LeBron James bounced back from a poor Game 1 to hit 16-of-29 shots, 5-of-11 3-pointers and 5-of-10 free throws on his way to 42 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists, a block and six turnovers in Tuesday's Game 2 loss to the Celtics.

James scored 21 of Cleveland's 27 points in the first quarter, tying his playoff career high for points in a period. His 42 points marked his fifth 40-point game of this postseason, but he got very little support from his teammates tonight. This crew playing with LeBron looks suspiciously like the one that the Cavs shipped out of town when they made their midseason overhaul. Kevin Love was solid with 22 points and 15 boards, but George Hill, J.R. Smith, and almost every other Cavalier looked disinterested throughout the second half tonight. LeBron suffered a neck sprain that briefly knocked him out of the game, but he looked fine upon returning. The Celtics have never lost a playoff series after leading 2-0 and are undefeated at home this postseason, so LeBron clearly has his work cut out for him in this one.

Anthony Davis returned to action in the second quarter on Wednesday

Dec 12 - 8:51 PM

Anthony Davis went to the locker room in the first quarter on Wednesday.

It looked like Cheick Diallo fell into AD's left quad, and AD was a little gimpy on the next couple possessions before he came out. It didn't look too bad, but it was noticeable that he was slow to get up and down the floor. Hopefully he's back out there soon.
Dec 12 - 8:40 PM

Tyler Johnson is getting the start in Utah on Wednesday.

Goran Dragic (knee) is dealing with his nagging knee yet again, so Johnson will get a rare start -- he scored just eight in his only start earlier this year. He'll join Josh Richardson, Rodney McGruder, James Johnson and Bam Adebayo in the first unit while Justise Winslow should handle the rock in the second unit. Johnson could be worth a look for PG-needy owners, but he also has to show he can stay healthy.
Dec 12 - 8:21 PM

Hassan Whiteside (personal) will rejoin the Heat in Memphis on Friday night.

Presumably, he will be playing, and he should still be in the starting lineup despite the strong play from Bam Adebayo. The last time we saw Whiteside, he left the bench early on Dec. 4 because he said he had to go to the bathroom. Even if he starts, he'll likely have a soft minutes limit and may not close. His return would put a dent in the value of Bam, Kelly Olynyk and Justise Winslow.
Dec 12 - 8:11 PM

Jake Layman will start at small forward in place of Moe Harkless (rest) Wednesday in Memphis.

Harkless is getting the night off, and coach Terry Stotts said the Blazers will continue to evaluate how Harkless feels in back-to-back sets. Layman wasn't able to do much when Harkless was out earlier this year, and it'll likely be Evan Turner seeing most of the minutes at small forward tonight.
Dec 12 - 7:58 PM

Dirk Nowitzki (ankle) will not play Wednesday against the Hawks.

Coach Rick Carlisle said Dirk is "getting closer" to a return. The Mavs are on a back-to-back set, but it's somewhat surprising he won't be playing at home compared to being in Phoenix on Thursday night. This ESPN report adds that the Mavs are shooting for Thursday or at home on Sunday, so Dirk should be back soon. He's a decent stash in standard leagues, but he's certainly going to get maintenance days off.
Dec 12 - 7:39 PM

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (personal) will not play on Wednesday against the Pistons.

This update comes after tip-off, which is always frustrating. The Hornets have a Friday-Saturday, back-to-back set coming up, and for now, we'll be considering MKG questionable for those games.
Dec 12 - 7:17 PM

Stanley Johnson (left knee) will play vs. the Hornets on Wednesday.

He’ll be returning from a three-game absence, and he could see quality minutes with Glenn Robinson III (ankle) out of the lineup. That said, he’s too inconsistent to be considered a viable option in most settings.
Dec 12 - 6:39 PM

Coach J.B. Bickerstaff said Mike Conley (hamstring soreness) will play against the Blazers on Wednesday.

Conley went through shootaround and said he expects to play today. Although, he did say he was going to be careful with it and he may not go to a 100% sprint. Conley tweaked his hammy on Monday and went to the locker room, but he was able to return. We'll let you know how he looks after the game, but get him in your lineups.
Dec 12 - 6:35 PM

Alvin Gentry said he wants to start scaling back Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday's minutes.

Davis and Holiday currently rank No. 1 and 2 in minutes per game this season, so it wouldn't be the worst idea to dial their minutes back a bit. However, that's easier said than done with Elfrid Payton (finger), E'Twaun Moore (leg) and Nikola Mirotic (ankle) all unavailable and the Pelicans needing to win games to get into the playoff hunt. We'll be watching the minutes distributions in New Orleans carefully tonight.
Dec 12 - 6:27 PM

Jeff Green will start for Otto Porter (knee) against the Celtics on Wednesday.

Coach Scott Brooks likely wants to keep Kelly Oubre and Markieff Morris together in the second unit here. Green's starts have not gone well this year, averaging just 4.0 points and 4.0 boards in the two starts. Oubre almost certainly will be closing and is the better fantasy play here.
