Dallas coach Rick Carlisle is already gushing about No. 3 overall pick Luka Doncic.

"Off of what I've seen over the last two days," Carlisle said last week, "anybody who doesn't jump on season tickets now is going to sorely regret it later, that's all I'll say." J.J. Barea also came away impressed, calling Doncic a pro rookie. "Overseas I saw him a little, and I played against him in some pickup games [last week]," Barea said. "He's bigger than I thought he was. He knows the game." Expect the Mavericks to put the ball in his hands early and often this season.

Kyle Kuzma said he and the coaching staff have "worked on a lot of perimeter skills and playing at the three" this summer.

"Last year I played the three and the four, and I’ll probably play [both] this year, but just to develop my game as a perimeter guy," Kuzma said about his offseason focus. "Reading passes. My handling. Just working out as a guard really helps your overall game." With LeBron James set to soak up most of the PF minutes, it'll be imperative for Kuzma to fill in at the three for close to half of his playing time. If he can do that, he'll warrant a pick in the later rounds, especially in points leagues.

According to Magic official team reporter John Denton, Jonathan Isaac "will resemble a small forward on offense and a power forward defensively" this season.

Denton has worked for the Magic for years, and he adds that Aaron Gordon will be more of a small forward on defense and a power forward on offense. Of course, offensive positions can be viewed as arbitrary assignments, but this makes sense after we saw how much Isaac handled the ball on the wing in Las Vegas. If his offensive game is even halfway decent, Isaac could have a breakout season based on his per-minute output in defensive stats.

Russell Westbrook underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Wednesday after feeling some stiffness in the last week.

He will be re-evaluated in four weeks, which means he could miss some of the preseason. He's had numerous issues with his right knee, including a meniscus tear and this is now his fourth surgery on his right knee -- had a left-knee PRP treatment last year, too. The Thunder called it a "proactive procedure" in a statement about the former MVP, but getting the surgery so close to the season is a concern. Considering his history, Westbrook's potential fantasy owners may want to bump him down a handful of spots. Dennis Schroder gains slightly more value while Paul George is locked in as a top-15 pick.

Kyrie Irving (knee) reportedly looked "amazing" at a recent workout in Miami, scrimmaging without restrictions for two days straight.

The star-studded scrimmage at the Miami Heat facility included Kevin Durant, James Harden and several other Heat players, and Irving appeared to be going full-bore. Irving underwent a minimally invasive knee surgery back in March, but it looks like he'll be 100% heading into camp. Still, the knee issues will make him a risky early-round investment.

Devin Booker underwent surgery to repair the fifth metacarpophalangeal joint in his right hand on Monday and he's expected to be sidelined for the next six weeks.

This means that Booker will miss all of camp and the preseason, and there's a good chance he won't be ready for opening night. If he meets his six-week timetable, that would have him missing the first 2-3 games of the year, and it'll likely take him about a month to really get going. That said, he's set up for a monster season with very little depth in Phoenix's backcourt, so this news shouldn't dramatically alter his draft stock.

Luol Deng is reportedly finalizing a one-year deal with the Timberwolves.

Tom Thibodeau was a huge fan of Deng during his Chicago days, so it'll be interesting to see what kind of role he has in Minnesota. He could chip away at some of Andrew Wiggins' minutes, and his arrival all but guarantees that Keita Bates-Diop will not be a regular part of the rotation. We don't anticipate Deng making much noise in fantasy hoops this season.
Sep 10 - 2:29 PM

Luol Deng is expected to come to an agreement with the Wolves this week according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

Of course he will. Now coach Tom Thibodeau just needs to bring in Joakim Noah to recreate the 2010 Bulls. Deng should have a role, and if he's going to steal minutes from someone they could come from Taj Gibson or Andrew Wiggins. Assuming Deng signs, that would be bad news for rookie Keita Bates-Diop as well.

Devin Booker will have right hand surgery on Monday and will be out indefinitely, according to John Gambadoro.

Booker is "likely to miss the start of training camp," according to the report from Arizona Sports. He jammed his hand back on Mar. 14 and wound up missing the final 12 games of the regular season. The initial diagnosis must have been that he'd heal fully with enough rest, but obviously that didn't suffice with surgery pending mere weeks before camp. There's no indication that Booker will miss regular-season games, but his status should be clarified after Monday's surgery. Stay tuned.

Rodney Hood will reportedly sign a one-year, $3.4 million qualifying offer with the Cavs.

Hood didn't receive much interest on the open market after a disappointing 2017-18 campaign, but he could certainly have a bounce-back year playing a key role on a Cavs team that could really use some extra offense. If he emerges as a starter after training camp, he'll be someone to consider taking a flier on towards the final few rounds.

Jabari Bird has been arrested and is facing charges for an alleged assault

Per the report from CBS News in Boston, Bird was taken into custody early Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, and the BPD Domestic Violence Unit is involved. The Celtics issued the following statement: "We are aware of the incident involving Jabari Bird and are taking it very seriously. We are actively gathering information and will reserve further comment at this time." In their statement, Boston police say that Bird is being guarded at a local hospital for an evaluation after a domestic incident and that complaints will be sought against the suspect for assault & battery 209A, strangulation and kidnapping.

DeMarcus Cousins (left Achilles) was filmed dunking as part of a forthcoming documentary about his recovery from surgery in January.

He jumped off his left foot for the dunk and this supports Steve Kerr's assertion that Boogie is "right on schedule ... [and] hasn't had any setbacks." Golden State can afford to be careful with him and GM Bob Myers said "the goal is to have him in the playoffs," but we should know more after training camp.
