Lions coach Jim Schwartz suggested that Matthew Stafford's left hand injury will not require an extended absence.

"He got his hand banged. We’ll see. I think he’s okay," Schwartz said at halftime. Stafford's injury is to his non-throwing hand and won't be a major concern. X-rays came back negative following Saturday's preseason game, confirming no fracture. Lions.com writer Tim Twentyman believes Stafford would have played though the injury had it been the regular season.

49ers traded up to select Utah RB Joe Williams with the No. 121 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Williams (5’11/210) committed to UConn out of high school only to get kicked off the team for credit card theft, spend two years at "ASA College" in Brooklyn, and finish up at Utah for his junior and senior years. Williams temporarily retired last September, but returned in October and posted a sparkling 210-1,407-10 (6.7 YPC) rushing line. After bouncing around colleges, Williams will be a 24-year-old rookie. He also caught only 20 passes in 19 games at Utah, dropping 5-of-27 catchable targets and fumbling seven times. Williams’ calling card is his straight-line speed (4.41). In San Francisco, first-year coach Kyle Shanahan may envision Williams as his new version of Tevin Coleman.

Bengals selected Auburn DE Carl Lawson with the No. 116 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Lawson (6’2/261) turned pro as a redshirt junior after making 20 starts for the Tigers, tallying 14 sacks with 24 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles. Lawson rebounded from an injury-plagued start to his career to earn first-team All-SEC from the conference’s coaches in 2016. Lawson showed above-average athleticism in Indy, testing with 65th-percentile SPARQ and 4.67 speed. On tape, Lawson demonstrates a diverse pass-rush repertoire with an outside rip, power, speed, and spins. He also popped an inside rusher. Lawson has all the tools to develop into a high-end No. 2 pass rusher or low-end No. 1 with first-year-impact potential. It's believed Lawson slipped much further than expected in the draft due to concerns about his shoulders.

Redskins selected Oklahoma RB Samaje Perine with the No. 114 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Perine (5’11/233) made 30 starts in three years at OU, operating as the Thunder to Joe Mixon’s Lightning and leaving college with a career 685-4,122-49 (6.0 YPC) rushing line and 40-321-2 (8.0) receiving. Perine broke Billy Sims’ all-time rushing record at Oklahoma. A powerful tackle breaker, Perine’s athleticism was unsurprisingly sub-par at the Combine with 4.65 speed and 25th-percentile SPARQ results. Perine looks like a plodder at times on tape, but his skill set translates well to a short-yardage and clock-killing role, and his receiving ability is better than advertised. His addition likely spells the end of Matt Jones' time in Washington.

49ers acquired RB Kapri Bibbs and a fifth-round pick from the Broncos for a fourth-round pick in 2018.

Bibbs tallied 129 yards on 29 carries last year while filling a change-of-pace role behind C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker. In San Francisco, he'll serve as backfield depth behind injury-prone starter Carlos Hyde.

Jaguars selected Oklahoma WR Dede Westbrook with the No. 110 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Westbrook (6’0/178) spent two years at OU after transferring from JUCO, stacking a 126-2,267-21 (18.0 YPR) career receiving line and finishing as a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2016. He dabbled on kickoff and punt returns as a senior, bringing back a punt 71 yards to the house. Westbrook blazed 4.39 at the Sooners’ Pro Day, but the rest of his workout underwhelmed. NFL scouts expressed concern about Westbrook’s interviews, commitment, and pre-draft preparation at the Combine. Westbrook’s tape reveals a dynamic weapon with terrific hands, dropping just 4-of-84 catchable targets in 2016. Whether Westbrook realizes his immense promise is entirely up to him.

Packers selected Wisconsin OLB Vince Biegel with the No. 108 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Biegel (6’3/246) made 40 starts on the Badgers’ defense, finishing seventh in school history in sacks (21.5) and tenth in tackles for loss (39.5), adding three forced fumbles. He was voted second-team All-Big Ten by the conference’s coaches as a senior. Biegel tested as a 55th-percentile athlete with 4.67 speed. Turning 24 in July, Biegel is an over-aged prospect, undersized by NFL edge-player standards, and got overpowered too frequently in college. An overachieving son of a coach, Biegel projects as a special teamer whose long-term ceiling is likely in the Erik Walden range.

In an anonymous survey of all 32 teams before the draft, just four said they would consider drafting Joe Mixon.

Yet, as ESPN's Adam Schefter noted, "it only takes one." Despite trading back in round two, the questionable-character-tolerant Bengals still got their guy at No. 48. It was never a secret that Cincinnati wanted Mixon before the draft. Mixon now becomes the Bengals' best running back by a significant margin. He should have an opportunity to assert himself as Cincinnati's every-down back.

Patriots exercised WR Brandin Cooks' fifth-year team option for 2018.

The move is an absolute no-brainer after New England traded a first-round pick and some change to land Cooks in March. The receiver is now under contract for the next two years, but the Patriots could look to sign him to an extension next offseason. Patriots owner Bob Kraft compared Cooks' potential impact to that of Randy Moss, so it is safe to say the organization is high on him.

Bucs GM Jason Licht said he is "happy with" Doug Martin's (suspended) "trajectory" this offseason.

"I’ve said that before but it’s the truth," Licht continued. "He has the right mindset right now and he looks good physically." NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Martin has been "the most impressive player thus far" in the Bucs' offseason program, and Tampa Bay has bypassed the running back position to this point in the draft. That does not mean they will avoid the position entirely on Day 3, but it is looking more and more likely Martin will remain in Tampa Bay this season. Martin will serve the final three games of his suspension Weeks 1-3.

TMZ Sports reports Cowboys suspended DE Randy Gregory failed another drug test.

Gregory is currently serving a suspension of at least one year for a previous failed test. TMZ Sports reports Gregory has "blown off" NFL officials since being notified of the failed test in March, and "people connected to Gregory" believe his NFL career might be over. If he did actually fail another test, his friends are likely correct. A second-round pick in 2015, Gregory has played in just 14 games in two seasons including just two last year because of injury and suspension.

The Buffalo News' Vic Carucci reports the Bills are "unlikely" to pick up Sammy Watkins' fifth-year option.

Reports of the Bills waffling on the decision have been circulating for a couple weeks, but it never seemed like a real choice considering Watkins' talent, how much Buffalo paid to get him, and their lack of options at receiver. Clearly, that assumption was incorrect. According to Carucci, the Bills "aren't comfortable" using the option while Watkins is still recovering from foot surgery. The deadline for a final decision is May 3. Buffalo added WR Zay Jones in the second round Friday night, but they need receiver help regardless of Watkins' health and contract situation.
