Vikings coach Leslie Frazier confirmed Friday that he expects Adrian Peterson (ankle, probable) to play Sunday against Washington.

As expected. Peterson practiced without limitations on Friday, and Frazier said he's "much better" in terms of health. "He feels very comfortable," Frazier said. "Did good in and out of his cuts. I think he's ready to go." Despite a fluke four-game stretch without a touchdown, Peterson is locked in as an RB1 for the Week 6 matchup with Washington.

Vikings signed CB Terence Newman, formerly of the Bengals, to a one-year, $2.5 million deal.

Coming off a solid three-year stint with the Bengals, Newman is reuniting with coach Mike Zimmer, whom he played for in both Dallas and Cincy. The No. 5 overall pick of the 2003 draft, Newman has remained durable and effective, but his play did slip a little in 2014. He also missed three games with a knee issue, and briefly considered retirement. He'll likely enter the season as an outside starter opposite Xavier Rhodes, but might be best limited to the 400-500 snap range. The Vikings remain likely to address cornerback in the draft.
Mar 26 - 7:23 PM's Ian Rapoport calls the Falcons a team to "keep an eye on" for Nebraska DE/OLB Randy Gregory.

Per Rapsheet, the Falcons are "open to edgier players" under new assistant GM Scott Pioli. GM Thomas Dimitroff famously tried to build a roster of choir boys, but his personnel role has been revoked. Pioli will be calling the shots on draft weekend. The Falcons know they have to take chances as they try to restock one of the league's most talent-barren rosters. Gregory failed a drug test at February's Combine, but has No. 1 overall type of talent.

49ers waived OT Jonathan Martin.

The "Bullygate" victim lasted only one season in San Francisco. Reunited with his college coach Jim Harbaugh, Martin played 661 snaps across 15 appearances (nine starts), but was among the least-effective tackles in the league. With his mentor in Harbaugh now gone, the 49ers apparently didn't see the point in keeping Martin around. Martin is still only 26 (in August), but has never been an effective NFLer.
Mar 26 - 4:38 PM's Ian Rapoport reports the Colts are not expected to extend contract-year coach Chuck Pagano before the start of the season.

It's an interesting decision from Indy. Although we've often disapproved of Pagano's maneuverings, he's improved every year. He's adjusted (slowly) on offense, and had an overachieving defense two years running. The Colts have made the playoffs each of Pagano's three seasons at the helm, winning a game in two of them. It's yet another signal that owner Jim Irsay considers 2015 a Super Bowl-or-bust campaign. Pagano's first order of business is to stop getting blown out by Bill Belichick's Patriots.

CBS' Jason La Canfora gets the "strong sense" Oregon QB Marcus Mariota is "not getting past the second overall pick."

La Canfora spent the last few days around team executives at the annual spring meeting. "He's going second overall," said one GM who is paying attention to the Mariota market. "I don't know to which team, but he's going second overall." The Titans hold the No. 2 selection and have so many holes on a league-worst roster that a trade down makes sense. If they can't get the haul they want, staying put and installing Mariota ahead of Zach Mettenberger isn't a bad idea either. Meanwhile, the assumption continues that Tampa Bay will take Jameis Winston with the top pick.

Nebraska DE/OLB Randy Gregory admitted to that he failed a drug test at February's Combine.

He tested positive for marijuana. "I blame myself," Gregory said. Even before learning of the flunked test, two executives told that Gregory had concerning "off-the-field issues." Gregory claims he used to smoke marijuana to deal with anxiety, but has moved past it. "I don't wake up every day saying, I'd really love to go smoke," he said. "It's not a struggle for me every day (now), it really isn't. In the past, hell yeah, it's been a struggle. It really has been. Now, I'm focused on my dream." Gregory says he last smoked marijuana in December.

Speaking at the Owners' Meetings in Arizona, commissioner Roger Goodell said the league has "postponed" the expanded playoffs idea.

The idea will continue to be evaluated over the next year, but Goodell stressed scheduling issues and the importance of the regular seasons as factors. Also, the NFL sounds ready to change the extra point for the upcoming season. Mostly all owners are in favor of making the PAT more of a "football play." It's tentatively expected to be voted on at the next league meeting in May.

Coach Tom Coughlin suggested Victor Cruz (patellar tendon) could miss the start of the season.

Coughlin said the "goal" is for Cruz to be ready Week 1, but "if it doesn't happen, we just went through that" with Odell Beckham last year. (Beckham didn't play until October.) Patellar tendon tears require extremely long rehabs and are tougher to come back from than ACL injuries. With the Giants stocked at receiver with OBJ, Rueben Randle, Corey Washington, and Dwayne Harris, they could take it slow with Cruz. There's a chance he could begin the season on reserve/PUP.

Jordy Nelson is recovering from offseason hip surgery.

It was merely a cleanup operation and Nelson should be fine in 6-8 weeks, according to coach Mike McCarthy. If Nelson was hurt last season, he sure didn't play like it. He reeled in a team-record 1,519 receiving yards en route to his first All-Pro selection. We're not particularly worried about Nelson's re-draft stock. At the same time, now might be an opportunity to sell high on Nelson in Dynasty as he approaches his 30th birthday.

Coach Sean Payton said third-year TE Josh Hill is a player "we value a lot."

Speaking Wednesday, Payton talked up both Hill and veteran TE Ben Watson as players whose roles are going to expand with Jimmy Graham out of the picture. Hill's ADP is skyrocketing by the day, as he's proven to be a touchdown-scorer in very limited opportunities during his first two seasons. He has TE1 upside, but is also a candidate to be overdrafted by the end of summer.

Coach Mike Zimmer said the Vikings "have no plans" to trade Adrian Peterson.

"We fully expect him to be here," Zimmer continued. "It's no different." It's the same tune the Vikings decision makers have been singing all offseason. The reality for Peterson is that the Vikings hold all of the cards. None of his salary is due until Week 1 and they have the cap room to carry him.
