Appearing on Sports Center, ESPN's Ed Werder said he's been told it's "doubtful" that DeMarco Murray (foot) will play versus the Giants in Week 8.

Werder is the one national writer with the most access to Cowboys sources, so he's a trustworthy voice. The results of Murray's Monday tests have yet to be revealed, but it seems the ligament damage still needs time to heal. "Fragile" Felix Jones suffered a bruised knee last week, though we've yet to see concern that the injury will keep him out versus the Giants. Phillip Tanner would be the next man up if Jones does miss time.

Updating an earlier report, ESPN analyst Louis Riddick has not been contacted by the Chiefs.

The news comes from Riddick himself. "The Kansas City Chiefs have not contacted me and there is no interview set up for this week. Source? Me," he tweeted. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported earlier that the Chiefs were looking to interview Riddick for their GM opening, but apparently that isn't the case. The Chiefs are searching for a GM to replace John Dorsey, who was fired last week.

According to Mike Klis of 9News Denver, Paxton Lynch "made his move" on Trevor Siemian during the final two weeks of OTAs.

Klis noticed a turning point in Lynch over the final two weeks as his "switch was flipped." Specifically, Klis found Lynch to be less tentative, no longer worrying about protections, hot reads and coverages. "He started to get it," said Klis. "He started to play as if he was doing just that—playing." Lynch didn't show much as a rookie but appears to be making great strides as a sophomore. If Lynch continues to progress during training camp, there's a real chance of him wrangling the starting job away from Siemian.

According to Archie Manning, Dolphins coach Adam Gase sent a text to Peyton Manning to gauge his interest in a comeback to football late last season.

The message was sent directly after Ryan Tannehill partially tore his ACL in Week 14 last season. The text said, "Hey 18, Tannehill went down. I think he's going to miss some time. The first question I'm going to get at the press conference in the morning is if I'm going to bring you to Miami. What do you want me to tell them?" The first question at the press conference was definitely not going to be asking if Peyton Manning would come out of retirement. This was just a sneaky way to gauge Manning's interest in a return. Manning responded, "You tell them I could probably come play, but there's no way I can miss carpool the next two weeks."

Lions S Tavon Wilson is being sued for allegedly punching his ex-girlfriend in the face.

The alleged assault took place at a nightclub in May 2016, but Wilson completely denies he is the attacker. Wilson's lawyer says, "There's video of the incident that shows Ms. Leach [Wilson's current girlfriend] is attacked. Mr. Wilson is a witness, Ms. Leach is the victim, and Ms. Jackson [Wilson's ex-girlfriend] is the defendant... Her civil claim is meritless." A police report was filed at the time of the incident, but it was Ms. Jackson who was arrested, and not Wilson or Ms. Leach.

Coach Jay Gruden gushed about Jamison Crowder, saying "he's an excellent, dynamic player and continues to prove every day why we like him so much."

"He can run just about anything you ask him to run," Gruden said. "He gets himself open because he’s got a great feel. He’s got quickness in and out of his breaks. He plays a lot longer than his size. He has got really long arms. He goes up and gets balls. Sometime he plays bigger than a taller receiver because he uses his height [and] he’s got great jumping ability." This isn't the first time Gruden has talked up Crowder this offseason. Crowder is fully expected to be an every-down player in two- and three-wide sets and has a legitimate chance to challenge the league lead in catches this season.

NJ Advance Media's Connor Hughes expects Matt Forte to be the Jets' "offensive workhorse" this season.

Color us skeptical. Most talk around the team this offseason has been hinting at a changing of the guard at running back for the rebuilding Jets, with Bilal Powell becoming the 1A as Forte takes a back seat as the 1B. Hughes doesn't believe that to be the case and expects Powell to be the "complement" to Forte. Nothing is settled in this backfield. It's a situation to monitor closely this summer.

Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports ex-Chiefs GM John Dorsey was "butting heads" with owner Clark Hunt.

Per Cole, that's what Dorsey "told a source within the past two months." No reason was given, but USA Today reported earlier Thursday the team believed Dorsey botched long-term negotiations with Justin Houston and Eric Berry. Dorsey has been an excellent drafter, though coach Andy Reid is an influence in every department of Chiefs personnel. A pair of Reid loyalists are amongst the in-house candidates expected to interview to replace Dorsey.

Jets owner Woody Johnson's brother Christopher is expected to take over the day-to-day operations of the team if Woody is confirmed as Ambassador of the United States to the Court of St James's.

In the words of the team, Christopher will "directly oversee all day-to-day team operations." Things are a little acrimonious in the United States Senate right now — in case you hadn't heard — but Johnson will almost certainly be confirmed as ambassador. In theory, he should have the job until at least 2021, but ambassadors don't always remain the entire term. Former Steelers owner Dan Rooney spent only three years as Barack Obama's ambassador to Ireland. Johnson's absence should have little-to-zero effect on the team.

Jets owner Woody Johnson has been officially nominated to be the United States' ambassador to the United Kingdom.

The move had been rumored since January. It had been delayed for reasons unknown by president Donald Trump. It isn't uncharted territory for a 21st century NFL owner, as Johnson will join the late, great Dan Rooney as a United States ambassador. Rooney was Barack Obama's ambassador to Ireland from 2009-12. It's unclear how the appointment will affect Johnson's football duties. Rooney remained involved with the Steelers during his time in Ireland. Ambassador of the United States to the Court of St James's is an important position. It's unclear what makes Johnson qualified.

Profootballtalk reports the Chiefs have a "loose goal" of replacing ex-GM John Dorsey by training camp.

Per Mike Florio, Dorsey's replacement will report directly to owner Clark Hunt, as Dorsey supposedly did. "Supposedly" because it's unmistakable who calls the shots on the football side in Kansas City: Coach Andy Reid. ESPN reports in-house candidates to replace Dorsey are co-director of player personnel Brett Veach and pro personnel scout Mike Borgonzi.

Chiefs fired GM John Dorsey.

It's a stunning, baffling move. Like coach Andy Reid, Dorsey was heading into the final year of his contract. Owner Clark Hunt informed Dorsey he would not be receiving an extension, essentially firing him by way of forcing him out. Dorsey was hired to do Reid's bidding. There had been no indications of friction. Reid's already mammoth power in Kansas City now increases. It's hard to know how much of Reid's credit Dorsey deserved, but on the surface, he did an absolutely fantastic job during his four years with the Chiefs. It is worth noting the Chiefs are in salary cap shambles. Dorsey won't be on the open market for long. A Ted Thompson acolyte, Dorsey has been mentioned as a possible successor for Thompson in Green Bay.
