Chiefs promoted S Neiko Thorpe from their practice squad.

Thorpe played both safety and cornerback at Auburn and will likely play special teams in Kansas City. He ran a 4.4 at the Tigers' Pro Day, with an 11-foot-5 broad jump.

Adrian Peterson said he is "in no rush" to find a new team.

That is convenient because NFL teams are in no rush to sign him. In a statement which must be true considering the number of all-caps words and exclamation points, Peterson shot down reports he is looking for $8 million in the first year of his new deal before adding "finding the best fit" and helping a team "win a championship" are his main objectives. Peterson has received almost zero interest since becoming a free agent.

According to ESPN's Jeff Darlington, Tony Romo believes his options for 2017 are retiring or playing for the Texans.

Darlington said the Broncos haven't "closed the door" on Romo but aren't actively pursuing him. Romo ending up in Houston seemed like a forgone conclusion when the Texans traded Brock Osweiler to Cleveland, but no progress has been made. With Romo still stranded in Dallas, it's possible he could leave to pursue a career in broadcasting. Romo has been offered gigs with Fox Sports and CBS. All we know for sure is that Romo is done in Dallas.

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan wouldn't commit to Josh McCown as the team's starting quarterback.

Maccagnan said that decision will be made by coach Todd Bowles. He added that it's "highly unlikely" the Jets will add another quarterback in free agency but acknowledged that drafting one is a possibility. McCown is still the odds-on favorite to start but it's a near certainty that his body will break down at some point. That would open the door for Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg to make starts later in the year.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports free agent Adrian Peterson is looking for $8 million in the first year of his new contract.

He can keep dreaming. That would make Peterson the third highest-paid running back in the league behind Le'Veon Bell and LeSean McCoy. Previous reports have suggested teams are reluctant to pay Peterson even $5 million annually, making his $8 million asking price downright laughable. Aging, fragile and fumble-prone, Peterson's stock has never been lower.

The Panthers will exercise WR Kelvin Benjamin's fifth-year team option for 2018.

It's a no-brainer. While Benjamin tore his ACL in 2015 and had a down 2016, he's still a big talent in a wide receiver corps that otherwise lacks it. Benjamin turned 26 in February and is under team control through his age-27 year. He should benefit from a healthy offseason and needs Cam Newton to bounce back to his MVP level of play. Benjamin is a fantasy WR3 with big upside.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports the Packers "mulled" a visit with free agent Adrian Peterson but ultimately decided against it.

According to Fowler, Peterson's asking price is believed to be too high. One of the best running backs in the history of the league, Peterson doesn't seem to realize he's a 32-year-old running back in an NFL that is devaluing the position. He's not going to get top-end money. Peterson will likely have to settle for something around $5-6 million or he's going to be without a team.

Colts released DT Arthur Jones.

This move has been in the works seemingly forever. Signed to a "five-year, $33 million" deal in 2014, Jones appeared in just 17-of-48 games as a Colt. Chalk it up as another big whiff by ex-GM Ryan Grigson. New GM Chris Ballard is trimming the fat. Coming off a groin injury, Jones turns 31 later this year and was suspended four games in 2016 for PEDs. It's unclear how much Jones has left in the tank. The Colts save $5.15 million with the move.

Redskins signed WR Brian Quick, formerly of the Rams, to a one-year contract.

The Rams reached for Quick at No. 33 overall in the 2012 draft, and it took him years to figure out the pro game coming out of small-school Appalachian State. Rams staffers were comparing him to Vincent Jackson and Terrell Owens coming out of college. Obviously, those comps never materialized, but Quick has good size at 6'3/218 and has a strong 14.3 career YPR average. Quick figures to slide in as the No. 4 receiver as long as Josh Doctson is healthy.

Panthers signed RB Jonathan Stewart to a one-year extension through 2018.

Stewart turned 30 earlier this week. There was some belief that the Panthers could release Stewart this offseason, saving $6.25 million as a post-June 1 cut, but GM Dave Gettleman apparently thinks there's more in the tank. Stewart averaged a career-low 3.8 YPC (minimum 100 carries) last season, though he did score a seven-year-high nine touchdowns, seeing more goal-line work with the Panthers trying to limit Cam Newton's rushing opportunities. Gettleman has already said he'll draft a running back this year. Leonard Fournette at No. 8 could still be in play.

Packers signed DL Ricky Jean-Francois to a one-year, $3 million contract.

Jean-Francois slides right in as a proven run stopper for a defense that started out hot on the ground last season, but faded as the year wore on. Headed into his age-31 season, Jean-Francois hasn't missed a game since 2013. He will be a valuable role player in Green Bay.
Mar 23 - 4:38 PM

Jets signed WR Quinton Patton, formerly of the 49ers.

Coming off a career high 37 catches for 408 yards, Patton is reuniting with WRs coach John Morton, who coached Patton the first two years of his career under Jim Harbaugh. Not an explosive athlete, Patton makes his name with competence and sure hands. He'll fight for No. 3 or 4 duties in New York.
