LeGarrette Blount has been handling the majority of the first-team reps throughout OTAs and into this week's minicamp.

First-rounder Doug Martin is being worked in with the starters "occasionally," along with Mossis Madu and seventh-rounder Michael Smith. Blount confirmed that new coach Greg Schiano "loves" running the ball and has stressed exactly that in the new offense. Blount's spot atop the depth chart may be a nod to his experience edge, in which case Martin will have to outplay him in training camp and preseason action to steal the starting job. We anticipate that happening.

Eagles LB Mychal Kendricks said he asked the team to trade or release him back in January.

Kendricks said the Eagles told him they would like to hold onto him and didn't meet his request. He doesn't have much of a role in DC Jim Schwartz's defense as the third linebacker, but perhaps the Eagles are holding onto Kendricks in the event WLB Nigel Bradham is suspended as a result of his battery charge settlement on July 4.

Seahawks signed DE Marcus Smith, formerly of the Eagles.

The 26th overall pick in the 2014 draft, Smith was cut by the Eagles on Wednesday and cleared waivers Thursday. It's likely a deal for the league minimum with little or no guaranteed money. Seattle loves taking fliers on pass rushers, and Smith joins ex-Dolphins first-round bust Dion Jordan as ones who have joined the Seahawks this year. Smith will compete for a pass-rushing depth job in this loaded front.

Coach Vance Joseph said C.J. Anderson is in his best shape in "3-4 years."

This is Joseph's first summer as Anderson's coach, but the running back agreed with his coach's observation. "I'm definitely in the best shape I've been in in a long time, so I'm excited about that," Anderson said. Coming off a torn meniscus that ended his season in Week 7 last year, Anderson changed his training regimen in an effort to stay healthy. Jobs are up for grabs in Denver's backfield, with Jamaal Charles, Devontae Booker, and rookie De'Angelo Henderson as names to watch.

Raiders released G/T Austin Howard.

This locks in Marshall Newhouse as the Raiders' starting right tackle, making him easily the weakest link on this elite line. Howard, 30, made it through three years of a five-year, $30 million deal and started 39-of-40 games he appeared in for the Silver and Black. He's recovering from offseason shoulder surgery but should be at or near 100 percent. Expect OL-needy teams to give him a call.

Ravens signed QB David Olson.

You're forgiven if you've never heard of Olson, a "Champions Indoor Football" product. This could be a prank and we would be none the wiser. Now 25, "Olson" rode the pine behind Andrew Luck at Stanford before transferring to Clemson, where he attempted three passes as a senior in 2014. Per NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, Olson's college coach Jim Harbaugh vouched for him to brother John Harbaugh. Another Jim Harbaugh player, Colin Kaepernick, remains a free agent. Olson is a camp arm who will be cut once Joe Flacco (back) gets healthy.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expects a decision "imminently" in the league's Ezekiel Elliott investigation.

"Of course, I don’t know what that will be and wouldn’t want to have conjecture in any way involving that," Jones added. "There’s no domestic violence involved here." Rumors about a potentially lengthy suspension have been running rampant, but the reality is, most of the parties involved seem in the dark. Fantasy owners can only sit tight and wait.

The Chargers are "cautiously optimistic" first-round WR Mike Williams can avoid surgery on his troublesome back.

"He's been responding well," GM Tom Telesco said Thursday. "The path, right now, is rehab and strengthening. That's good news, obviously." Williams has "responded positively" to a second epidural. Even with the good news, Williams remains without a timeline for a return. He's highly questionable for Week 1, and perhaps still the entire season.

Browns coach Hue Jackson said second-round QB DeShone Kizer is progressing faster than expected.

"He's understanding the offense," Jackson said. Reporter Mary Kay Cabot believes that if Kizer "continues at this clip," he will "soon be taking most of the first-team reps." Cabot still considers Cody Kessler a slight favorite for No. 1 duties. The Browns seem open to Kizer winning the starting job if he shows them the things they need to see this summer.

ESPN's David Newton reports the Panthers are peppering Christian McCaffrey with "short passes and screens" in practice.

After observing on Thursday, Newton reports it's "obvious" the Panthers have "big plans" for their first-round pick. Per Newton, McCaffrey is "so fast on his cuts that it leaves (defenders) grasping for air." McCaffrey is an exceptional runner, but it's become clear the Panthers view the passing game as the best way for him to make a rookie impact. It will be a big change for an offense that hasn't been big on screens or running back targets under Cam Newton.

Sammy Watkins (foot) has avoided the PUP list to begin training camp, and will practice on Thursday.

The Bills will "manage" Watkins' reps, but coach Sean McDermott is "pleased" with his star wideout's condition. Watkins will be brought along gently through the preseason, but barring a setback, will be ready for the opener.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports suspended Steelers WR Martavis Bryant hopes to finalize his reinstatement "soon."

We're sure he does. Final reinstatement from suspension can be an arduous, tedious process in the NFL. Anything before mid-August should be considered good news. We've yet to see anything to suggest Bryant won't be back by Week 1.
