Wendell Carter Jr. got the start ahead of Robin Lopez on Wednesday against the Pacers, but struggled in 17 minutes, scoring only two points.

Carter Jr. is off to a rough start this preseason, averaging 6.6 points and 4.8 rebounds on 44 percent shooting. WCJ has looked better than his numbers suggest, especially defensively. The best way for a young player to get on the floor is by impressing their coach on defense and he has done that. He has a chance to cut into Lopez's minutes right off the bat, making him an intriguing option with upside in the later-middle rounds.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (groin) is officially being listed as questionable for Wednesday's season opener against the Pistons.

RHJ missed the entire preseason with the groin issue, but he's been a full participant at recent practices, which is a positive sign regarding his status for opening night. The Nets will re-evaluate him after shootaround, so we should get official word by Wednesday afternoon. Stay tuned.
Oct 16 - 6:43 PM

Gordon Hayward will be in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the 76ers.

Joining Hayward in the starting five will be Kyrie Irving, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Al Horford, which is the same starting lineup they opened with last year. Hayward will be limited to 25-30 minutes for the first few weeks of the season, but that's still plenty of time for him to contribute meaningful stat lines. Go ahead and get him active.
Oct 16 - 6:23 PM

Dewayne Dedmon (left ankle), Justin Anderson (tibia) and John Collins (ankle) will not suit up for Wednesday's season opener against the Knicks.

With both Dedmon and Collins unavailable on Wednesday night, Omari Spellman could be looking at a start and Alex Len (back) should see extended minutes. Dedmon has been ramping up his activities, but the Hawks won't be in any rush to bring him back. If Len continues to play well, Dedmon might not be able to retake his spot in the starting lineup.
Oct 16 - 5:51 PM

Larry Nance (right ankle) is questionable for Wednesday's season opener against the Raptors.

Nance said he's been making solid progress, but his ankle is still black and blue, so there's a good chance we won't see him take the floor tomorrow night. Tristan Thompson will get the start at center, and he'll see an uptick in minutes if Nance can't give it a go. Check back for another update following Wednesday morning's shootaround.
Oct 16 - 5:18 PM

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is expected to start at shooting guard in Thursday's season opener against the Trail Blazers.

KCP was again a full participant at Tuesday's practice, marking the second day in a row he went through a full practice, so it looks like he's moved on from the minor knee issue. Luke Walton won't confirm his starting lineup until Thursday, but Caldwell-Pope again scrimmaged alongside Rajon Rondo, Brandon Ingram, LeBron James and JaVale McGee, and it would seem that will be the starting lineup vs. Portland.
Oct 16 - 4:36 PM

Isaiah Canaan said he's expecting to start at point guard in Wednesday's regular-season opener against the Mavericks.

"As of right now, that’s what it’s looking like," said Canaan when asked if he expects to start on Wednesday. "I’m really looking forward to that and just going out there and trying to do whatever I can to help the team win." If Canaan does indeed start at the point, that would mean that Devin Booker would start at the two, which could shift Josh Jackson into a reserve role at the three-spot. Canaan might be worth a flier in deep leagues, but his season-long outlook isn't great.
Oct 16 - 4:15 PM

Devin Booker (right hand) isn't worried about taking hits to his surgically repaired right hand in Wednesday's regular-season opener against the Mavericks.

"I’ve taken plenty of hits in practice now, and now I trust it and believe that it’s ready to go for full contact [in a game]," said Booker. "That’s what I’ve been doing the past week." We're expecting the fourth-year guard to take another major leap forward in his age-22 season, and we don't anticipate the hand issue re-emerging.
Oct 16 - 4:12 PM

Lance Thomas (hip) was a full participant at Tuesday's practice.

He did not participate at Monday's practice, but that was merely a precautionary move, so he'll be good to go for Wednesday's season opener against the Hawks. Thomas is going to start at power forward to begin the year, but his role will likely fade as we get further into the season.
Oct 16 - 3:04 PM

James Johnson (hernia) will not suit up for Wednesday's regular-season opener against the Magic.

Head coach Erik Spoelstra said after Monday's practice that Johnson still needs to get in some more work before he's comfortable throwing him into the lineup, so it's not surprising to see him ruled out. He was, however, able to get in a full practice on Monday, so he is getting close. For now, we'll consider Johnson questionable for Thursday's game in Washington, and it'll be Kelly Olynyk benefitting most while he's out.
Oct 16 - 3:02 PM

Wayne Ellington (left ankle) and Justise Winslow (hamstring) are doubtful to play Wednesday against the Magic.

Ellington missed all of training camp and the preseason with his sore ankle, and it looks like the 30-year-old swingman will be joining James Johnson (hernia) and Dion Waiters (ankle) on the sidelines Wednesday night. Josh Richardson, Dwyane Wade and Tyler Johnson will get all the run they can handle, with Richardson offering the most upside.
Oct 16 - 2:57 PM

Isaiah Thomas (hip) will not suit up for Wednesday's season opener against the Clippers.

Thomas was given a rough four-month timetable after undergoing hip surgery back in March, so the fact that he's still not close despite being a full six months removed from the procedure is certainly concerning. He's someone to consider stashing away in an IR-spot, but he's a less enticing stash in leagues with a shallow bench sans an IR-spot.
