Falcons signed WR Tim Toone and TE Chase Coffman.

Signed on the eve of camp, Toone was waived/injured at final cuts. A former third-round pick, Coffman hasn't appeared in a game since 2010. If either player is active this Sunday, it will be to contribute on special teams.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Georgia RB Todd Gurley's medically-repaired knee "checked out fine" at the NFL Combine medical rechecks.

Gurley declined to have his knee examined at the Combine, but he passed through the recheck process with no issues. There have been reports Gurley will begin the season on the PUP list, but Rapoport added the "hope" is Gurley will be ready for training camp. He will only be eight months removed from the injury when camps begin, so it may be nothing more than "hope" he will be ready by then. Either way, Gurley looks to be on the right track in his recovery and is a great bet to come off the board on Day 1.

49ers GM Trent Baalke revealed that Carlos Hyde has dropped his weight into the "mid-220s."

Baalke added that Hyde looks "extremely good." Hyde measured 6-foot, 230 at the 2014 Combine. Weight loss has had positive recent effects on Le'Veon Bell, Eddie Lacy, LeSean McCoy (pre-2014), and Marshawn Lynch early in his Seattle career. If the 49ers decline to draft a running back who poses significant competition to Hyde, he'll only have Reggie Bush and Kendall Hunter to beat out for touches. Hyde has high-end RB2 upside for 2015.

The Dallas PD has suspended its aggravated assault case against Broncos CB Aqib Talib.

Talib was being investigated for assault after an incident on April 8. After talking to witnesses, the Dallas PD said it doesn't have enough evidence to proceed at this time. This story should fade away. Talib can move on with his life.

An NFL general manager told Bleacher Report's Mike Freeman that he believes the Raiders are "right there" in the mix to trade for Adrian Peterson.

ESPN Raiders reporter Bill Williamson adds that he "keeps hearing" Oakland connected to Peterson. GM Reggie McKenzie has been trying to add star power and Peterson certainly fits the bill. The Raiders are one team with the cap space to take on A.D.'s $12.75 million cap hit. It's definitely concerning for Latavius Murray owners that McKenzie has seemed hellbent on adding talent to his backfield, first flirting with DeMarco Murray and now Peterson. The Raiders have ties to Peterson, having hired his old offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave to replace departed OC Greg Olson.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer expects the Browns to make a "strong pitch" for Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.

The Browns haven't worked out Mariota, but that means little this time of year. Teams routinely eschew such visits yet draft the player. The Browns have unique perspective into the draft's No. 2 quarterback, as new QBs coach Kevin O'Connell spent six weeks mentoring Mariota before arriving in Cleveland. This isn't the first report linking Cleveland to Mariota. Owner Jimmy Haslam is consumed by the idea of finding a "franchise quarterback." With the Nos. 12 and 19 picks, the Browns have the ammunition to make a draft-day move.

NFL removed Vikings RB Adrian Peterson from the exempt/commissioner's list.

As a condition of his reinstatement, Peterson must maintain an "ongoing program of counseling and treatment as recommended by medical advisors." The question now becomes where Peterson will be playing in 2015. He appears dead set against returning to the Vikings, but at least so far, they've appeared dead set on keeping him. Due $44.25 million over the next three seasons, Peterson would almost certainly have to restructure his contract as part of any trade.

Antonio Gates indicated he'd like to have his snaps dialed back in 2015.

"With injuries and whatnot, I played a little bit more than they expected me to play last season," Gates said. "I was playing the whole game. I’d like to come in on third-and-7s, red zones, those situations." Gates, 35 in June, played 787 snaps last season and saw the sixth-most targets among tight ends on his way to a 69-821-12 line. He admittedly doesn't have many years left and wants to conserve his time. The Ladarius Green plane may actually get off the ground in 2015.

Jaguars signed MLB Paul Posluszny to a one-year extension through 2017.

He was previously under contract in 2015 and 2016 at base salaries of $7.45 million in each year. Heading into his age-31 season, Posluszny's on-field play has declined sharply in recent years, and he finished 2014 on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle. It's possible the extension was done for salary cap purposes, but the Jags are in excellent financial condition. Either way, Posluszny is locked in as Jacksonville's starting middle linebacker and will be an IDP bounce-back target. He ranked second in the NFL in tackles (162) in 2013.

Fred Jackson acknowledged the Bills intend to utilize LeSean McCoy as a "bellcow," but promises to "not make it easy for him."

"They want him to take the majority of the load," F-Jax conceded. "But I’m not going to make it easy for him. I’m not going to just hand it to him and say, ‘Here’s the job.’" The Bills invested Kiko Alonso and a big contract in Shady, so he'll be given every opportunity to soak up touches. We wouldn't rule out Jackson stealing some passing-down and goal-line work, however. "I’m going to push him," Jackson promised. "Every time I get a chance to touch the ball, I’m going to make every play that I can when I’m out there."

The Jets' one-year deal with Stevan Ridley contains just $80,000 guaranteed and has a total value of $1.25 million.

He got (significantly) less guaranteed money than Darren McFadden ($200,000) and Trent Richardson ($600,000). It's not especially surprising for a two-down running back coming off multiple knee ligament tears, but indicates Ridley isn't a lock for the Jets' 53-man roster. As special teamer Bilal Powell has job security and the Jets are fully expected to draft another back, Ridley and Chris Ivory may end up competing for one spot in training camp.

Indiana RB Tevin Coleman ran "consistent 4.4s" in the forty-yard dash at his Pro Day on Wednesday.

One report had him at 4.35. Coleman has blinding straight-line speed and burst on game tape, so it's not surprising he ran well. Concerns on Coleman are his stiff hips and inability to churn out chain-moving gains. Working in Coleman's favor is big-play ability and pass-protection chops, which should get him on the field early in the NFL. He projects as an early second-round pick.
