going to have "a great impact" on the roster and that Lyles "can play almost any offensive position with his skillset." With Wilson Chandler gone and Will Barton now in the starting lineup, Lyles could up his scoring, especially if Isaiah Thomas has limitations to start the year. After a head-turning offseason, Lyles is on the board as a late-round flier.
