Peyton Hillis (ankle) remained out of Chiefs practice Wednesday.

Hillis was listed as doubtful before sitting out Sunday's loss, and there's been nothing to suggest he'll be ready to return for Week 5. We expect Shaun Draughn to back-up Jamaal Charles against the Ravens. Increasingly plodding and prone to injury, Hillis is an extremely low-upside own in fantasy leagues.

Free agent Johnny Manziel says he achieved sobriety without professional assistance.

This will increase skepticism regarding Manziel's comeback attempt, which he announced this week after admitting he was "lost in the sauce" during his 2016 drug and alcohol binge. Manziel is only 24 days older than Carson Wentz.

Julio Jones (toe) returned to a full practice on Friday.

Coach Dan Quinn said he looked good at Friday's session and won't have any limitations in Sunday's NFC Championship Game versus Green Bay. That's good to hear after Jones played just 58.3 percent of the team's offensive snaps in last week's win over Seattle. Jones had a tough time when he faced the Packers in Week 8, securing just three-of-five targets for 29 yards in the Falcons' one-point victory.

Ladarius Green (concussion, illness) returned to practice on Friday.

Green didn't work with the first team and remains in the league's concussion protocol. He'll make the trip to Foxboro this weekend but it's anyone's guess if he'll be out there against the Patriots. Green hasn't seen the field since Week 15. Jesse James would draw another start at tight end if Green misses Sunday's AFC title game.

Coach Mike McCarthy said all three of Jordy Nelson (ribs), Davante Adams (ankle), and Geronimo Allison (hamstring) could be game-time decisions for the NFC Championship game.

Nelson sat out practice on Friday due to an illness, but McCarthy said he did more than expected at practice on Thursday and has a chance to play. Adams twisted his ankle in the Divisional Round, while Allison came down with a pulled hammy. At least one or two of them will have to play Sunday.

Ravens ILB Zachary Orr is retiring from the NFL after three seasons.

Just yesterday, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported the Ravens had made "considerable progress" on a contract extension with Orr, as the former UDFA's deal was set to expire. The 24-year-old started 15 games last season, before missing Week 17 with a herniated disc in his neck. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the injury is why Orr is walking away. The Ravens tried to "talk him out of it" but were apparently unsuccessful.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports the Browns have made "significant progress" in contract talks with impending free agent Jamie Collins, and are expected to finalize a deal by the weekend.

GM Sashi Brown is on record as hoping to keep Collins without the franchise tag. Collins' play was listless following his acquisition from the Patriots, but that's not surprising for a player going from the top of the league to the bottom. Still only 27, Collins is a versatile playmaker, and has been durable. He would be a nice building block for a team in the middle of a total reset.

The Washington Post reports the Redskins interviewed ex-Chargers DC John Pagano for their defensive coordinator vacancy.

A Chargers assistant since 2002, Pagano coordinated the defense from 2012-16. His 2016 unit was good, if not necessarily great. The secondary played well and Joey Bosa reinvigorated the front seven. At the very least, Pagano would be an upgrade on Joe Barry.

The Sacramento Bee reports the 49ers were interested in bringing Bears DC Vic Fangio back to San Francisco for the same position, but that the Bears blocked the move.

In other words, coach-in-waiting Kyle Shanahan reached out to Fangio, but was rebuffed by Fangio's current boss, John Fox. With the 49ers yet to even hire a general manager, it's an indication Shanahan will have wide latitude if/when he gets the job. Fangio did an excellent 2016 job with an undermanned unit.

Bills hired Rick Dennison as offensive coordinator.

Dennison was the Broncos' coordinator the past two seasons, but wasn't retained following Gary Kubiak's resignation. Dennison also coordinated the Texans' offense under Kubiak from 2010-13. It's a decent, if unimaginative, hire for a Bills team that isn't setting the world ablaze with its new coaching staff. Dennison's addition doesn't really speak to Tyrod Taylor's future one way or the other, though he was Taylor's QBs coach for the Ravens in 2014 when Taylor was still a backup. Like Kubiak, Dennison is a run-first, play-action oriented play-caller.

Davante Adams (ankle) won't guarantee his status for the NFC Championship Game.

Adams says the issue isn't as debilitating as his 2015 ankle injury, but that he won't know his status until the weekend. Adams is expected to test his ankle on Saturday. He's yet to practice, and will be held out on Friday, as well. If Adams suits up against the Falcons, he'll almost certainly be on a snap count. With Jordy Nelson (ribs) and Geronimo Allison (hamstring) also banged up, the Packers are going to need contributions from Randall Cobb, Trevor Davis and Jeff Janis.
Jan 19 - 5:51 PM

Jordy Nelson (ribs) participated without pads in Thursday's practice.

It means he hasn't been cleared for contact. He remained "limited" on the injury report, which has him ahead of Davante Adams (ankle) and Geronimo Allison (hamstring). Coach Mike McCarthy indicated Thursday that both Adams and Allison will likely suit up against the Falcons. Nelson's status isn't clear, but he's certainly giving himself a shot to be active for the biggest game of the season. If Nelson does play, he obviously won't be in for his usual complement of snaps. The Pack could have to lean on Trevor Davis and Jeff Janis.
