CBS Sports' Jason LaCanfora reports Lions GM Martin Mayhew has been calling other teams in search of a running back.

This report suggests not only that the organization is aiming higher than free agent Ryan Grant, but also that Kevin Smith's ankle injury could end up leaving his status up in the air for the season opener. Smith missed practice again on Tuesday. Saints power back Chris Ivory makes a lot of sense; he's fourth on the depth chart, and undrafted rookie Travaris Cadet has impressed in preseason action.

Saints coach Sean Payton said he expects Alvin Kamara (concussion) to play Week 15 against the Jets.

Kamara expects the same after getting in a full practice Wednesday, saying he is "good to go." The Saints have ridden the running game hard during their wins this season, and they are 16-point home favorites over the Jets. That means both Kamara and Mark Ingram should get more than their fair share of touches. Both are top-five fantasy options.

Speaking on ESPN's SC6, Robert Griffin III said he has not "given up on" finding a team this season.

"I love football. I miss the game," Griffin said. "There are some teams that need help and may need help going into the playoffs." The former No. 2 overall pick added he had offers from the Cardinals and Ravens in the offseason, but he turned them down because they were not the "right fit." It seems unlikely he gets a shot before the end of the season, but it sounds like he will be actively seeking a job in the spring.

Jets coach Todd Bowles said Christian Hackenberg will not play this season unless Bryce Petty suffers an injury.

The aftermath of Josh McCown's season-ending injury would seem like the perfect time to get a second-round sophomore who has yet to play a single snap in the regular season some work, but the coach sees it differently. "We got people at every position that want to play," Bowles said. "We’re not jumping people over people just to play considering anything. Bryce is our starter." With the Saints, Chargers, and Patriots left on the schedule, Petty is going to struggle, opening up the possibility if not likelihood Hackenberg gets a shot over the next three games. Still, not playing him now says everything about his future.

Updating an earlier report, Tyrod Taylor (knee) is practicing in full for Week 15 against the Dolphins.

He'll be back under center after sitting out Sunday's game with a bruised patellar tendon. Taylor's fantasy results have been all over the map this year but his scrambling ability (he ranks third among quarterbacks with 334 rushing yards) keeps him in the streaming conversation this week.
Dec 13 - 6:28 PM

Robert Woods (shoulder) expects to play in Week 15 against Seattle.

Coach Sean McVay also expects Woods back this week. Woods was close to playing last Sunday and should be available for his normal snaps. Woods' return is a downgrade to Cooper Kupp's outlook.
Dec 13 - 6:20 PM

Marcus Mariota (knee) is practicing in full for Week 15 against the 49ers.

He suffered a minor knee injury in Sunday's loss to Arizona but didn't miss a snap and saw his usual reps when the Titans returned to practice on Wednesday. Mariota has thrown eight interceptions over his last four games and won't be more than a QB2 for the fantasy semifinals, even in a great matchup.
Dec 13 - 5:30 PM

Alvin Kamara (concussion) said he's "good to go" for Week 15 against the Jets.

Kamara was concussed early in Thursday night's loss to Atlanta but returned to a full practice on Wednesday and should be ready to roll Sunday against the Jets. The steal of the 2017 draft, Kamara has scored 11 touchdowns this year and leads all running backs in receiving yards with 639. Consider him an RB1 for the fantasy semifinals.

Giants owner John Mara wants Eli Manning to return in 2018.

Manning was shaping up as a lock to be released, but his status has changed with Ben McAdoo gone. Even with New York in position for a top-five pick, it's possible they give Manning another year with an improved supporting cast. There should be more clarity with the Giants expected to interview general manager candidates next week. Manning has two years and $22 million guaranteed remaining on his deal.

Coach Bruce Arians said he has "no idea" if Adrian Peterson (neck) will play again this season.

That's not very encouraging news. Peterson has missed the past two games and again missed practice Wednesday. The Cardinals are out of it, and there's a real chance we saw the last of Peterson playing in the NFL if he doesn't suit up the rest of this season. Peterson turns 33 in March, and there wasn't a hot market for his services last offseason. Kerwynn Williams and D.J. Foster will continue to fill in as the Cardinals' running backs in Peterson's absence.
Dec 13 - 3:40 PM

Giovani Bernard (knee) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

It's a new issue for Bernard after he played a season-high in snaps and turned 17 touches into 130 yards. Perhaps it's more of a maintenance day after the big workload. Joe Mixon (concussion) remains in the protocol.
Dec 13 - 3:24 PM

Amari Cooper (ankle) is not practicing Wednesday.

Cooper played 14 snaps last week against the Chiefs before aggravating his ankle issue. The Raiders were aggressive to play him through the high-ankle sprain. Cooper is unlikely to be a factor the rest of the fantasy season.
